Yes please! I would like to see more videos on alterations. I loved this one very much. Thank you.🙏🏻
Thank you Kamla. There's more to come😀
Thank you so much for this video! I am short so am always altering my clothes and this method looks great. I certainly would appreciate seeing more videos with alterations. I need to learn a good way to decrease the width of dress pants and jeans.
Thanks Anita. I have more to come😁
I like the alteration videos too . Good to know when we are trying to save money in these hard economic time .
Thanks Mary. It's certainly a great way to refresh your wardrobe😁
Yes, more alterations please!
Thank you Eva. More coming😁
Great video, as usual! :) I love the stitch-before-you-cut technique that you showed us, Christine! It removes the fear :O of ruining some else's clothing. And yes, I would like to see some more alteration videos. Maybe some showing how you would repair a tear, etc., too (if you do any of that type of work for customers.)
I just repaired some major tearing on pants this week. I should have taken it home. Next time😁
Yes, please! As a 5'1" person who wears a size SP, I'm in constant need of alterations. Your explanations are fantastic - so clear even a beginner catches on right away.
Thank you. I'm glad it's helped😀
I don’t make or alter clothing (yet - never say never) but, “Yes please!” on future tutorials on alterations. You are an amazingly talented sewist and give us the best tutorials! Your processes are logical and doable and you ate my “go to” for many types of bags and gift projects. Your instructions on stabilizing the shirt hem will transfer quite nicely to my current quilting and sewing hobby. So glad you are healing well. Thank you so much for all the great content. You rock! Literally - so where can we find your rock and roll content? I don’t dance - but again, never say never! You teach, I learn.
Thank you so much Elaine. I think lots of the skills we use can transfer to other crafts. A lot of what I learned in quilting, I also use in dressmaking.
Our rock n roll channel is here😁

Beautiful job! I'd love to see more alterations. In particular, it would be interesting to see techniques for letting out a garment. Thanks for the clear explanations and great content!
That's a great idea. I have plenty in my wardrobe that needs letting out quite a bit😁
Thank you so much for this video! I have several shirts I need to shorten for my husband after not sewing for decades. I love the idea of using the stabilizing stitch using the sewing foot as a guide. Extremely helpful information! Now, I'll need to learn how to use my new sewing machine and get these shirts done!
You can do it Karen. One stitch at a time😀
Great video. I'm so happy that I found it. I have a shirt that is too long for me, and watching your video, I know I can hem it. Thanks so much.
You ccan certainly do it Mimi. Happy sewing😁
This was SO helpful! I appreciate the way you demonstrated all of the steps while also noting the time each step took. I’m eager to try this method out on two of hubs “new” (thrifted) shirts. More alterations videos would be wonderful… though I adore all of your content 😊
Thanks Beth. There's more to come😀
And yes. I too would love and appreciate more alteration videos.(100%) I've recently restarted sewing for customers, specialising in all kinds of Alterations. Thanks much for sharing this one, Christine. Be blessed, be well and be strong! Also, be Happy! ❤❤❤ May Almighty God continue to bless you and the work of your hands. Chao! Lots of love from Trinidad and Tobago, in the West Indies. ❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂
Loved your video, so easy to follow.
That's awesome Willy. Thank you😁
Your video will of just shown alot of novice sewers how simple and easy it is to alter hems on clothing. Perhaps you could do one on how to sew a buttonhole and sew on a button. thanks Christine always Great! 😊
Thanks Janet. I actually plan on doing a buttonhole soon. Must get on to that😁
I love your short cuts. Will keep the, in ,ind if I’m asked to do this. Thanks. 😊
You're very welcome Pat😁
Very clear instructions. Thanks.
Thanks Stan😁
Thank you for the video! Yes, please more alterations videos. I appreciate that you broke down what is involved in the rate and time of the alteration. I love the business insight. What about zipper repair or replacement on jackets, simple pant or jeans hem, leather sewing, & fitting necklines? Thanks again, Christine.
Thank you. I'm going to bring home more alterations to record. I should have jeans hem this week😁
You're brilliant! Thanks for this ❤️
Thank you so much😁
Such good info for me. I’m not tall and I love rounded hems to hit me just right. Thank yoi
You're very welcome Laurie 😀
I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses a rotary cutter for making clothing.
I think I use mine about 90% of the time. Wouldn't be without it😀
Great idea sewing a stay stich, I have never thought about it and I have been sewing nearly all my life. Thanks for the great tip.
You are so welcome Giovanna. If there's a shortcut, I'm going to try to find it!😁
That is a brilliant way to hem clothes. I love the screwdriver as a stiletto. 😊 yes, please, would love to see more alterations video.
Thanks Mable. The screwdriver was the closest I had at hand😁
Alteration videos would be great. I am always taking up hems. I am beginner to turn away large skirt hems. Staying with pant hems. Repairing torn jeans between the legs or zipper replacement or repair replacement. Twill pants ripped vertically by the belt loops in the back of the pants.
Added to the list Linda. Thank you😀
Thank you Christine this was a very good reminder of things I should know, but forget to do, like stay stitching before cutting. I subscribed so I don’t miss more of your alteration videos. Now, what with osteoporosis and losing about 2” between my neck and waist, everything is too long, even Petite tops. My problem is, shortening a top, say 2” all around, can leave a shirt flared out at the sides because I’m not as wide there as further down my hips. So I take my longer combo French / hip curved ruler and draw a new curve without changjng the shirt’s hem length at the sides. However, the hem at that location has to be opened up in order to blend with the newly drawn curve. I found your video because I’ve been searching for what the correct length is for a woman’s shirt, anyway. All this takes me way more than 20 minutes, the reason why I will not sew for other people😅. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks Molly. The other thing you could do is add a dart in front and back. That way you don't need to redo the hem. If it has a dart already, you could increase it😀
What a great idea! Thank you!
