The lesson for me: when I start thinking of a project, I need to think far enough, to trust that the final object will be wearable. That is a lot of brain work. Often, even with the best planning, testing, blocking gauge samples, and so forth and so on, knitting something is still an adventure. When the object disappoints, I need to find the courage to make tough decision, when necessary. Great podcast. 💦 💦

It certainly takes courage to put the idea into practice, though. For me, ripping down the Springfling Tee would be such a heartbreak !!!!! But if you make something better, out of it, then the yarn is not wasted. The life of a knitter can be tough !!
When a project is not working, I usually drop the verdict before I finish the garment : because it is obvious, even before I finish. I abandon the work. I have a few like that. For some I did not even took the trouble of taking them off the needles. I had to buy new sets of needles because of that. Those shipwrecks remain in the attic. 👕👕👕 Right now I feel like I have to go get them, look at them anew, and figure them out. Some are twenty years old !! Because my knitting skills have evolved a bit, I may be able to salvage some. In any case, I will at least have the yarn to recycle. 👕 Thank you for bringing such an enlightement to me !
I am learning a lot from your discussions. I have finished garments that I am disappointed with. The first lesson is: it is normal to have some. We need to be indulgent towards ourselves, and we need to be able to admit that a given work should be frogged, so that the yarn be used in a more useful object. It is hard to do, but sometimes we must.
Very impactful session, this one. Just one example: the light green long sleeve sweater, in Merino and mohair. You provide a very balanced and wise analysis of why you want to frog it. Very thoughtful. I guess the argument that tipped the balance was : " Such a shame this beautiful and expensive yarn is ending up in a sweater that I never wear.". I get it. Might as well recycle the yarn. 💟💟🌆🌆💟💟

For the Safran cotton, I wonder if you could just sew the bottom and make a lining instead of frogging it. Or steek it to be a pillow case :) I find the fit of petit knitter sweaters tend to be a bit weird and not flattering although I found her color/motif very beautiful.
That is such a brilliant idea! I was over eager and already frogged it but I wish I had done that instead 😅 And a good perspective on the fit of the petite knitters designs, I’ll keep that in mind :)
I understand the way in which the Springfling and the Tolsta Tee disappointed you: they are not practical, in your wardrobe, for you to wear ( because of climate, etc ). 💔 But it is probably breaking your heart, thinking of the time, effort, and dream that were put into them, many months ago. Love your no frills sweater, the color is beautiful! i still havent tried KFO merino + their mohair and I just hope I can tolerate it on my skin. I know that the softest mohair is Lang Mohair 21, and I want to try that one a lot.

I think you can DEFINITELY knit the zipper man using the pattern you already have, it's not necessary to buy the light version. I knitted 2 zipper sweaters, one for a man and another for myself in different yarn weights and they turned out great using the original zipper sweater pattern. I just had to adapt a few things but nothing too crazy or difficult to do
How do we say that in English ? Your movie is showing me a lot about how I should do with the clothes that disappointed me, after I knitted them. It is pain in my head to un-knit, but I need to be brave. After, I can use the wool again.

i think you should cut/frog the colorwork on the Kerr sweater and get some of the same yarn in a different color. Could you gift the no frills and tanktop? trade maybe? they are gorgeous pieces and it hurts my heart for all that work to disappear. The stipey tolsta you could rip back the collar and just add some more shortrows to the back, right? and opt for a different finish if you wanted:) I made my first sweater with mohair earlier this year and i dont think ill work with it for a long time.. its itchy and icky:( maybe we should both destash the yarn that doesnt work for us and get to really enjoy our future projects?

Very valuable advice. I will show this video to my sister-in-law: she can't frog anything ever. That comes at a price: she has what I call " dead bodies " in drawers ☠☠, that never move from there. 🎚🎚 It hurts when we face the fact that a project has not worked. Because of so much time, energy, and sometimes cost, invested in it. To frog something is the final admission that there is no future for that project. But on occasion to un-knit is the only right decision, to re-use the yarn. 🎶💎🎶 Kudos for excellent advice and explanations.

It still hurts a bit to frog garments I put lots of work into 🥺 but in the end I never regret it and always love the new project even more
