Someday i'll remake this cover. I know this cover is not that well executed. I'm keeping it on just for the help tabs make for people to learn. In my defense, this is old and from a time in which i didn't have the involvement i now have on bass. 4 years have passed, so please judge me for my recent works
I cant quite see how you use your right hand fingers to play the 2-2-4 with that speed without making it sound sloppy, I get it sometimes but I cant keep up with the rythm :/
Dogfow I start with middle finger then repeat index for the string change, that's the fastest way. It's hard, so you need to practice slowly ;)
thanks!
I think you did a pretty good job already :).
Hey cover do you ever give lessons
I saw this video 7 years ago and it motivated me to pick up the bass. Here I am, 7 years later, capable of playing this song, thank you man.
That's aweosme man! Ive been self teaching since 2020 and I've definitely improved significantly, being able to play some flea songs and I'd say I'm intermediate right now. Gonna keep going at it until I can play. I think I can pull off some sections from this song, it's mostly fast hammer ons and fifths
I’ll tell you what, dude: I see your comment now and it motivates the hell out of me! I’ll come back here in 7 years and we’ll see what I got!
@@Leitefsj same
Geddy struggles with this live,if you can play it,give him a call
@@Leitefsj It won't take 7 years, at least it'll take like 2 years.
I can`t imagine how Geedy Lee could play the bass and the keyboards in all the concerts from Rush since this song appears in 1980
And sing. The man is unreal
@Fishkeg Poor Mic, Thats one hell of a nose Geddy has.
@@markdavis4754 I'd pay to be that mic
Hysteria's lookin pretty good rn
Hysteria is not that hard. It's just a stamina test.
@@stevec6427 I've never understood why people call it hard, I'm an ok bassist and I learnt it by ear, it's the only song I've ever learnt by ear as well lol
@@Joverover i learnt it quite early on in my learning and the main issue is stamina i think. On its own the different sections of the bassline are not too complex, but to play them all fast enough whilst maintaining a quality sound can be pretty difficult in my opinion.
@@stevec6427 yea hysteria is a serious stamina test, other then that, the hole song isn’t that hard to learn
Always used to think hysteria was hard. But THEN Tommy the cat and YYZ showed up
2:15 my God you even nailed the "harmonics"
My drummer just said we should play this... Should I be scared haha
Rodrigo Teresa you, your drummer, and your guitarist should be scared lol. Each part is crazy difficult except for the keyboard part
This is probably the hardest song to keep the rhythm and time on the bass guitar
Mycatis42
Yeah, it seems like the keyboard part was made to take some rest. Not for guitarist, unfortunately.
my buddy also said we should jam this but i don't think he fucking understands. I was working on his 1612 cover by vulfpeck for like months, not as dedicated as i could be doe. And I'm just now passable at it. Not perfect, or clean, but i pass. I will be at this all summer even if i put hours into doing it each day.
you should all be shitting your pants
That chord, you know the one. So often missed, love it when bass players pick it up. (1:27)
I recently got into base, and so far I can play from 2:54 to 3:20
Don't forget muse - hysteria
lol, I suggest you learn, For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Metallica.
hahha I can play For Whom the Bell Tolls, I'll try the others as well. Thanks guys :)
Two s's *bass*
gaybutte and here I come to ruin your little bit of sarcasm with a bit of my own. This a bass guitar cover not a Geddy Lee cover. For if it were a Geddy Lee cover one would need to play both bass guitar and synthesizer. So this being labeled a bass guitar cover a synthesizer is not required.
R.I.P Neil Peart. A truly amazing and talented musician
fucking hell. i never realized how intricate the bass lines in this song were. you and Geddy are both madmen.
2:50 i laughed out loud for some reason, your ability to stay still like a melannequin is only surpassed by your bass chops, great work, RIP Neil Peart
I can beer that, hold my play.
TheGoodfella - are you having a stroke?
Diante W Hardin fair enough
You would rather drink beer over learning how to play this?
xXtheswagger8Xx - you... you just don't get it, do you?
@@blue-tb2fd tbh, that's what I'd do
Geddy Lee is a god, and this guy kept the pace with God
Period.
You need to remember that Geddy Lee plays keyboard.
Correction. The gods pray to Alex, Geddy and Neil when they need help.
It’s not that hard of a song to play
@@ratburger546 😐
No one has ever written bass lines like Geddy. A true master and member of the greatest rock band of all time.
Geezer Butler and John Paul Jones
@@gianthills Yes these guys are great with Jones possibly being my favorite, but Geddy was on another level musically. The complexity of his baselines are really interesting.
@@Stratisfied22 geddy was amazing
@@Stratisfied22 shit he still is even after retirement
@@gianthills geezer is fantastic but musically his lines were pretty simple. Geddy is on another level
Oh sweet, play along tabs! I'm totally going to use them because I'm totally capable of playing this!
Glongus pls there's potential for greatness in you
I'm sorry, but this version deserves way more views than the Anna Sentina version. You have the tabs and made less mistakes.
+Büche Stigma
*two things
She has a double entendre
Fine I'll say it then, she has blond hair, tits and most people wanna get at what's in here pants. The creator of this video doesn't.
a music man stingray bass!
