The fact that no countries r bidding on Olympic Games anymore just shows you the cost isn’t worth the return anymore in a world of hyper inflation. Screw the Olympics. They r not even a big deal anymore like they were 20 years ago

The football tournaments would be played in different cities. It happened in Sydney. And as of the bid I thought it was a “SE Queensland bid” any of these events can be situated in Gold Coast. Surely you’d plan this once prior to the bid.

Don’t understand why these games were not over budgeted for before the Brisbane bid was put forward. Plus why do new Stadium cost so much more in Brisbane to build then the two recent built stadiums in Perth and Sydney.
Victoria Park Stadium Precinct would have been the best solution - but if they are going for QASC QE2 stadium renovations - I hope they get it right in the design. (remember these Summer games will be held in Winter and rain and cold needs to be put in as a factor of the design) 2032 stadium should not just have a bandaid fix to the facilities - if u are going to use old facilities and stadiums u need to renovate them correctly and high standards.

Having worked on 7 international events (4 Olympics, 1 comm games, 1 Asian Games, 1 Rugby world cup), can I just say that the pattern is always the same. Efforts to get the games and celebration, when it's awarded then when the honeymoon is over, realisation of what it means. Concern over the costs and doubts as to whether that was the right decision. Eventually the event goes forward and then It's the best thing that ever happened for that city. It's always the same at every event I worked on except perhaps the Asian Games in Doha but there were other challenges. But yes, those huge events cost money and there are things built and then destroyed and perhaps there could be a situation where there are 5 (+-) cities who host these games and rotate between them. One has to remember that the national team always gets a boost from hosting the games so in effect are advantaged and in that scenario, the same countries would get that boost.

In my opinion, the best case scenario for everyone involved is to have the Olympics held in two cities one in the Northern Hemisphere and one in the Southern Hemisphere and have either city alternate in hosting the games each Olympic year, the two hosting cities should be Athens and Sydney.
Greece and Australia are the only two nations in the world to compete at every single edition of the Olympic Games and should be rewarded as such by having Athens and Sydney be the permanent hosts of the Olympics in those two countries.
What makes this idea even better is that it'd incentivise the IOC to financially contribute to the overall cost of the infrastructure needed to host the games and would, in theory, provide both countries with permanent economic stability through the tourism and exposure that comes with hosting the games.
Will it happen? No, it won't as countries like the USA and China would have something to say about that, but with the substantial cost of hosting the games and that cost continuing to grow, it might become the only viable option, or the other option is to have the Olympics held within a whole country rather than a just a single city or region.
The QLD State Government and the Federal Government both need to pull their socks up and start making some decisions on what to do regarding a venue for the Opening/Closing Ceremonies and the Athletic events, and make a decision on how to properly accommodate the influx of athletes and visitors that will be in attendance for the games.

I think Los Angeles should be the permanent home of both the Olympics and World Cup Soccer Final. There is no better Olympics stadium than the legendary Los Angeles Coliseum, all the other venues are fabulous. Also the equally legendary the Rose Bowl should host the World Cup Soccer final, as it did in 1994. Lol, Sydney is a hick town compared to Los Angeles. The USA has won by far the most medals in Olympic history, and it has the most storied Olympic team.

Brisbane started making that bid way back in the 1990's when Sally Ann Atkinson was lord mayor . Since then Labour had been power with the exception of 1996 and 2012 with 5 premiers at the helm . Goss, Beattie, Bligh, Palaszczuk and now Miles. This bid was made during the pandemic and before the 13 reserve bank rate rises in which none of that was planned . It tells me all governments are running out of money faster than Flash Gordon pissing on his foot. Miles is getting as bad as a GM executive chasing money while the feds are letting the big end of town making the level of government look like laughing stock.

Thats the whole point of having the games in regional centres,so as not to put too much pressure on Brisbane or the Gold Coast ,a Brisbane venue is mainly for the opening and closing ceremonies and perhaps most track and field athletics ,most athletes dont/wont attend because of next day commitments in different venues around Qld regional centres . The beatup by Murdoch's corrupted AUS MSM over the games while theyve been attacking QLD over cost of living pressures will continue right up to the State Election .Todays athletes (not yesterday's) and Olympic bosses have already said theyre focused on their participation not the politics !! 😎🤓🤠☻😜
