    I don't know how did i get here, the mysteries of youtube i guess, but it's so funny and weird. In México (were l'm from) we eat the exactly same thing! (that tiny fishes) we don´t called it "Kapenta" we called "Charales" Greetings from México!

      Wow I had no idea, I always believed that they were only found in Africa because foreigners are always so shocked when they see them. Greetings from Zambia!

    In Uganda, we call it mukene. Very nutrient rich. We also dip it in water after dry roasting to get the sand out.

    Thank you so much! I have never truly enjoyed dried kapenta or matemba (as we call them in Zimbabwe), only fresh ones because I could never eliminate the bitterness. Thanks to this recipe I understand how to do it now and they taste just as good as bream or tilapia! Excellent!

    Hi, like this method, how do I maintain the crunchiness of kapenta even after adding tomatoes? Usually mine turns back wet after tomatoes

  • @Chishamiso13
    @Chishamiso13 5 лет назад +2

    Hi, please clarify that you dry fried the kapenta before soaking? I'm assuming this gets rid of the bitterness

      Actually, they don't grow big. I don't know their biological name though. We also eat them in Namibia. They don't come from the sea, but from fresh water. In Namibia they are only available during the rainy seasons

    My first time of watching this video,im from Ghana and we have similar fish,how do you get rid of the sand in the fish.thanks I have learnt a meal.

    • @TemzieBites
      @TemzieBites  6 лет назад +4

      Hi Bridget, to remove the sand you put the fish in a pan with NO OIL and on low heat, keep turning it and do this for roughly 10 mins, it should turn slightly brown, Make sure it doesn't burn. Then scoop the fish out(please don't dump everything into the water because the frying process will remove the sand) and place in warm water then drain and the sand will be gone. Hope that helps :D
