I graduated high school in the '80's and enjoy your reviews of "classic" fragrances. I haven't worn mens fragrances for decades but have recently been getting back into the practice of doing so. Thanks again.

Yeah, wearing cologne sort of slowed down in the last few decades and I’m also getting back into it and graduated in 82.
It seems the art form of wearing cologne has come back strong by viewing these yt videos.

Great stuff! Oscar de la renta Pour Lui is a wonderful masculine classic scent. It's amazing how the addition (or subtraction) of a few notes can really change the way a fragrance comes across. I know you're not a fan of Red for Men Giorgio Beverly Hills (You reviewed it), however, it shares the same DNA as Pour Lui, but Pour Lui has a few more notes added. Pour Lui feels way more "finished" and ends up being a way better scent. I get the "barbershop" and the "fougere" feel, also, I would say very "comfortable" if you know what I mean, an easy wear (almost a 'Dad" scent), nicely blended. I really enjoy when your reviews come out, I generally share a lot of your sensiblities about mens fragrance. Also, don't always blindly trust Fragrantica's note break downs, sometimes they're wrong (not all the time but enough to check other websites).

@@ScentsOfSouthJersey Agreed, but I didn't say it "smells" like Pour Lui I said it shares a few similar notes, though, right? I guess a better example would be Chevignon cologne and Polo Green, hmm? Chevignon vaguely hints at Polo but doesn't have the extra notes that makes Polo Green an Icon. Is that easier to understand?

Initially I got a urinal puck scent, but less than a minute it got so much better, this scent brought me back to these 80's-90's frags, after a bad experience with Ted Lapidus (Black Soul) &Ted Lapidus for Men, which both I used to spray our front trees to fend off raccoons. Got this 90ml at a drug store for $19.00, so it was well worth it. The dry down just gets better and better, this is one that is decent buy and good reach if your heading out the door. Great review as always, please keep up the great work :) Regards from West Coast Canada !

This is one of very few classics that I would recommend getting a vintage bottle. I have a “Parfums Stern” version, and it completely annihilates my newer bottle in smell and performance. I’m not sure which one you have there. If you are getting 6-8 hours, it may be an older formulation. I easily get 8 hrs with the “Parfums Stern” version. I’m sure there are even older formulations as well. Thanks for the review !

@@vettevert5284 I've never bothered with chasing vintages before; but given how it's one of my favorite fragrances, and the extremely reasonable price, it seems well worth a try. I'm slightly concerned about the possibility that comes with buying old bottles from strangers that the bottle I get might be slightly off, but I guess that's just the risk you have to take. I suspect this may turn out to be one of those cases where it's actually the shipping that ends up costing me more than the actual fragrance itself.

@@rockpaperscissors6521 if you are in the States, there is a 1.6 oz “Sterns” on eBay for $27 and free shipping . The prices have gone up since I bought mine a few years ago. I have chased my share of vintage frags. Some good experiences, and some not so good. Overall, it’s been worth it. Most of the time I just keep an eye out for them rather than aggressively searching.

Massively thick spectacles, curly grey hair, but very well groomed. 👵 Uncanny. It was like getting a massive whiff of her lipstick and perfume. And to this day, I have difficulty shaking that association. Would've been amazing to smell the vintage stuff though. No doubt it would've had a few more animalics.

Opens: Grandma hair spray OR brother Jovan Musk (both 90s hair spray notes). While burning incense stick in the house from Even Greater Divide/headshop (aldehydes like eating Pop Rocks Candy, smelling incense sticks, lysol disinfectant aerosol).
Mid: Grandpa sandalwood bar soap on a rope.
Dry down: Dad shaving foam/balm OR Mom eating unsweetned yogurt or feeding baby Gerber pudding. Then they washed their hands in unscented liquid hand soap, then moisturized with medical petroleum jelly vaseline.
In the cold winter, just smells like bitter and dry chai tea powder.

Don't lie to me, tell me it's shieet. Tell me I love rolling around in Oscar De La Renta's doodoo. Tell me I enjoy waking up next to a large brown surprise left by Amber Heard first thing in the morning, except it's really a bottle of Pour Lui.

I’d look for a vintage as soon as this one’s done, see how different it is

@@ScentsOfSouthJersey ya I have a vintage splash and this one. I haven't even done a side by side myself 🙃 I think the older one lasts longer and as usual with these things has a deeper, slightly.more animalic base but they are both nice really.
