    Disposition lyrics: (Reflection lyrics below)
    [Verse]
    Mention this to me
    Mention something, mention anything
    Watch the weather change
    Reflection lyrics:
    [Verse]
I have come curiously close to the end, though
    Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole
    Defeated
    I concede and
    Move closer
    Let me find comfort here
I may find peace within the emptiness
    How Pitiful
    It's calling me
And in my darkest moment, feeble and weeping
The moon tells me a secret, a confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me
Its source is bright and endless
    She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting
And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
You want to peer down here survey my narcissism
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out
    Before I pine away
    Before I pine away
    Before I pine away
    Before I pine away
So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
And leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable
So let the light touch you so that the words spill through
And let the past break through, bringing out our hope and reason
    Before we pine away
    Before we pine away
    Before we pine away
    Before we pine away

One hour in when KORN was mentioned in the same breath as Tool I will admit that I almost vomited. I like KORN but they are what I consider "Pop metal." Tool is on another level. Once Tool made the transition from "Undertow" to "Aenima" and "Lateralus" they left bands like Korn in the dust. I don't care how many albums Korn sells or how popular they are. Korn sucks compared to Tool.

Disposition and Reflection along with many other songs on this album played a significant part at getting me through the darkest days of life.Literally nothing would help me overcome my depression/panic attacks besides being alone outside while listening to songs like this.Like the great Bob Marley said in a song "The great thing about music,is when it hits you feel no pain." Even though i felt so alone in that point in my life, these songs somehow made me realize that I was definitely NOT alone in what I was going through.I think Maynard and Tool understand human spirituality and human suffering better than any other band. I am forever grateful to this band! 🤘🤘

Wow. Yes. I am in the same boat my friend. My dark days follow me through the years. But Tool has always been there to remind me.
Don't bother wasting your time holding grudges. We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion. Be Patient. Cherish relationships, bridge the gaps, heal the divides. Open your Eyes and see the world for what it is, in true color. Ride the spiral to the end, and then keep going. Change your disposition, watch the weather change. Then Reflect on who you are and where you want to be. and finally join the tribe around the fire in a wild dance and exaltation of mind, body and spirit, as the triad comes to a close. Oh and E.T.'s are probably a thing.

from "My darkest moment: fetal and weeping" to "As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own. A million light reflections pass over me."
Even this one song can be related to at the bottom, and be a beacon to rise up out of it and grow to being a reflector, a shining part of something greater than the self.

Disposition: a sense of despair, yearning for honest communication
Reflection: hitting bottom, and finding a light to guide you out, to show you the way to grow
Triad: an anger, an urge to create, make things better
Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss has a great perspective on anger as a healthy and necessary part of life. The creative urge, the desire to live and grow and leave a mark on the world. It also has a similar tale of a man speaking to the moon.

Reflection is such a unique song. it ties with Lateralus as my all time favorite Tool song. I think it gets overlooked too much. I always hear about The Pot and Sober and Schism, but Reflection - it's an adventure into the mind and the soul that few other songs are capable of.

Watch this again, notice how Sori's eyes are moving non-stop thinking and feeling. Vin's eyes are very focused on one spot, move to another spot for a while still focused and intent...
Both of them are feeling the music and loving it, because it's TOOL so of course they are. But somewhere in there the experience is different.

Keep in mind the record company forces track separations. That way they can sell an album with "x" number of songs to promote value. Who knows what seperations between songs the band actually intended on this album. (Or the order) parabol/parabola? Come on. We all know it's one track. Maybe the whole album was supposed to be.

I was waiting for this reaction finally. “Reflection” is my favorite tool song ever. I always find myself coming back to this record whenever I feel down and egotistic. Amazing record. Though I think Dark Side of The Moon is far superior in terms of human emotion and struggle. You guys have to do the Wall later. It’s basically the epitome of concept albums. Helped me and million of other people to get over our metaphorical wall and self destruction. Sometimes I forget... Sometimes this world is all consuming... But on the lyrics pine away, it makes me feel like when we die, and our pineal gland has ejected our soul, we may go to a place far from here, a place that no one in this world can comprehend until they experience it themselves, and even then you may never be able to share it with those who have yet to step through the veil... The guitar at the end of reflection is beautiful yet haunting.
I find some sense of comfort thinking that even if it takes 10 trillion life times, I will come across my dearest loved ones every once in a while.

You know why you two work so well, at least from my perspective? It's more than just you guys are honest. Your dynamic is Sori not quite getting the song at first, then Vin saying what he thinks from both a world and biblical view, and then Sori comes back in and takes the conversation to a new level with an insight Vin hadn't thought of. It expends from there, and yes it goes on some wild tangents, but it all comes back to the work that inspired the conversation in the first place. And it's fun. I don't think either of you could be as successful doing this as you are together. Keep going. Vin, don't think of yourself as a side piece to "the Main Show". Sori might have her own string of shady followers, but this channel works best with both of you. Again, in my opinion. Love this!

