You cannot draft Clark, and then continue with the same sucky approach that left you 13-27 last year. Allowing last year's players to have the lead or play point is just seeking a repeat of last year's "suckyness." Give Clark the helm . . . You certainly have nothing to lose.

Give her the helm so she can turn the ball over 8 times while making 35% of like 20 shots? She is simply not ready for that much responsibility at this level as is seen by her poor play without all that much responsibility. Also a team can be 13-27 for a multitude of reasons and for all you know they may well have had a worse record if they had a different coach last year..

Just how fast do you want her to turn into a "bust"? She comes into the Association with an astronomical amount of hype, but no physical advantages. She's not quicker, faster, stronger, longer, and can't jump higher than the opponents she will be facing. The only possible advantage that she has is her confidence from coming off of a hugely successful college career. Her coach put her at the 2 against New York because putting the ball in her hands against Connecticut was a disaster (10 turnovers) and she was hoping that Clark would find some success as a spot up shooter. Expecting Clark to dominate and take over games is unrealistic.

Also, trade Boston to a team that plays a half-court, feeds the post style, and brings in a center like the Monica who played with Clark at Iowa. Everybody's style doesn't mesh. Maybe AB will hold her own against lesser post players, if there are any in the W. Martin may not add anything on the floor, but it could be an addition by the subtraction of Wheeler. OTOH, Wheeler would probably help the team coming off the bench to spell CC at point. So benching Wheeler for a more defensive minded shooting guard might help a lot. I think the Fever have three players on the bench that could do that. Martin could do that off the bench. Regardless of who they put at shooting guard, that player needs to know how to comeback for the ball to relieve pressure off CC. Then get it right back to Caitlin.

Disclaimer (I am a native Iowan, a Hawkeye ('83), but I am NOT a CC only fan, I root for all Hawks in all pro leagues) and I will be the first to admit that CC's "spark" has dimmed due to what appears to me to be her hesitation due to how the Sun and Liberty have really brought the D on her hard, which is expected being the "green eared" rookie on a new team in a pro league where every other team is gunning for her, but here's what really got my goat last night was when Clark, playing point, was taking control, being agressive, and it sparked the Fever and they were building momentum on both sides of the court, they were cutting into the lead, being agressive on D, and that was knocking the Liberty off balance and out of rhythm, and then the TO and what happened when the players took the floor? CC was in the #2. WTF? Why? Why would make that move, which destoyed the momentum they had with CC getting agressive and taking charge before the TO? From that point on their hesitation and lack of confidence in doing ANYTHING and EVERYTHING was painful to watch. I told my wife, it was like watching the Washington Generals play the Harlem Globetrotters. There was one camera shot of Lisa Bluder and Jan Jensen and the look and both of their faces told the whole story of everyone pulling for the Fever was also feeling. I hope the Fever can get something going to boost their confidence so they can kick the hesitation monkey off their backs and at least make the games competitive and close, even if they lose, not just for the fans (new and old) but mostly for themselves as pro athletes.

I enjoy watching this young women handle everything that is thrown at her with such poise and grace. She’s only human, but she’s so refreshing to watch in victory and defeat. She’s the real deal. She’s worthy of all the attention she gets. I love her interaction with young girls and how they idolize her. She’s one in a million is an understatement.

It may be time to trade Boston so she doesn't have to lose life and limb over her and Clark's inability to mesh styles together. I'm all for trading last year's draft pick and rookie of the year now that Clark is here because they picked Boston as the best draftee then and tried to build an inside game around her. But now that you have a generational player with an outside game, you can build around her instead. It makes no sense to assassinate Boston over something that is not her fault. If their styles don't blend it's not a federal offense. Find the other center she played with, Clark, at IOWA, get her in, and try to see if you can trade for Kate Martin. Set Clark up. However, she wants to be set even with all-white players if you can to satisfy her fans and even get her Iowa coach in the coaching chair before someone winds up dead over this nonsense.

A 21 pt loss followed by a 36 pt loss. What has the Fever got to lose to let Caitlin be Caitlin and to see what Caitlin can actually do to help this entire team perform better? Yes, she’s a rookie. Yes, she’s going to make some mistakes, take some bad shots and make some bad passes, at times, but they’re literally getting THUMPED! Take the leash off and embrace her game. See what happens. See whether or not that can be successful or whether it actually needs some tweaking. Until it’s been tested, TRULY TESTED, don’t dismiss the fact it very well might be your best option. If you didn’t want Caitlin Clark’s brand of basketball then why on earth did you draft her? Imagine telling a rookie Tiger Woods that his style of golf (risky and somewhat reckless) wouldn’t translate to the PGA. Imagine telling Peyton Manning all his crazy audibles at the line of scrimmage constantly changing plays didn’t translate to the NFL and wasn’t going to be successful. Imagine telling Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle or Hank Aaron to stop swinging for the fences, but just hit singles and occasionally sprinkle in an extra base hit because you won’t strike out as much. Are you getting the picture? Essentially, you’re asking those players not to be themselves, not to be the style of player that made them great, that made them who they are. Caitlin’s great at self-correcting. She doesn’t tend to make the same mistakes over and over. Unleash her. Let her lead. Let her be Caitlin. Take the bad with the good and watch her grow and excel. Every rookie has growing pains. Don’t try to take them from her. Instead, support her and encourage her and show some trust and faith in her…and in her teammates. This team doesn’t have a crappy roster. They have talent. Right now that talent base is underperforming and underachieving. That’s a fact. Caitlin doesn’t make excuses, and she doesn’t settle for mediocrity either. LET HER PLAY HER GAME! End of story.

