OUR LAST SHOW PRESENTED A WHITE SATIN ARMY OF LOVE, MY RESPONSE TO THE REALIZATION THAT HOLDING THE PREVIOUS SEASON’S SHOWS IN MY HOUSE WITH A REDUCED AUDIENCE ENDED UP BEING AN ACT OF EXCLUSION INSTEAD OF THE OBSERVANCE OF RESPECT IN THE FACE OF OUR CURRENT WARS THAT I HAD INTENDED.
I HAVE ONCE AGAIN ASKED ALL THE FASHION SCHOOLS IN PARIS TO SEND US STUDENTS AND FACULTY, TO WALK IN THE SHOW AS AN EXPRESSION OF UNITY AND RELIANCE ON ONE ANOTHER.
ALSO INCLUDED ARE MEMBERS OF THE OWENSCORP TEAM AND FRIENDS WHOM I ADMIRE FOR LIVING THEIR AESTHETIC SO COMPLETELY AND GENEROUSLY, LIKE HANNAH DALTON FROM FECAL MATTER, ARTIST BAYBJANE, PHOTOGRAPHER KRISTINA NAGEL, AND ALLANAH STARR, ONE OF THE GRANDE DAMES OF THE TRANS COMMUNITY FROM NY TO PARIS.
LAST SEASON’S COLLECTION WAS NAMED ‘PORTERVILLE’ AFTER THE SMALL JUDGEMENTAL TOWN I HAD TO ESCAPE FROM. THIS SEASON’S COLLECTION IS NAMED ‘HOLLYWOOD’ AFTER THE BOULEVARD OF VICE I GLEEFULLY RAN TO...TO FIND MY PEOPLE... WEIRDOS AND FREAKS... LIVING IN A WORLD LOU REED DESCRIBED IN ‘WALK ON THE WILD SIDE’... I WAS LOOKING FOR THE FLAMING CREATURES I HAD SEEN FILMED BY JACK SMITH AND KENNETH ANGER... OR KEN RUSSEL. AND I ALWAYS REFERENCE THE LOST HOLLYWOOD OF PRE-CODE BLACK AND WHITE BIBLICAL EPICS, MIXING ART DECO, LURID SIN AND REDEEMING MORALITY.
RIGID TAILORING IS TRANSPARENT AND DELICATE IN SILK CHIFFON AND TULLE TO BE WORN AS FRAGILE CAPES, OVER THRASHED DENIM CUTOFFS AND THIS SEASON’S DEFLATED VERSION OF LAST SEASON’S INFLATED BOOTS MADE IN COLLABORATION WITH LONDON DESIGNER STRAYTUKAY. THE BOOTS ON MOST LOOKS ALSO HAVE ADDED SHIN CARGOPACKS.
FLOWING CAPES OR MEGAFRILLED DONUT SHRUGS ALSO COME IN SILK CHIFFON WOVEN IN THE COMO REGION OF ITALY AND MADE FROM GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC SILK WHICH MEANS THE NATURAL FIBER IS MADE WITHOUT HARMFUL CHEMICALS. SOFT HOODED TUNICS IN CHARMEUSE OR TRANSPARENT JERSEY ARE MADE OF CUPRO, A BIODEGRADABLE AND 100% PLANT-BASED FIBER MADE FROM COTTON WASTE THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE DISCARDED.

The men’s show was an idealized call for peace and unity, beautiful in translucent whites and mythical drapery robes, like ghost of the past illuminating and virtue signaling a unified state. Whereas the women’s show is a somber reality of the cruelty and rigidity of our world, a rough and jaded pursuit of self determination. Peace in the view of the patriarch and dominating class is a right, and a mythological universal good. Something that ought to be but not worth actualizing because it would challenge the status quo while skimming over the details of what that end goal looks like. Whereas women rights depict a suffrage for equality, respecting one’s autonomy requires collective action while remnants of segregation prevail as we are bound to adopt traits of the environment we come from and ignore the intersectional challenges we experience. Where the men’s show ends with hoisting a flag in celebration, the women’s show ends with a somber and mournful shower of flowers pedals while models return to what feels like a continuation of their cycle of conflict.
Overall, enjoy the contrast between the shows and appreciate the mens show’s concept more than I did when it was a standalone.

It looks like a procession of alien dignitaries arriving at an intergalactic summit. I love his use of models with different body types but it's problematic if your models are having difficulties walking in your designs. And closing out the show with the legendary Penelope Tree is brilliant.

In my small city there is extreme tolerance, it is even widely celebrated, in Fashion, art, music, poetry, radical eco ideas and extreme care for the environment..
Street theater and festivals, and of course all the gender tolerances and celebrations.
We just love creativity. The newly developed Main St, there is only one, has two gigantic see saws, opened out for pedestrians and a stage for performers.
I have only seen a bit of push back about Trans performers reading to children and schools hiding transgender lessons and help to transition. Even these people accept the adult world of gender differences. So yeah, big mouths try to force a narrative, but in reality, there is acceptance. if your a star and people stare, that is what stars are for.
Exactly. In 2024 you can say you are a Christian or Jewish and get more judgmental stares than if you were trans. I also find it ironic that billionaire Jack Doresy (formerly of Twitter before Elon Musk took over) attends his shows, including this one and he doesn’t attend other fashion shows. Normally I would all-the-way agree, but I think he kind of made it work here. As I understand it, the industry is already moving away from it and that matches what I'm seeing from the brands I follow. In any case, I appreciate you speaking forward about it --

You may miss the "slim and attractive" models but he's showcasing the collection on the people who ACTUALLY buys his clothing, the women and men who spends money on his brand. He truly designs for all shapes and sizes, it's not a gimmick with Rick Owens. His is one of the few brands that is actually making money and showing a profit every year. BTW, they are attractive people. They are all beautiful.