Yes yes please more videos on alteration. Thank you 🧚♀️
You got it Lana. There's more to come 😄
Really interesting. I learn a lot from your tutorials. Thanks Christine. Keep em coming. 👍👍👍
You're very welcome Christine. Thank you😁
Great video showing how to do a stay stitch first, i would never have thought of doing that and it looks so professional. I would love to see more alteration videos please. Maybe shortening t shirts as i cant ever seem to sew the hems without stretching them 😊
Thanks Martina. I've added it to the list😀
😅thank you for showing this alteration. More please x
Thanks Linda. More to come😁
I really enjoyed that, as I am starting to take in most of my clothing. Plus, I want to cut off several overlays that need to be hemmed. Never thought about doing it this way. Great idea! You’re looking happy to be back into the swing of things.😊⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So happy to be back at it Debbie😀
Thanks so much for this video, I just wish you had posted it before I cut into one of my shirts and ruined the curved edges 😅😢. At least now I know how to do it for next time. It was a really good way to have the perfect finish. Love your videos, I watch them all and try every one of the things you show us. I too would love to see me alteration videos, in particular, inserting elastic into the sides seams of purchased trouser waistbands to pull them in as I loose weight. Keep up the great work, so glad you are healing well.
Thanks Rachel. I plan on bringing many more alterations home😊
Yes please show more alterations. 😊
Your tutorials have taught me so so much. Thank you for sharing.
You're very welcome Faith. I'll keep them coming😀
Thanks to you I just did a bang up job shortening four of the hubs shirts, and you can’t tell my alterations from the original stitching. Yes, more alteration videos, please. I’d also love a video on a large carpet bag so I can use up some gifted upholstery fabric. Really big, like they used to carry on the canal boats. Please and thank you.
That's awesome Cherie. Well done. The carpet bag is on my to do list😀
Then I"m going to quit sketching out a design of my own because it will not be anywhere close to what you design. @@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@@CherieEmmons haha, don't stop sketching. It might be ages before I get to it, and yours could be far superior 😀
I enjoyed this video! I like seeing alterations. Keep 'em coming! PS Glad you are back to sewing again.
More to come Lottie. Thank you😀
Hello Christine, very nice and educational video. Can you show us please, how to make the curved front and sides on a blouse from scratch? I am aware that if the upward curve is too steep it will be troublesome to manouvre.
Good idea Judy. When I make or alter a shirt in that way, I'll do a video😁
Thank you so much for this video. What a brilliant way of doing a hem! I have just found your channel from Stacey J's one. Also, I love your top. That fabric is awesome!
Thanks so much Steph😀
Yes, please make a video on how to lower neckline on tshirts
oh, that'll be a nice challenge Esther😀
Yes!! I'd love to see more alterations. You made it look so easy thank you. Can you do a video on putting in zippers without a zipper foot? My machine is quite old and I cant find a foot for it. :(
That's a good idea. I'll add it to the list😀
Fantastic video. Thank you, Christine!
Glad you enjoyed it Maria. Thank you😁
Great video - it makes sense to do it that way. Thanks for the tutorial.
You're very welcome Lianne😁
Yes please, more alterations.
Thanks Donna. There are more to come😁
Brilliant, thank you. Christine
Thank you Christine😀
Excellent video
Thank you Val😀
Hi Christine - I have a few shirts that need shortening and this video is just what I was looking for. Long time follower of your videos on your home management and sewing projects. Please make more of these videos on alterations. However, I have a question: How do you measure a shirt that has an extra long back (compared to the front) to shorten both the front and back equally? I think the extra long backs look so silly! Thank you and long may you thrive 🙏🙏
Thank you Susan. Hemming the back and front are really personal choice. Often the front is shorter than the back, and if it suits, you can take the same amount off all the way around, but if you still need a shorter back, draw the desired line in with chalk or erasable pen on the back starting from the side seams, then cut accordingly.
I plan to do more alterations videos, but most of what I do are plain pants hems.😀
Nice shirt hems.
Thanks Lucille😀
Great video as always.
Thanks Melanie😁
I’m so glad you’ve done this video. I was going to ask if you could show how to take off 6” from a maxi dress as it’s too long for me. When I sit down the dress sits in the floor so when I go to get up I tread on the skirt and nearly fall over! I’ve measured 6” up from the bottom and marked it with a erasable pen then pinned the original hem up so I can see what it looks like. The skirt is a full circular one and the dress was expensive so I’m very nervous about cutting off the surplus fabric. Sadly I don’t have an overlocker either. Can you advise please?
If it's a woven/cotton maxi dress, the hem should be narrow just as on the shirts I've done in this video, so I'd use the same technique.😀
Perfect, thank you 😊
You're welcome Narda😁
Thank you, great video. I have a blouse with a curved hem and has a peasant look but buttons down the front but I’m thinking about hemming it up, straight across. What do you think? Any suggestions?
I’m short, and really appreciate the alterations videos esp. for beginners 😊
I converted a curved shirt to a straight shirt just last week for a customer. Both work fine, it really depends on the outcome you'd like for yourself😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thanks 😊
Very helpful
Thanks Brandirose😁
Wow, awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!😀
thank you! I need to shorten my 4 year old toddler granddaughters knit sleeves - i have a coverstitch and serger? just a beginner - which to use is best?
I'd go with the coverstitch machine, but practice on other fabric first, and watch some tutorials if you can find them. I will do one, but haven't had the time yet😁
thanks so much for responding, very kind!@@ChristinesHomeAffairs
What kind of sewing machine are you using?
I use Jack and Prosew machines😁
