It’s Amazing how differently us cake lovers work…That Mickey looks FANTASTIC…for me I would go crazy with such tedious work I always prefer to make 3D characters…However, you did make this look so easy with your breakdown so, I just might give it a try. Also, I added the Heath candy crumbs to my buttercream and it was a crazy major hit…Keep sharing you are greatly appreciated.
Can you please make a video about your cakes lifespan? If you haven't already. I tried to bake two small cakes and kept one in the fridge and another one out for a few days so I can experiment the change of taste and texture throughout the days but my family ate them on the 8th day and they were still fresh🤣❤️
I don't have a lifespan video, but here's a video explaining my timeline. I made a cake for my boyfriend's birthday and it was still good 9 days later! A lot of people think cake goes bad after 1 day and it's just not true. I'm sure certain cakes don't last long, but the ones I make do LOL! ruclips.net/video/5Z985L46mHc/видео.html
After watching you do this for so long I find myself going “now to smooth the cuts” 😂 I’ve been doing this trace method after seeing you do it and I love it! Idk why I never thought to do it!
Thank for this detailed tutorial. From your experience, how long will this keep? I want to make ahead and attach to the birthday cake which is not due for another 3 weeks.
It should be okay sitting for 3 weeks! If you want it to dry flat, just leave it on a cutting board. It will dry nice and hard and wont break as you handle it. If you want it to dry with a curve so it can contour to the cake, you can let it sit on the side of a cake dummy the same size as the cake you'll be placing it on.
Lol! "Wooter" If ya know, ya know! I was born and raised in Levittown, mom and dad raised in Philly, my grandma was within walking distance of Nashaminy mall my other grandma was in Bensalem. Wooter and Dooter. If ya know, ya know! Hugs from Donna Tokazowski @ Cake Hatteras
Hello sweetheart, I'm new to your channel. And I just love you, I just watched the Mickey video and I think your amazing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Sandy
Hi Karolyn. Do you need to use Tylose powder in your fondant? Will Gum paste not work the same? Nobody eats it anyway. Or is it because you use mashmallow fondant? PS. Love your videos!
Hey Chris! You can use gumpaste. The only thing is, it dries out really quick. And it's more expensive to buy that than to make the fondant and add the Tylose. So it's personal preference! The gumpaste could dry too hard and be prone to cracking as well.
Wow that was pretty cool to cut that out on the black my eyes would have been bugging, I would have needed a bright light on Mickey to see. I am so lucky to still be near sighted no reading glasses or bifocals so far 🤗. Excellent skills and your shading techniques pretty good too, not trying to be bossy and this is only from how some of Mickey's shading has a blue/gray hue around his gloves unless it's just my eyes, your Mickey looks so perfect like I said only my perspective ☮️
I bake in 2" high pans, when I do 1/2 sheet 2" high, I need 2 batches of the cake batter. Do you have a 3" high pan? If so, you may need 2.5 - 3 batches!
You are extremely talented Karolyn! Your mind works just fine and it's a very smart one. Thanks for sharing your gifts with the world and I love your fall nail colors!
I literally did a LIVE in my FB group last night showing in detail how to make a Minnie face! Access to my FB group is available through the CUPCAKE tier of my membership, here's the link in case you want to check it out! www.buymeacoffee.com/karolynskakes/membership
At the beginning you had gathered your tools and I couldn't help but notice that you are using a sewing/ hem gauge my Mom kept one in her sewing basket too.
There's links in the description for the tools I used. For the shirts, they should be below the video (scroll down) or under the merchandise or shopping tabs!
I've had someone order a gelatin free fondant cake before and I used Wilton fondant. I don't like working with store bought fondant because it is very soft, but I made it work! There are recipes for non gelatin fondant on here, but I've never made any of them, so unfortunately I'm not sure what to recommend.
Yup! I don't use as much because I don't want it to be too hard. However, it helps smooth out the fondant so I always add a little bit! (About 1 tsp per pound).
Again Karolyn, you’re a great teacher! Making some 2d fondant decorations now and needed a refresher. Everyone has been asking for those fancy tall 6” cakes so this is only the second cake I’ve done with 2d fondant work. I have done a few with 3d fondant decorations and loved it😁 Although more time consuming, I much prefer cakes like you do with the fondant decorations over the fancy cakes with only frosting and drips and flowers/sprinkles. I got into cakes because I liked decorating them, not because I love to bake lol.
I’ve seen you do so many videos on cutting images out of fondant. It’s always amazing to watch and you make the process look effortless, although I know you spent years perfecting your techniques. Love your work and videos.😊
Do you mean the small paint brush I dip in the water? I get them at Michael's craft store: www.michaels.com/product/12-pack-softgrip-angular-brush-MP329556
If you enjoy my tutorials, I'd be so grateful if you could Buy Me A Coffee! ☕🙏