😎
THIS is one of the most difficult bass lines in RnR history frankly. If you can even come close to what Geddy recorded then pin a medal on you. Cramp on.....
As a bass player I agree, but it's not Geddy's toughest imo. The fills in La Villa Strangiato are maddening, and it's one of those things where there are just some guys who will never be able to emulate them no matter how hard they try. There are a couple of really hard parts in YYZ, but I challenge bass players to try Digital Man. Not only is it all over the place, he never plays the same 2 bars the exact same way, and in concert he nails it EXACTLY like the studio version (I've had people say 'well, he's just in a key kinda riffing around'. No, if that were true he wouldnt be replicating the nuances exactly every time). Also, the opening bass riff from Anthem is a LOT tougher than it sounds.
I thought Roundabout was hard but this has to be one of the hardest songs to play on bass. Geddy Lee is the best bass player ever.
I reckon some Dream Theater song has that title or something lol
chromatic fantasy by jaco pastorius
@@szalame631I’ve only listened to a couple of dream theater songs but I know they’re crazy
@@MylesSkardoutos John Myung dude... THE BEST!
Roundabout by Yes???
Kudos for tackling this one. One of the hardest basslines I know of.
That was just insane
Holy crap, that looks so difficult! D: Geddy makes it look so easy tho.
He did write the line after all lol.
It's actually not a very hard song to play.
***** He's not wrong, but also not entirely right. The song requires a lot of dexterity and speed. Most of the song is repeated, so if you can get the main riff down, you're halfway there.
***** yea it gets easy once you master that particular part.
I'm learning this right now and I have to say , this song's extremely difficult , from timing to the super quick runs , and you nailed it . keep it up , dude
Day 83, i have finally gotten past the intro.
good job 👍👏
That's actually really impressive man, good job! :D
10 years later, people are still tring to learn this song. Probably your best video ever! This song is one of my favorites.
I liked the video so now it has 2112 likes.
Aaron Grossman Where's Neil Peart When you need him?
*Noice*
Great that it has 2112 likes and not 4 right Mista?
exactly how many years it takes to learn this song
im a beginner bassist but ive played guitar for like 7 years but damn dude this is crazy haha. hope i can be as good as you on the bass one day!
Rush bass lines are (the) most complex of any band's music, what an awesome talent you have, great job.
Dude i love the format of how you throw the tabs up and just play the song all the way thru. Makes it easier for me to learn songs this way, awesome covers btw, killin it 👍
What was in Geddy's head ?!
.-...-....--.-...-....--.
Sgt. Pepper
_oH tHat iS CleVeR_
Imhalfamazing
Good things indeed...
You do know that Neil Peart wrote YYZ. Like all of it? Including Bass and Guitar.
Imme Smaling. Got a source for that? As far as I'm concerned, he was the mind behind the intro, the basic groove and the idea behind the flow of the song (business of airports, coming home, etc), but he didn't write the whole song. Geddy and Alex would never let that happen. Neil is an amazing drummer and fantastic lyricists, but the heavy song writing is mostly Geddy and Alex. Again, he had a big role in the music writing for this song, a lot more than others, but he wasn't alone.
I have to say, I love this song and after your video I was finaly able to finish this song thanks to the tabs, eventhough 1:45 is still a beast to play. Keep this up bro, you are the best and I ablsolutely appreciate that you even include the tabs.
I wanted to learn this song when I had 1 year of experience. Now after 4 years on top. I made it.
Excellent ! I love Rush, this song and your play !
love this song. you did it justice with this cover! dont see a need to remake it. its awesome. i subbed right after watching this.
That was a savage, majestic, elegant, filthy, unreal, flawless, impressive bass slapping that i've seen. I like how you included the tabs - shows how difficult rush's tracks really are.
Pray for me I chose this song for my final 12th grade music examination at the end of the year.
EDIT: Alright because I promised in the comments, here's my own bass cover of YYZ: ruclips.net/video/eKpaiRT-9hg/видео.html
how did ya do?
How did it go
HOW DID IT GO
It must not have went well
I bet he got kicked out... Don't blame him, tho
YOU DA MAN!! I have learned many songs from your tabs, but I watched this one purely for entertainment. You get all the little pops, pings, slides, doubled notes, everything!! If you don't play bass for a living, you're wasting your immense talent. I've had people tell me they think I'm a great bassist, and when they do, I put this video on and say, "No. I'm a good bassist, HE'S a GREAT bassist!! Kudos, man!!
I think Geddy would say….someone who finally plays it right! This is tough song on bass. I just could never get it down. Your playing is spot on.
holy shit
That best sums up the complexity and talent.
i read your comment just after saying that aloud myself
It's funny watching this after smells like ten spirit
Teen*
omg the contrast
Dude, you put out the best tab videos on RUclips, bar none! I've been working on this song for a week or so but there were a few spots where I couldn't figure out where he was at by just listening (I learn most songs by ear) and this video filled in the blanks. Thanks for posting it and keep up the good work!
Check out Benny the Bassman on RUclips. He's equally good if not better
I have been playing bass for like 6 months now and i have learned half this song because you thank you @CoverSolutions
Great job.
