Reading some of these comments as an American lets me know just how differently racism is viewed in other countries. Previously when anything like this has happened in America, people have come out of the woodwork to defend the person who made the racist comment, either by saying the person didn't say it, or by saying the comment wasn't actually racist. You have some people in America who spend more time accusing black people of making racist (sexist, homophobic, antisemitic) comments than they do admitting the racist words and actions of white Americans (and other non black Americans) towards black people. So I'm glad to see so many comments taking the right side of this issue, and hope that one day we get to the same point in America.

    • @jaxjax1733
      @jaxjax1733 2 года назад

What part of America are you from dude? North? Central? Or south? The first thing is to come out of the woodwork and stop calling yourself an American. Because America is a whole continent. Containing different regions. I’m not being racist. Just picking on a point that you people should stop calling your self American. Specially when you are commenting on a racist subject. Eddie is an awesome player, but more than a player. He is an awesome guy… if u happen to be commenting on being from the US then you should refer as that. Not an American. Ignorance also plays a part of confusion when expressing a thought. Just saying. Good day partner. :)

It's ironic. When I was on deployment in 2002, there were so many highly educated Black USAF personnel. Yet some aspects of the US portray Black people as criminals, without question. One Tech SGT my mate (black Mauritian/Australian) and I got to know was a degree computer specialist. I was amazed how many non-commissioned US pers were so highly educated. The computer specialist guy, who'd incidently failed me in an elec comms exam (which is how I got to know him) was super. A great ambassador for your country, not in a patriotic way, but diplomatic. I learned so much from him about humanity in general. I had such a positive experience from that deployment, that when I later heard about all the shootings and violence, I was shocked. I thought that had all but disappeared with the 1960s. In reality, I have come to not accept, but see how the world really is. Nazism was scary. Bolshevism a disaster. Colonialism mass murder. And everyone turns a blind eye to their own backyard, whilst pointing the bone everywhere else.

Well said mate. We all should remember, that according to the science of anthropology we are ALL mates having originated from Sub-Saharan Africa over 100,000 years ago. Our ancestors have ALL arrived in different countries at different times throughout our human history but we are none the less Australian, American, Canadian & Kiwi...etc so we need to drop the racism we are all simply humans and we need to have a unity of vision for our future, this means the ability to objectively determine what is in our collective self interest for the optimal flourishing of our well being, that of animals & the environment. To date the best methodology at our disposal for arriving at any objectivity is *'SCIENCE'*
*_"I feel ashamed and I should be."_* we all make mistakes!!! If anything is true today we ALL have some degree of mental illness, Taylor is an example of this as are we all to some degree. We have a pandemic today worse than the virus and that is a growing lack of *_immunity to offense taking_* & the reason for this proclivity to offense taking is a lack of nurturing of values in our society such as love, compassion, empathy & kindness. I'll attempt to explain myself, I did volunteer work at a mental health institute(I highly recommend it & no I wasn't institutionalized although the wife thinks I should be...lol....joke;) and sometimes the residents would curse me out call me a bastard, my mother a prostitute...etc all kinds of things, you get the idea, did I get upset feel offended NO, of course not, why, *_because these people were mentally ill what they needed from me was compassion, empathy, kindness & love, so this is how we should see all the world's people, knowing that the kind of mind they have to live with 24/7 must be so intolerable, I really felt sorry for these people, and especially Taylor._* In short I am unoffendable thanks to having a community where values such as love, compassion, empathy & kindness were nurtured.

Here’s an idea: no more “white”, no more “black” , no more “indigenous” etc. As soon as it has a name, it becomes a thing. It becomes a thing that can be hated or loved and face discrimination and judgement from the other sides - because we’re categorising race by giving them a team name.
Instead of looking at someone like an “indigenous footy player” look at him only as a “footy player”. Don’t look at him as a “black man”, just a “man”.
It will go a long way in helping stamp out the foundations of racism for all racist people - racist “white” people, and racist “black” people, and racist “indigenous” people.
    ------------
So Eddie, I hope that when you say “educate”, I hope you mean “educating” ALL people that racism against anyone is not alright and must be called out. Not just against indigenous people. That would be pretty racist in and of itself and pretty self serving and promotes a race divide that further separates the races. All races must been seen as equal and educated as equal.

You do know your grandparents grew up in the most racist time in Australia. They benefited from the racism? How??
Well they got to have jobs, earn money, buy a house and land. Your parent were allowed to go all the way through school if they wanted. Your parents got to stay with their parents. The women in your family were less likely to be raped because they were white. Multiple people in your family were able to get jobs, earn money and buy homes and land.
Aboriginal families did not have this advantage. If a Aboriginal man had a job “if”. He was paid less or with tobacco and flour or sugar. He was not allowed to buy a house, not able to buy land. Families split up from Stolen Generation policies. Little Aboriginal boys and girls were raped till they got too old. Aboriginal women were used by any white man for their pleasure. About 54 years ago Aboriginal People were recognised as human and not flora and fauna. Counselling services was never available to Aboriginal people back then. So alcohol was the only thing to numb the pain.

