    Hi there just watched your video thank you just what I needed to know. Here is something I learned from another you tuber. Charles dowding has a site here in the UK and for tomatoes and cucumbers he grows on strings like you however he ties a knot in the string at the bottom and buries it under the plant rins the string loosely to the to bar and as the plant grows the string is wrapped around plant. The weight of the plant stops the string coming out. Something I learnt check his sit out he is really good and totally organic. Hope this is of interest to you. Liz 👍👍👍🙂

    Great build and video. You might consider transplanting tomatoes at the same height as their container.
    The depiction here buries the transplant several inches below- this puts it at greater risks for rot, blight, fungal problems.

      Hi there,
      Thanks for watching the video and for your comment! Tomato plants and unique and can grow roots out of their stem, which is why it's recommended to plant them below the stem line. However, I understand your concerns about the transplant being buried too deep and being at risk for rot, blight, and fungal problems.
      The technique shown in the video is actually called "deep planting," and while it may seem counterintuitive, it can actually lead to stronger, more robust plants with a better root system. By planting the tomato plant deep, you're encouraging it to grow additional roots along the buried stem, which will help it to better absorb water and nutrients from the soil.
      That being said, it's important to make sure that the soil is well-draining and that the plant is not buried too deeply. If you're still concerned about the risk of rot or fungal problems, you can try gently removing some of the lower leaves on the stem before planting to reduce the risk of moisture getting trapped around the base of the plant.
      Thanks again for your comment and happy gardening!

    Thanks for this, definitely going to try! I'm interested to know what kind of string you use. I was thinking of using a jute (mainly because I have tons), but yours looks like it might be stronger, almost like paracord.

      Hey Erin! Jute is perfectly fine - I actually think the sting I had was a bit to thick. I use the green garden jute mostly -> amzn.to/3vlJ2zz (amazon affiliate link)

    This is great, thank you! Do you trellis the eggplants as well?

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  3 года назад +1

      Nope. Egg plants (as far as I know) will not climb a trellis and do not need to be trellised. Perhaps there is a vine type but I am not aware.

    Hoping you can clear something up, you say four ten foot pipes but it looks like you actually need/use five?

      @OrganicBackyardGardening  4 года назад

      Hi Randall, Yep! You are right you need 5 not 4. That was error. The photo shows 5 too.

    Great idea. Just curious how you prevent the pipe from sinking down into the soil after a few months? Will clip be enough to tight the pipe?

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  3 года назад

      Yep! I push it down quite a ways and it doesn’t sink down further. Clips help too.

    Can you please tell us the exact breed/type of your plants, especially the tomatoes.

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  7 лет назад +1

      +James Hi James, for Tomatos they are indeterminate varieties, Moskvich, Brandywine, Celebrity, Sungold (cherry) & Supersweet 100 (cherry). For cucumbers I use Corinto. Corinto is a Johnny Seed exclusive and can only be found at www johnnyseeds.com. However, any cucumber variety should work with this trellising method. The Tomatos are common and you should be able to find these seed at any seed supply company. Thanks for watching! -Tim

    something does not figure out/ you said 5 3/4 inch conduit pipes but how can four 7ft and one 4 foot hold up. You do not show the other side, you would need another set to complete the 8 ft Bed. confused.

      They are 8 feet. I only had one leg on the other side. So 3 for the legs. 1 cut one in half for the two widths and one for the top length. Now, after this video, a couple years later, I decided to add another lateral on the top and a 4th leg for more stability. Let me know if you still have questions.
