- My family and I recently spent a long weekend on the Taiwanese island of Kinmen (Jinmen, 金門).
Although administered by Taiwan, Kinmen lies on the opposite side of the Taiwan strait just a stone’s throw (well, 5km) from the Chinese city of Xiamen.
Peaceful now, Kinmen was the scene of some fierce battles between the Nationalist and Communist forces in the period during and after the Chinese Civil War.
Join us as we explore this charming little place and learn more about its war-scarred history.

著名的金門菜刀，即是用八二三砲戰期間，老共發射到金門的砲彈榴彈製成的，所以特別鋒利耐用，也是金門很特別有趣的歷史

Thank you for this video. You visited and described Ouyang Clan "Hui Guan" which was where my late father visited in the 90s (from Singapore). I saw a few photographs of that place but never a video until now. Brought back memories of him.

The house you stayed at looks very similar to the Jin Guang Fu Hall in Beipu. I guess it makes sense though because of Fujian settlers.
I'll need to head over there sometime, I want to start visiting the islands.
The islands are great. They are all so different. Only Matsu to go for me now!
@@AsiaHikelopedia I'm planning on having some time off in August. Might visit Liuqiu or Turtle Island (plan on doing the North Cross-island highway to Yilan, so might be able to go then).

you can' t rent a scooter without international driver license?
I'm not sure about international license, but you definitely need a local one of you're a local. Even if you can't rent a scooter, you can get around on an ebike as it's not that big!

What language do people speak in Kinmen?
Mandarin and Fujian dialect (aka Taiwanese)
Correction. Real Taiwanese language are the languages of Taiwan's indegenous population (making up 2% of the population. Mandarin and Fujian languages are mainland languages, not Taiwanese.

Different correction… The Taiwanese language spoken in Taiwan is a little bit different from what is spoken in Kinmen. Both can be considered dialects of Hokkien aka 福建話, but what is spoken in Kinmen is a bit closer to Xiamen’s version.