It is blueish grey, black was just an easier option. It doesn’t have to be exact, just similar!
Love love love 💕 your hair color.
Wow just simply amazing skills. You make everything look so easy. Enjoy your channel thanks for always sharing.
Thank you! It's a little dark for me, but it will fade in a few weeks LOL
Hi Karolyn I love watching your videos and I have learned so much. Thank you
How many recipes would I need for a half sheet cake that’s 3”high?
I bake in 2" high pans, when I do 1/2 sheet 2" high, I need 2 batches of the cake batter. Do you have a 3" high pan? If so, you may need 2.5 - 3 batches!
I'm preparing to make a Mickey Mouse clubhouse cake today. Watching your video for tips. ❤😊
You got this girl! 🙌
You are extremely talented Karolyn! Your mind works just fine and it's a very smart one. Thanks for sharing your gifts with the world and I love your fall nail colors!
Thank you so much! And I love my nails too!! 🙌
Thank you so much for sharing your process! I am not the biggest fan of working with fondant, but watching your videos has been extremely helpful!
Wow, adding that shading was a great idea!! That came out perfect. I came here for a demo because I am doing Minnie for a Birthday Cake.

Wow amazing job, I wonder how long it will take to do that, you are my inspiration to do a better job with ny cakes.
Thanks 🙏❤
Oh my goodness Karolyn it is beautiful. I have trouble learning how to measuring on the computer the correct size for the cake.
I use MIcrosoft Word. And there are rulers on the top and the sides that show you how big you're printing everything out!
You’re work is amazing.
At the beginning you had gathered your tools and I couldn't help but notice that you are using a sewing/ hem gauge my Mom kept one in her sewing basket too.
Yes! I use that for stacking my cakes!
I will try this with Minnie, my niece loves Minnie. I don't know how to order you merchandise, that is, I can't find the link
There's links in the description for the tools I used. For the shirts, they should be below the video (scroll down) or under the merchandise or shopping tabs!
Great job, love all the details.
Do you ever have copyright issues with characters that are super recognizable like this one?
If you sell licensed characters, you're taking a risk!
Beautiful, you are very talented
Excellent tutorial 👏👏👏Thank you very much 😘
Glad you liked it!
♥️ this Mickey 2D tutorial!..Thank you!♥️
It came out out so cute n just like the pic
What determines whether you make an image out of fondant or print it on the edible printer?
Fondant work looks more professional (IMO). It's up to the customer as to what aesthetic they are going for!
Very Nice, Great Job!
I love it. Can you do more like this? Because I live listening to you.
Making a note of it!
Thanks love your work and techniques that you share with us😊
Wow!! Amazing your very talented 💕
Thank you honey!
Very nice do have a recommendation for non gelatin fondant
I guess animal free
😊

@@KarolynsKakes thanks for your help I love your channel 🙂☺️🎉
Do you put tylose powder if you use it to cover a cake? Thanks
Yup! I don't use as much because I don't want it to be too hard. However, it helps smooth out the fondant so I always add a little bit! (About 1 tsp per pound).

What water brush do you use?
Do you mean the small paint brush I dip in the water?
I get them at Michael's craft store:

How long can you store the Mickey for?
I should have waited until the end of the video. My question would have been answered.
I wouldn't store him longer than 3-4 days because even wrapped up, he can start to dry out.
I love your technique!
I could watch you do this all day!
Love love your channel
Alba! Thank you!! 😊
Super cute💕👍
