    Very well said. The Downtown area is extremely safe like in most cities the metropolitan areas are low crime rate, safe and clean. I lived on the east side of Detroit for almost 50 years and survived. As a child I lived in the projects and rarely have I experience violence. Because in most cases people who keep to themselves and work live normal lives. The reputation Detroit gets is overrated.

      Yeah I lived on the east side in the hood for 25 years and I’ve never experienced violence. The thing people don’t understand is most of the crime in Detroit is not random. If you mind your business and don’t get into any trouble you’ll be fine. But if you go looking for trouble, trouble finds you. Which is how it is in most major cities.

    • @KillasStayFly
      @KillasStayFly Год назад +9

      Eh, that’s true in most cities, but the odds of being a victim of random crime is still a lot higher here than the rest of the country even if it’s not as likely as a non-gang member.

Things used to be chill, then COVID destroyed what little had been built and people lost their minds. I’ve dealt directly with gun violence and physical assault 3 times in the past year. Detroit is a lot more lowkey and subtle then new york but we have all the big city essentials like stadiums, high end shopping, entertainment, and fantastic food. 1. He doesn't live in Detroit. Royal Oak, Birmingham, or something that ends in "Hills". To be fair he said he is FROM Detroit. Probably moved 50 years ago to the burbs. Or lives in Indian Village, Palmer Park, or the new gentrified areas with condos going for $800k+ 2. He is correct about downtown. The issue is you have to travel through the outlying areas to get there. And get home. Crime in Detroit isn't so much about a general area. In many places its block by block. On the same street. Block 1....great. Manicured lawns, well kept homes, clean, safe. The next block burned out trap houses. And the one after is overall descent.

      I love how everyone from Detroit says the only way to stay out of trouble is to mind your own business. That can only be construed to mean don't say anything when you see somebody doing something illegal. If you saw someone rob the convenience store, no you didn't. If you watched those kids beat up that woman on the corner, close your door. If you heard the neighbor getting shot at in the drive-by and you saw the car driving away, turn your lights off and pretend you were in bed. Be invisible and most importantly don't say anything to anybody about anything, ever.

      Yuuuuup that’s facts! Detroit is very sketchy, but downtown is well funded to look nice (even then you can still see all the unfinished buildings and vacant ones etc). Go even 1-2 miles outside of downtown and just like that you can get killed, robbed, and or beat up. Even in downtown people still get killed or beat up just not as much.
      Detroit I’d say is improving, but there’s at least 2 decades of catching up and work that needs to be done before the city is even at a Ferndale level of safety and quality or living.
      I still love going to downtown though and at least supporting the city!

    If you're from Detroit, you know the "outlying neighborhoods" mean the actual residential areas inside Detroit proper. During the housing crash of 08, many people lost their homes to foreclosure when the city's mayor decided to misappropriate Hardest Hit Funds to pay conflicting interests for literally demolishing entire blocks and neighborhoods. Prior to that, resources and city services had been severely cut following the mass "white flight" when half the city's white population left for surrounding suburbs. Factors which only built up on long standing policies such as Redlining that had already been subjecting and confined most Black residents to the worst parts of the city. The recent gentrification that started mostly in the downtown areas mainly serve to attract more white residents as many of the city's black residents who remained have continued to voice there concerns of sub par city services, over priced property taxes, and lack of representation in policy making. #TheMoreYouKnow
