Great video....And now we will hear from all the experts claiming she had the wrong bike.....I really believe her only issue was travelling without more a more aggressive tread pattern. A GS is a heavy bike, and it looks like she "washed out " the front end. People need to remember that the GS has done more overlanding miles in its 50 year history than any other bike made. Good luck Henriette, long time rider here...subscribed!!

OMG, I felt so sorry for Sonja. I cannot imagine how she could hold her spirit up in all that pain. I happy to hear that she is back in the saddle again. This was a really sad video, but also one of your best. Big thanks Henriette!!!
Well Henriette, this was one of your very best videos, with all the excitement, drama and tension of a Hollywood movie. For all those who have romantic notions of riding around Africa, thinking it will all be a breeze, it is a sobering reminder of the real dangers out there. It also shows just how important it is to have help from fantastic people, at times when you are at your lowest point. I am so happy that Sonja has bounced back so well from that awful day. Great video.
A huge salute to Henriette for surprising me with this master piece created from 100G footage. Even with the pain and devastation still a journey of a life time with an angel-riding-buddy. Huge respect for sticking with me until I was on a plane back to South Africa.
@@sonjahanekom4648 Totally agree Sonja, she makes her videos so well and they are a `must see` for me. This is one of her very best. I am pleased that your recovery is well on the way. Long live tarmac 🤗
Watching this episode was truely Heart warming in regards to the help from complete strangers. It also took me back to a very similar incident, me on my 300 Rally and a friend on his 650 V-strom Suzuki. travelling the desert areas of Victoria Australia, he dropped the bike in heavy sand and fractured his Tibia 3 ways. But compared to what you and Sonja have had to endure our trip was a walk in the park. I have full admiration for You and Sonja. Maybe if I remind myself that I am 66 and my friend is 71 i can be proud of our walk in the park. Cheers from Down Under..
Without a doubt, Sonja is an extremely brave and resilient woman. I can't imagine the extreme discomfort and ongoing pain, not to mention and to paraphrase the owner of this Vlog... "A very hard pill to swallow for someone who was on her journey of life'". A chapter like life itself; It surprises you sometimes and whatever happens to you, you take it in the best possible way. @Cristián De La Rosa, Indeed a bitter pill, but we were doing what we love - solo riding on the open road. Henriette more adventurous - myself more on the 'safer' routes, but a simple life style yet so rewarding on so many levels.
Thank you Henriette for yet another masterpiece of a video. Too sad Sonja had an accident but thankfully she is well and riding again. I look forward to more videos of all the beautiful places you have been.
Another nice video that was a pleasure to watch, despite Sonja's crash. Your positive attitude surely helped her to swallow this bitter pill. I think the bike really crashed very hard and then she was lucky to 'only' have one knee hurt. It could have been a disaster, now it is just an (unwanted) part of both your adventures! And the smile of the boy selling peanuts when you asked him to push that buttom was great. I follow lots of moto-vloggers but your attitude toward the locals is fatastic and an exaple to all visiting these nice countries!
Great video and hats-off to everyone for their help. Sonja was actually quite lucky that she had solid panniers and that they held. If the bike had gone down directly on her leg instead of the pannier it would have been in a couple of pieces. That’s the problem with heavy adventure bikes; I’ve seen it before even with experienced off-roaders. Best thing to do before trying to pick it up is to remove the top box and pannier. Takes a lot of weight away. Also it’s a lesson to never ride dirt roads on road tyres. You might get away with it but if you don’t it’s going to end badly. The dirt roads in Africa can change quickly from solid to loose pack/sand to ruts to mud (I’ve travelled them many times), and the front end can wash away very quickly with the wrong tyres on. You’ve got the perfect bike for the journey. I love the Honda CRF ‘L’ range. 👌
Really nice video and so many things learned. Sonja lost a good ride but you guys won new friends. The crash just added a new story of what is called experience. I'm glad she's back on a bike, and with a new bike. Seeing all the damages in that bmw show the bike really rolled yet it started right off one click. Bmw 👍 💕
Im really sorry and hope she will get well soon, BTW hard panniers break legs. When I was in motor school, for law enforcement, they would yell at us for putting a foot down. Basically, if the bike is going down, keep your feet on the foot pegs and let it go down. Trying to put a foot down and saving it, may cause your leg to get sucked back under the pannier. soft bags are recommended highly
I'm glad Sonja was able to recover. Torn ligaments take some time to heal. This could happen to anybody. Things happen so fast. I'm glad she's ok. Thanks Henriette!
Kudus to you girls for sticking it out to the camp. So sorry for Sonja. My concern is the vulnerability if the accident had happened in a park with lions and little traffic.

Not sure. I would have done that road on a sportsbike 😆
@@ForTheLoveOfWheels plenty of lighter adv bikes
While I agree with you, it was the bike she had and the ride was probably a one off for her so she made do, I'd love to take my tenere 700 to a motorcross track just once for shits and giggles even though it's totally not designed for it. sometimes if you want to do a job you just use the tool you have available .Would suck to try to lift that thing though. Also that looked like a pretty easy road.
@@silverdale3207 Exactly, It's not like you travel with a trailer with bikes for each surface. Besides this road could have been done on any bike with any tires. It was just bad luck. People crash on a sunny day on perfect asfalt.
Wait Who drinks urine. Why is that
Don't take everything I say seriously 😆 It was just yellow and looked like urine. Besides in the old days, kings would drink their morning urine as they believed it had a lot of health benefits. But just a joke!
