Mr.Lande, I am curious. How did you know the true story behind this song? Did you know Paul, Diana or any family members? I was in my second year of college when the song was released and was working during the summer as a life guard at one of our city's swimming pools. There was a juke box at the pool and teenagers were depositing money about every 15 minutes to play the song.

    Paul Anka- Diana Lyrics
I'm so young and you're so old
This, my darling I've been told
I don't care just what they say
    'Cause forever I will pray
You and I will be as free
As the birds up in the trees
Oh, please, stay by me, Diana
Thrills I get when you hold me close
Oh, my darling, you're the most
I love you but do you love me
    Oh Diana, can't you see
I love you with all my heart
And I hope we will never part
Oh, please, stay with me, Diana
Oh my darlin', oh my lover
Tell me that there is no other
I love you with my heart
    Oh-oh, oh-oh
    Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Only you can take my heart
Only you can tear it apart
When you hold me in your loving arms
I can feel you giving all your charms
Hold me darling, ho-ho-hold me tight
Squeeze me baby with a-all your might
Oh, please, stay by me Diana
    Oh, please, Diana
    Oh, please, Diana
    Oh, please, Diana

This song Diana still sounds great at my live gigs. (pre Covid) .. and it works well on the Cruise Ship gigs as well. My Students love to learn and play this song. If you need it transposed into a different key to make it easier to sing, i can help you with that as well. Little did Paul know that his music would still be sounding fresh 64 years later after it's release. Gotta LOve the Classics.

Whenever I hear this song It reminds me of Diana who lived in the apartment under me on Yucca St. in Hollywood back in the late '70s & early '80s. She ended up getting nominated for an Academy Award about 1980 and being costar for a film that is a cult favorite. Haven't seen her in a few years.

My boyfriend played me this song when he confessed having a crush on me in 6th grade. We're in 11th grade and still together. We love like we're in this era. Ironically my name is Diana.

how is it ironic? he chose that song because your name is Diana. I have to admit it's a better choice than dirty Diana, but if your name was Caroline, guess what song he would have picked?

I'm so young and you're so old
This, my darling, I've been told
I don't care just what they say
    'Cause forever I will pray
You and I will be as free
As the birds up in the trees
Oh, please stay by me, Diana
Thrills I get when you hold me close
Oh, my darling, you're the most
I love you but do you love me
    Oh, Diana, can't you see
I love you with all my heart
And I hope we will never part
Oh, please stay with me, Diana
Oh, my darlin', oh, my lover
Tell me that there is no other
I love you with my heart
    Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Only you can take my heart
Only you can tear it apart
When you hold me in your loving arms
I can feel you giving all your charms
Hold me, darling, ho-ho hold me tight
Squeeze me baby with-a all your might
Oh, please stay with me, Diana
    Oh, please, Diana
    Oh, please, Diana
    Oh, please, Diana

I was young when my grandmother told us that Paul Anka's mom was directly related to our family. Somehow in high school my teacher found out through a cousin of mine and let me tell you, I was a shy and quiet student but I could do No wrong in her class. She was obsessed. She told me so many times how her favorite song was Diana. I promised myself to come full circle this year and attend his live concert. Bravo for his talent and clean reputation after all these years. I'm proud..I hope God grants him many more years of health and happiness. 🥰