@@Escekar First of all I noticed you never mentioned the word "WHITE" so you have put me in the "White privilege" column which is racist on it's own. Very little of what you said fits into general history. My grandparents NEVER benefited from Racism and never had their own house and we have just worked and worked. Most people Never went all the way through school as they had to get a Job to support the family. If children from ANY family were abused they were taken from their family. Plenty of "WHITE" children were beaten by parents and at school including myself. White girls were less likely to get raped because men were taught it's the wrong thing and had more respect for them. Even today, there are many Aboriginal rapes perpetrated by their own family. Any white person that lives in a filthy home will make news but NEVER is there any video or news of Aborigines that choose to live like animals. There are "BILLIONS" spent on them every year and it is never enough. The only way to stop this is to STOP blaming todays generations for the actions of people in the past as that is promoting segregation. The country said sorry and has been paying for it ever money and the truth of that consequence will never be made public. No one will ever hear a "THANKYOU" from any of them for what they get now. They HATE white people and that's a fact because of the constant bombardment of the media including bullshit channels like this that only keeps it all going. Eddie Betts is one person who should be saying thankyou like ALL the other players that earn huge money for playing a game. He is one of the elite and privileged but wants everyone to think he's hard done by.

Next is the 30 billion. I’ve seen how the money is spent and it never gets handed down to the Aboriginal people. It’s mainly absorbed into private companies who make a profit and don’t pay Tax’s to the Australian Gov. it’s paid the government department to create gov jobs for white people, it’s paid the government schemes, many of them are for the wider community. And it get spent before ever reaching Aboriginal people.
My grandparents were born 125 years ago, their parents were here when the shooting started. That’s not long ago at all. Especially when you talk about economics. Aboriginal people have only had about 54 years of being able to start to rebuild themselves. That’s your lifetime. To go from slaves to Psychiatric practitioners. At the end of this year there will be over 300 Aboriginal Psychiatrists graduating from University all over Australia. There are 1000’s of Aboriginal healthcare workers, childcare workers and justice system workers. You called yourself a White Privileged person, and I agree. As for Aboriginal History, do some learning. Every aboriginal had a similar story about history. Are you saying they are All liars? Let’s see how bigger hole you dig for yourself?
Racism is real. It come from a historic background. And most of the surnames of Aboriginal People came from the white people who were the rapers and abusers. But you educated yourself. It’s not my job to teach you. But I can comment on you because we are in a public forum..

You are also saying that ALL the money is spent before ever reaching Aboriginal people. You know that is not true. How many people in England were taken from their families for stealing a piece of bread to survive and brought here as prisoners to work and die. That is a lot of white history that is not recognised as not important and irrelevant in todays stories. You just can't keep justifying bad actions by a minority and keep hating all white people that had history here. Racism is a two way street but seems to be only recognised as one way. When I was moving to Darwin, I heard so much negative cheap talk about Aboriginals in the NT. Whilst traveling from Adelaide through the NT, I saw nothing but positive behavior and friendliness. Even in Alice, whilst some of the people in the street were loud, If you meet them with a smile and say hello, there is a good response. If you're negative, avoiding and approaching/passing with a scowl on your face, you'll get the same back and let's face it, most whities have had next to nothing to do with their indigenous brothers, so what right do they have to look down on Aboriginal people? Whilst living in Rosebery (near Palmerston) I used to cycle to work at Robertson Barracks. Along the cycle paths were many indigenous people. Sometimes they slept on the cycle way and at first I thought it a bit of a pain, but after some time, I used to high 5 them and have a bit of a chat/laugh as I passed either am or pm. I umpired AFL in the NTFL as well. The culture there is magic. To be surrounded by so many Riolies...Sorry Eddie (just kidding You're the best) is just fantastic! I wish everyone could experience the Territory and all it's beauty.
There is one sickening trait among some humans. They are too lazy or too scared to become involved in anything positive. It seems easier for some to grab hold of negative aspects to make other people look bad to make themselves look good. I see it as an umpire reasonably often. People ask.."Why would anyone want to be an umpire?" "You cop abuse all the time." That's as maybe, but it's from pathetic minorities among supporters. Most players and officials are positive about all aspects of footy. So, why would I want to umpire? I'm too old to play, never was much good at it, but to have a positive contribution to a sport I love. To be out on the field involved in the game, rain sleet and scorching sun. Involved with development of kids and women. To be among the game and not just a lost sole on the sidelines. Maybe if some of those people put on some boots and stepped over the sideline with a whistle or flags, toughing out the freezing wind or the scorching sun, building character, they would become better people.

It’s sad to still see racism in AFL we should celebrate aboriginal Australians they play the game how it should be played technically, spiritually just all round pure talent, so sad see racism in football especially against the first Australians , imagine the game without the first Australians they derserve so much respect ❤❤