They need to let Clark design the team she wants that best fits her skill set and let her decide what players come and go. She is the income-producing asset of the Fever; no one else. They could get some nice value for Boston, Weaver, and Smith on the trade block. I don't know how trading works, but any player can be cut at any time in the WNBA, so it's time to let anybody they think is a hindrance to Clark go to another team. But it's some aggravated stupidity to think someone is trying to destroy Clark's career when there is absolutely no upside benefit for a player to do so. If you keep spreading this type of nonsense, someone will wind up wanting to kill Wheeler behind this type of propaganda; the players don't deserve this type of accusation because you have zero proof of Wheeler's intent.

Calling for the Coach to be fired after 1 or 2 games may sound immature, but begs the question of why draft Clark if you don’t want her to be your point guard? Caitlin runs the offense and shoots off the dribble. She’s never been a catch and shoot player. Allow Clark to be herself, logo 3’s and all before you try to reinvent her. Bluder had confidence in Clark, this coach isn’t even giving Caitlin a chance to win her confidence. What NONSENSE is her rule. “I told Caitlin she has point 5 seconds to shoot” seriously? You know better than Caitlin how she should shoot? The coach is in her head and it is negatively affecting Clark’s performance. Coach has to work this out or pay the price for her failures.! I wasn't expecting Fever to win any of their 1st 4 games. I was just expecting Clark to get some pts (15-20) & assist (5-7), but more importantly I expected them to actually play their top PG as the PG & let her lead with her fast paced style. The non-delusional CC fans, knew she wouldn't win out of the gate, besides their stacked early schedule, CC would need to adjust to the tougher defense of the WNBA. Honestly CC did well considering. She had 9pts, the most assists on her team at 6, the most rebounds tied w/ Boston at 7 & a steal despite the heavy coverage from NY early on & only getting 8 attempts to shoot. They will never figure out how to play with their new point guard if you don't let her play PG,
Wheeler is a problem. Even the commentators called out her ignoring CC & i saw CC getting frustrated with it too. But Wheeler is Sides favorite player, so I don't know is she will bench her. The only time they got on even a little roll was in the last two minutes of the 2nd & 3rd quarter when CC had the ball & Wheeler was on the bench.

There are fundamental flaws with her team and I don’t love her coach but that should have been the expectation because she’s the #1 overall pick. You have players learning entirely new roles and a coach trying to figure out the best way to free up Clark. Those claiming it’s to just mimic Iowa are being obtuse and not recognizing that the competition is significantly better. Against Laney and other physical defenders Clark will struggle to get free and actually open on offense. Playing her more off ball and trying to get her the ball in matchups where she has a physical advantage is smart. They didn’t execute properly but Clark can’t just be the point guard 100% of the time. They need to find an actual balance for her game on offense

IMO, Clark isn't as talented or WNBA-ready as her popularity suggests. However, I do disagree with one thing.... Clark can't play pissed. She can't show frustration. That's a sign of weakness that opponents will seize upon. I understand that she's captured the imagination of millions of people and that the WNBA needs her because of her popularity. But it is totally unrealistic to think that she can immediately dominate in the WNBA as she did at Iowa. The WNBA has humbled a whole lot of dominant college players. Many of them have or are now thriving at the pro level. But it took them some time. Like Stephen Curry, Clark comes into the Association with no physical advantages. It took him several years to develop into a dominant player. Whether you want to believe it or not, it's going to be the same with Clark.

This is absolutely a coaching failure. It is, at base level, a failure of properly preparing a team for a season. Every player on the team is physically outmatched by their opposition. Boston cannot compete inside with the other bigs in the league who she is supposed to match. The wings are getting pushed off their spots. They cannot fight through screens while their opponents are slicing through at will. Boston is unable to set an effective pick to free up Clark. And Clark herself is facing constant double and triple teams every time she holds the basketball. Opposing teams are able to do this because they know Clark's teammates have no ability to make them pay for doubling her up. Clark can be the entire team's sole defensive focus. No one can succeed under those conditions. I understand the idea of cutting down on Clark's turnovers by having someone else handle the point, but this strategy hamstrings Clark's best attribute (her court vision) and does nothing to address the actual problem - they are simply not physically powerful enough to overcome the opposition - Boston specifically. Therefore, they cannot stop anyone, or get any rebounds, or run any transition offense. I also am sick of hearing the excuse of "they need time to gel, they aren't used to each other." This is not acceptable. Clark may be new to the roster, but no one else is. They've had a year or more to play with each other, and while Clark may be Basketball Mozart, she's not delivering passes from outer space. She finds the open person. The problem is that no one is strong enough to get open looks, and on the rare occasion that they do, they aren't coached well enough to be ready for the pass when it comes.
This is complete organizational failure - the roster is way too small, and that's on the GM. The roster is way too weak, and that is on the coaching staff. And yes - some of this is absolutely on Clark - but she has not been set up for success at all and the organization is letting her down. Get the entire team into the weight room and lock the door until someone can set a pick, or make the opposition pay when they triple team Clark right off the inbound.

