I guess I would say this level of “decent“ protections is now the standard for the $95 annual fee card. Sapphire, preferred, autograph journey, and now this one. They probably felt like they had to do this to keep up.

I am probably like everyone else and automatically got product changed from The Citi Premiere to the Strata Premiere. I think I'll stick with my Venture X or CSP for travel coverages.

Does the in “combination with points…” not mean that you just need to pay with points and pay taxes and fees with the card? Does more research need to be done?
That’s the exact question I have. It would seem like if, for example, you used 50,000 Air Canada points that you already had it in Air Canada, and just paid the taxes and fees with this card that you would be covered. But I’d feel a lot more comfortable if a representative of the company came out and said that.
Certainly, if you paid some with points, some with this card, and some, with a third card, the strata premier would not afford your coverage.
The Chase Sapphire cards are a lot better here because they explicitly say you only need to pay for some of the fare.

I just can't get into Citi. I want to but to me they just don't hang with Chase. I like their point earning better than Chase personal but Inks are a league of their own.
The biggest problem with Citi is that there is no good way to earn lots of points quickly. So in that sense, I agree with you.
Chase will likely always be my #1.

I’m definitely not a fan of the new card design whatsoever, looks cheap feels cheap and is easily scratched just an all around fail for a $95 AF card compared to the Citi Premier.

I guess some is better than none. Overall a net positive I guess. I still disagree with Citi’s approach to this and the fact we still don’t have ANYTHING from them for possibly a few more days.
Correct, something is better than nothing. For those of us deep in the game, this functionally changes nothing, for example, I’m sure you and I will still be using our Sapphire cards to pay any taxes and fees on flights so that we get the best possible coverage with the friendliest language.
But for a Normie, who doesn’t know any better, or only has one travel card, Something being better than nothing definitely applies.
My Citi app this morning had a pop up showing my card has been changed to the Strata Premier. No information was given over the weekend when the switch took place.
And that was and is my issue.
Net positive for me because I had the old one with nothing, but the language around the entire cost is sketchy. BUT it's still better than the Amex Gold.

Agree with your final verdict, the insurance benefits feel a bit underwhelming compared to Chase and Amex, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Yeah, it seems like the desire to put the specifics out there is pretty low.
Because I spend more than a month every year outside the US, I use the Premier's 3X groceries, dining, and gas. I rent cars with the 2X CSP but will start booking some flights with the Strata Premier's 3X.

FYI: The Strata can be upgraded to the PRESTIGE by calling the number on the back of Strata to determine eligibility. (according to Citi's website)

Sorry! Since you posted this, I have seen a couple discussions on the topic.
No problem, it has since been scrubbed from that FAQ location on their website -- so they are no longer promoting it that way. In a response to my comment on one of Sebby's videos, he told me third-hand information that Citi made a mistake, and included a link from frequentmiler and a quote stating that it was an error according to a Citi spokesperson.

Citi strata does not sound that appealing but to each its own.
The insurance part is nothing to write home about, but I suppose it’s better than nothing. I have found value from the city premier, so I’m keeping it for now. But, every year it gets a reevaluation. Thanks for watching so much!