About the song, It's not referred to as the Holy Trinity for nothing. From start to finish... The Grudge to Triad... By the end of the album he let go of the stone. This phase of the transformation completes. And if you might have seen my post to the Village yesterday, It's not just the grudge he let go of. It's who the grudge is tied to. For many years I thought it was his mother and her faith. I now think it was against God Himself. Culminates in 10,000 Days a few years later. My thought for the day. Thanks for this enlightening review and reaction. I know you will need to take a break from Tool for a while, but if you ever come back to it I think you may be surprised how the thought process of MJK changes over time. I've really appreciated this chance to reacquaint myself to and with it as you guys hear it for the first time.

Disposition - Reflection - Triad: Three separate tracks, making a "triad" of songs.
The ego is a contentious subject in metaphysics.
Eastern philosophy seeks to destroy the ego, since self-centeredness is the central problem in the world.
Once the ego is gone, you become part of all things, rather than an individual.
Western philosophy seeks to perfect the ego - maintaining individuality while observing the concepts of the Buddhist Eight-Fold Path (roughly).
This is why, symbolically, the ego is "crucified" - to be perfected by destroying the grosser parts, much as wheat is separated from chaff.
Also, you're using 'solipsism' incorrectly. Solipsism is believing that YOU are the only person that exists, essentially being self-centered.
The world view here is that of a unified collective mind, that "WE are one with all things", not "I am the only one that exists".

To witness something really special, watch the live performance of these 3 songs during the 2002 Lateralus tour. Disposition is played a little differently and it’s absolutely beautiful. Triad is played with other musicians and they rock the house. The audio quality is a little poor, but that’s because Tool refuses to put out live stuff (with the exception of Salival) so we have to rely on fan recordings. But still, so worth it

Before I move on to Triad, I gotta say...I know you guys are probably all Tool'ed out for a while...BUT you MUST listen to this album with Headphones. The best ones ya got. Trust me, the music is sublime either way, but when you can listen to the Mixing in stereo, right on your ears....It's truly deeper than you think.

She is so obviously so overcome by the strength of the music, she's using that hypnotic moment of clarity to analyze a whole bunch of superficially non-related, materially interrelated topics. I love that you know deeper insights. You bring broader understanding and personal tidbits from your own lives while understanding and comparing it to the music of Tool. Remember the name of the band is Tool. A tool is used to fix things. And you know what things they are going to fix. But the tool needs somebody to use it to fix things. That would be you and me, otherwise it's just sounds put together to no end.

Awesome reactions to this entire album! The depth of these lyrics still amazes me to this day, especially in "Reflection." You all nailed Maynard reflecting on himself, but I also appreciate a more literal take on the concept of looking beyond the initial image/appearance. He's directly talking about the moon, but the significance is what he's indirectly talking about: the Sun! "This light is not my own....Its source is bright and endless....Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting..."
I think this song starts in a very dark place, "I have come curiously close to the end" could be him considering killing himself, and the idea of that bringing comfort/peace pitiful. But with the help of the moon, he lifts himself out and looks beyond what he can see happening right in front of him. I think it helps him move from negative and cynical to ultimately hopeful.
......Or it's all just about drugs, who's to say.

You guys did such a great job with this album! I feel like it's going to be a minute before we get some new tool but I'm amazed that you made this happen! Reflection is one of my favorite songs on this album and says a lot about humanity in itself and that if we were to kill off a little of the ego we would eliminate a lot of wars. In my opinion the line regarding the moon is talking about the fact that we are all part of humanity and we all shine based on the light given to us by others and would be dark without the companionship of other humans. Just my opinion...

If you wanna make a reaction video for it that's cool but I just want you to listen to it either way, it's really trippy psychedelic trance music, I think you'd like it. Vin/Sori for all the times you guys thought these songs were connected to Maynards mom, how come you couldn't point out one of the most obvious: disposition? So much in this one line "mention this to me, something, anything... Watch the weather change" it's yurning for a moment of relief, to have his mother who is paralyzed to please say something, anything like the most trivial thing people say to each other "watch the weather change" because that's all she can do in her state, just watch the weather change... So beautiful, so haunting. It's up there in my top three tool songs.
(edit :I fell asleep on the couch do I didn't catch that you caught it) :-)

Triad also serves as a sort of traditional coda like you might find in a symphony. It brings around themes from throughout the record and also closes things out with a sort of controlled chaos thats a mirror to the end of Lateralus (the song). I wouldn't put this in my top 5, but certainly top 10.
Tool is very atypical prog. You don't have the traditional solos. The songs are more cohesive and precise. Where if you contrast that with Rush or Dream Theater you hear more virtuosity but sometimes along with that comes a distancing from the listener. Its hard to emotional connect with a song if its hyper technical, even if you are a musician. This isn't to say that Rush doesn't achieve this same sort of result with say 2112. I would say its similar or if anything 2112 is more cohesive as a concept album. But 2112 also is one song and has a more storylike format. The songs feel less like songs that perhaps some sort of rock opera. And that can be pretty hit or miss with some people. I personally love it. But some people need that traditional song structure and I think Tool manages to pull that off 90% of the time without compromising their musical integrity. They still have prog length songs, but they don't feel it. The one album that I think does surpass this in the prog field as a concept record (aside from 2112) is Dream Theater's "A Change of Seasons". Far superior to any other concept record Dream Theater did and also not quite as overlong as Scenes from a Memory 2 or even Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. I digress. Point is, this is a very unique and special record and Tool is a very unique and special band.
