    We needed this video! So many options for trellising tomatoes. Definitely going to include some of these options in our garden!

    The first video I saw, was your video about not killing aphids. I was hooked!
    Yesterday, I saw two hover flies in my little tiny garden! I got to educate my little one as well.
    You have great content, and great presentation😊
    Thank you for sharing your talents with us❤️🙏

    Wow those are some awesome options. When I was a kid I never felt like the cages my dad used worked. I'm glad there are other ways to do it.

    This video was awesome! I learned a lot! Even though I've been watching a ton of gardening videos, that's the first time I've seen someone explain the Florida weave.

    I hate trellising tomatoes I've caged several this year, but I am going to experiment letting some sprawl on the ground that has a good bed of straw.

    New to your channel. Kinda binge watching.😂 I love all these idea's. I have the green gardening tape that stretches and use it on my tomatoes. My Romo tomatoes are so huge (5+ft) & so full of fruit that I couldn't keep up on the tape. They were so heavy they just would topple over so I had to start trimming and more tape.😂 I will definitely being doing the weave as it would have saved me alot of grief and waisting tape. I love tomatoes. I have volunteers everywhere and just let them grow for the greenery and smell😊 Thank you for sharing.

      They know I feed them weeds, bugs, and spoiled fruit, so they're ready for it. :)

    I use cattle panel for tomatoes as well, the way I try to keep up is with dollar tree has these green garden holders you can use to hold it to the panel. I use the yarn and weave it into the panel every 3 tomato loosely, that way you can put the tomato in place.

    Just curious, why don’t you prune out your suckers? You can increase your yield by doing so. I know not all tomatoes need it but most of them benefit from it

    • @thebeginnersgarden
      @thebeginnersgarden  2 года назад +2

      I did a side-by-side test one year and found that the ones I pruned yielded less in weight. I think there are specific climate reasons for that in my case, which may not be the case everywhere. I do prune the suckers in containers to keep the plants more tame, and also because of the limited nutrition in containers. But in my ground, raised bed, and straw bales, I don't as a rule prune.

      I'm glad you did a side by side comparison.
      I garden in a community garden and I generally don't prune for fear of attracting pests.
      The rare times I prune, I always pick and crush basil leaves and rub it on the injury to try to camouflage it from pests. It seems to work well.

    Might look at PVC for the stakes. They should last you several seasons

    In your podcast, you mentioned growing cucumbers or peas on the opposite side of your cattle panel method. Would you just plant this right next to the tomatoes, opposite of the panel? Or in between the tomato plants on the otherside of the cattle panel? Thank you for this information! I'm getting better as I go. On my 5th year gardening, so I'm still much of a beginner!

    • @thebeginnersgarden
      @thebeginnersgarden  Год назад +1

      Personally, I plant them in the ground on the opposite side of the straw bales.

    What size t-posts do you use for indeterminate? 6 or 7’?

      I've used a variety of sizes. I think the ones in the video were maybe 5 feet?

      I think she's talking about grow bags. I'm not sure what they are either but I've seen some videos that say something about grow bags in the title.

      Thank you. It does make sense because some plants looked like they were in pots.

      Yes, "grow bag," -- my video from 6/8/22 shows how they work.
