Traffic from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is almost always a given, and it can take at least two hours (if you're lucky). The bullet train takes you right from downtown Tel Aviv to downtown Jerusalem in less than half the time, so it's very convenient.

No one said it id high speed train. It's referred to as the fast train as the old line was super slow and with basically a sreight line through a series of tunnels and bridges it is faster than most other options. With such a short segment and a 3% incline there is no point in a real high speed train. In general Israel is a bit small for high speed trains but a 250 kph line between Haifa and Beer Sheva through Tel Aviv is planned. The first section, from Haifa to Tel Aviv is in the pproval stages. There is also an approved high speed 300 kph line to Eilt but it os on hold as it is deamed as not viable (the current estimated cost of about 10B pounds, a bit too much to connect a 50,000 inhabitant city). That said, tue "first stage" is underway (approval stages) but only to improve the slow and bearly used line from Beer Seva to Domona.
Wow, the George Michael Wham! look is back in. Who knew... :P The taxi driver robbed you btw. Road 443?? Road 1 and Road 16 (new tunnel opened since the filming), and you can drive right up to the Western Wall entrance. Would've saved 10s of minutes.
All signs are in Hebrew, English and, usually, Arabic. The departure electronic sign is in Hebrew and the English and Arabic change between them (if you look closely you can se it on the board shots). Station announsments are mostly only in Hebrew but electronic signs are also in English and Arabic inside the train. On many buses and on the light rail both signs and announsments are in all 3 languages.
Great to see you do this race guys, it's no different to your other train v other transport races, pleased you included Israel in your porfolio of destinations for comparisons.
No one said it was. As hecsaid, it is called the fast line as it's almost a straight line going, in the last segment, through the mountains in 20km of tunnels (4 tunnels, the longest one ~12km) and on bridges with a top speed of 160 km/h climbing from about sea level to 800m. The old line, constructed during the ottoman rule (opened in 1892), winded down along the mountes (no tunnels) and the ride took about 80 minutes. A true high speed line is pointless for this rout but therer will be one connecting Haifa, Tel Aviv and Beer Sheva. Another high speed line to Eilat was approved but due to high costs it's on hold.