    • @captaincune
      @captaincune 20 дней назад

@@diligent1580 This just doesn't comport with reality. Yes, Boston was ROTY last year, a unanimous pick, and an All Star starter last year. She was also outclassed and outmuscled badly in both games she has played so far this year. I've already given several examples of this, and how she just in general isn't competitive right now. I agree that Clark's defense needs to improve, but it is by no means bad and it certainly isn't at the top of the priority list in terms of things to fix. Your contention of "these ladies are elite and in shape" is simply not true. They are physically outclassed in every way. Every single one of them, including Clark, and the fact that they are physically outmatched means that they cannot do anything to be competitive on the court. Once again, lock every single player, including Clark, in the gym and don't let them out until they figure this out.
Remind me again what rules Clark is asking the refs to change? Your imagination is doing a lot of work there.

Bad games will happen especially coming off a long college season and not having a physical advantage against who she is up against. CC will be fine. Gotta work on her game cause there are holes in it offensively like no floater or no step back to the right 3.
Defenders are loading up on her left. I'm concerned about her body language at times. A vet needs to tell her not to show obvious frustration. The other team sees that.

    Fever ‘issues’
    1. No rebounding. They don’t box out, their opponents have far too many additional chances to score.
    2. No pace. They do not run the floor well. Boston is out of shape, their transition defense is terrible.
    3. No offensive style or game plan. They always look confused and hesitant with the ball, everybody waiting for somebody else to do something. This causes turnovers.

Boston is just getting down the court when they are heading back the other way. They have no plays to help CC run the offense. No one looks or watching for the ball, and they couldn't catch the ball anyway. CC needs to fire the ball at there heads a few times to get them to wake up and watch the plays. It would only take a couple times for the ball to bounce off there heads before they start looking. Sides needs to be gone, and Lin Dunn needs to be gone too if she continues this to happen

The coach literally said that Clark can't "dance around" or "shoot those deep 3's". That's like telling Allen Iverson to stop showboating his crossover shake & bake moves and telling Steph Curry to stop shooting from 27-feet. It's literally telling Clark that the amazing talent that she is is her "problem". Iowa's Lisa Blunder just retired from a head coaching job which paid her $1.4 million!! Geno at UConn is the highest paid NCAA coach and he makes about $2.5 million a year. Facts - 1. CC is Indiana's best player! 2. The team as a whole, including the coach, is not that good. Caitlin has to go through a learning and improvement stage but she is not the only one.
What happens to Indiana during the remainder of this season depends primarily on the coach. 1. Think about what you say to the press if you want to keep the player's morale up. 2. The Bigs on the team need more individual guidance on ball handling, faking moves around the basket, more conditioning and Boxing Out which goes for all players. 3. Build the offense around Caitlin!

The NBA has been losing money by subsidizing this league for years. The NBA finally has a chance to recoup their money invested. If these ladies think the NBA will allow them to prevent that from happening they are sadly mistaking. If that is the case, these ladies will find out the hard way. By trade or but cut the NBA will not let this money making opportunity slip away. She is playing against players now that are at higher level than the average college player. Clark is going thru an adjustment process. I think that she will get better with every game. Both she and her teammates are still learning each other. They have barely been together for a month. The Fever are also playing the best WNBA teams at the beginning of their schedule. People need to calm down and let the team bonding process play out. There are too many Clark fans that don't remember a few subpar games from Clark during her Iowa days. They happened during regular season on the road games in the Big Ten while playing elite Teams. That was just playing against good college teams with good game plans. Clark needs to learn to move without the ball instead of pitching a tent and watching when she doesn't have it. However, I think this was a better game on her part and am encouraged by it. Yes the turnovers were way down, she had 6 assists that should have been 9, her usage percentage was down to reasonable rookie levels, and her ball movement in general was way better this game. The first game was basically her college game with the same shots and the same holding the ball: 41% usage rate, 15 x 3pt attempts, occational laps in ball security... (bad defense). The game against the Sun is exactly what her college play looks like at the WNBA level. The game against the Liberty she missed some shots she'll make eventually, Boston had a horrible game and that hurts guards when bigs fail epically, but Caitlin was allowing her teammate to try and make plays rather than every play having to be made by her. When she learns to pass and go away then come back instead of standing there wanting the pass to come straight back to her she will be much more effective and will get more looks. This is a place she can move forward from, I was worried after her first game but now I think she'll slowly improve and start to get up to the Pro level.
I think to be elite her defense really needs to get better. That end of the court isn't their to rest. She probably will never be a shut down defender but she can become a competent team defender. Same thing happened to Curry when he entered the league, now while he is in no way a lock down defender he's pretty good at angles, lanes and leverage.