How long did it take you to learn this?
I like the way your fingers in your hand just glide over the strings you have great technique
7 years of on and off bass playing, this was the song i chose to return afte a break
Bro your fingers are moving faster than Usane bolt
Oh, pff! I can play that bit at 2:52 to 3:21 flawlessly, nice try though.
Old Stoneface oh yeah? Bet you can't
Ryan Carter I bet you can't
That Basil profile pic tho
Bullshit
hahahahaha
Fabulous job! That's a tough song to cover...Especially when most everyone that is here listening is very familiar with the song. Great feel!
This is a lifetime achievement. Great job!
Here playing this now. RIP Neil
You must do La Villa.
Thoroughly enjoyed it man.
I come back from time to time on this one. Holy crap is it hard to play. Two days ago a did it front the start to end with no mistakes. Only took me TWO YEARS! I think I will go out and burn my bass now.
Great work! Could you cover the Trees by Rush?
If anyone could play this song on their bass I wanna let u know
YOU ARE FUCKING GOD !
I love this song. Keep up the amazing content!!!!!
the first “inpossible” song i learned thank you mate
Lol i tried learning this song on bass and it was way out of my league. MORE RUSH PLEASE. Fly by Night
Goal: Play along
Obstacle: Rush
major props for playing this so well man its not easy to play perfectly like you do always :)
My goodness!! You kick ass! Nice job.
great cover could you do the supermassive black hole by muse?
How did I not see this comment?
I've decided to buy a bass guitar. Then, I saw this...
I watched this, then I decided to buy a bass guitar.
NO ME CANSO NI DE VERLO NI DE ESCUCHARLO, ¡ MUCHAS FELICIDADES !
Cool video. What gymnastic fingerwork! No wonder Les Claypool loved this song so much.
If you don't mind a little criticism it was a tad choppy but don't take that too hard, I can't nearly play that song and it's a challenging song on bass. I'm sure with practice you'll get it just as good as Geddy some day.
+Politikill Trash It was a long time ago. I hope some day have the time to do a reissue of this one
+CoverSolutions you can do it now :)
+CoverSolutions DO IT !
Geddy is a fucking god there's no being "better" than him
+Larry Johnson But..he..didn't.. but...
You should do Day of the Baphomets by the mars volta
good job! one of the best versions ive seen on yutube
This guy is amazing. He nailed it
are there upstrokes with the fingers here as well. I'm trying to learn this and my fingers just arent fast enough on the plucking
Technique called raking.
fuck!! that was awesome!
you know its hard when even this guy is struggling and making mistakes
but still, i will learn this within the next 5 years
Ur a real pro man its sooo tough finding a good bass player these days
I'm almost 13 and I've been playing bass for almost a whole year now. my private teacher is making me learn this and it's giving me a serious headache haha
How can a four and a half minute song have so many notes?
One word: rush
Bflat esharp tuning yeah... I love this song ❤️
Thanks for posting this, man.
coffee Shop! RHCP!
Yes, please!
do a streetlight manifesto song
Everything Goes Numb
good stuff. intimidating song to learn, but super fun to play once you do
Overall great effort. Many may have quibbles, but better than all but two other YT videos on this!
The tabs are a big plus.
Play along? HA! Damn I need to practice more.
my bass instructor told me to learn the whole song, I HAVE TINY 13 YEAR OLD FINGERS WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THOSEEEEE
Bass from this song gonna wake me in heaven.
I have to attempt to play this tonight. Just looks awesome. The looks of the Notes. And if the notes sound as good as they look. Then we’ll be in business here.
Do Metallica pulling teeth!
plz
FUCK SHITTY METALLICA
Or the call of ctulhu
this is so amazing I just pooped a little
Holy crap! Oh, shit, umm I mean I hope you have spare underwear or you were sitting on the toilet when that turtle head plopped out. That would suck to clean that up and then accidentally get that on the floor or even worse, your bass and orange desk favorite book a hotel
I love that while Alex I’d just hacking away, and changing strumming patterns like every phrase Geddy us just off doing his own thing. Yet it works. It works so well. This is the kind of music that blows my mind; because I cannot comprehend how people can write this. I don’t get it!
This cover give you all my respect, sir...that Geddy Lee was insane!
In Ged we trust
I thought this wouldn’t be that difficult...
And then the intro ended.
I learned this song a few years ago. It was the best 8 months of my life.
After being a fan of Rush since this Album came out at 58 I finally bought a bass guitar today to ..wish me luck 🤷🏻♂️
Everytime I hear that intro I expect it to turn into John the Fisherman
Yep.
My life goal is to learn how to play this
Same. My goal is to learn both the drum and bass parts. I've been playing drums for a year and bass for 7 months.
Can you play it now
Well... Astonishing - that's the best word to use after watching this. Just astonishing. Great job. :)
You killed it dude!
never say bass is an easy instrument...
Everything was better if you teach us how to do a pact with the devil. That isn't made by a normal human.
Helped me a lot dude, i've only done a few hours practice and im finally getting somewhere lol :D
I thought this was about to be fun to learn but this is god tier
