- Due to copyright restrictions in the music this lovely traveller bride and groom chose for their dances at their wedding reception, I have now cut those out but will re-upload that part of their wedding reception without any sound later. This will hopefully at least will allow you to watch the first half of their wedding day. The sound was all actuality sound anyway, with no added music at all. Only those in the US and India are able to watch the original full version unfortunately.
This has to be the best wardrobe I've ever seen at a gypsy wedding. The mermaid dress makes the bride truly unique. Everyone looked great from head to toe.

I totally agree. I have watched several films of gypsy weddings and this family looked truely lovely. I loved the elaborate hairdos, the young girls all in white - absolutely charming.

I’m pleasantly surprised with how elegant the dresses are for this gypsy wedding. I really love how sophisticated they went as opposed to the opulent and flamboyant dresses you normally see.
Thanks Aria. Yes it seems many people have the impression that all traveller weddings are the same. I find that each one is unique and its that variety that I enjoy capturing, plus all their expressions! xx
Most people base their views about traveller weddings on “my big fat gypsy wedding” forgetting that it was filmed around 2010/2012 … their looks were heavily inspired by 2000’s pop icons and “wags” when bling and tackiness was fashionable but they just done it bigger, as some girls and most traveller girls like to do. Everything now is about looking “aesthetically pleasing” and fashion is even a lot more sophisticated. They’re keeping with trends but doing it on an extremely scale, the traveller way
Most of them that are on the show wear big dresses and there’s some that wear like Matilda had on. There’s a lot of Travels that are like this family but they don’t wanna be on camera. Our family is very very big. We are everywhere. ☺️
This is the most tasteful looking Travelers' wedding I have ever seen. The bride looks beautiful and effortlessly elegant (big emphasis on effortlessly.) The little girls look adorable in a classic, but age appropriate way (the white socks with those dresses are just squee level cute). Absolutely lovely, IMHO.
(I might have spit out the gum though...she seemed nervous so no hate.)

(I realized after I read it again that I unintentionally sounded like a colonizer who thinks their way is better than others, which is so not the case.) I myself am a minority in my country and respect all cultures.
I just meant that the bride looked amazingly beautiful, as did her young attendants.

I am now fully aware how much some parts of the world view chewing gum as inappropriate and lacking in taste, but you did not judge or talk in a negative manner. We all so have personal opinions as to what is right for us as individuals, so I accept that there will always be comments that on the surface appear to be hateful, but yours definitely did NOT fall into that category, so don't worry! This is literally the most beautiful, sexy and CLASSY traveller wedding that I have watched - INCLUDING all of the GUESTS, not just the bridal party. The bride was GORGEOUS, groom dapper, the mother of the bride was exquisite in her gorgeous dress, the flower girls were adorable, bridesmaids lovely, and the matron of honour with her dress, pearls and hat was magnificent! Men, you ALSO all looked fab, and ALL of the guests, male and female, were beautifully attired. Lovely decorations, too. Well done, all of you!
From watching many vids on travellers' weddings, I have come to appreciate the elaborate and colourful creations especially for the bride & her entourage, but this wedding quietly "stated" CLASS. (And, no fights. drama, foul language or screaming matches - which of course do make for TV entertainment). As a minor note (not for me, but for yourselves) - agreeing with other posts below, future brides might want to consider using a TicTak or lozenze instead of gum for their nervousness. Minor point and all in my opinion, of course. Thank you for sharing your day, and wishing you ALL every good thing. Cheers!

Sadly so. It's pretty standard practice amongst travellers though. Remember that they have't been brought up the same way as the general society, so social norms are not followed.

I agree that the traveller culture is fascinating and that weddings can only reveal so much. I have also videoed a traveller funeral which I hope to edit snd post here, but I currently mainly get hired to shoot weddings, ( most of which I am not allowed to upload as they are Muslim weddings) which takes up all my time.
You might enjoy watching this channel 4 TV documentary, "60 Days with the Gypsies" though I'm not sure if you will be able to watch it where you live, as am guessing you might be located outside the UK Kari?

Thanks Dianne. The men are always there, but as you imply, tend to keep away from the main dancing areas at the reception, to let the women have their fun. I've noticed this effect, even at standard, mainstream weddings, so it's not totally unique to travellers, but yes, weddings are often more popular with women.. xx

I also hadn't heard of it before photographing and videoing Tilly's wedding. They are doing very well and already have two lively little boys to make their family complete. Ethal is very romantic too, and loves his wife to bits!

The most classy gypsy wedding I have watched. Although at times looked like a toddlers birthday party, so many toddlers.
Children are the life and soul of traveller weddings Cotton. I adore seeing them having fun. Unlike standard weddings, they always include the whole family, so they would never even consider leaving their little ones at home. Every bride and groom choose their own guest lists according to their own style and culture. At least you know now what to expect, if ever you find yourself invited to a traveller wedding Cotton!
I always HATED having to leave our little one when we were invited to a function, especially as she was usually the best guest invited! If no takes their kids along, how can they learn how to behave and what is expected of them?
VERY true @Meeka! Its children who make wedding special. I absolutely adore watching little ones having fun! I do understand couples who choose to have their wedding as "a grown up affair" only, or who have to limit numbers for financial reasons, but its so much more fun with little ones joining in! (Much more natural too.)

Thats Joanne! Yes they do make a super special effort to look glamorous don't they! I adore looking at all the super creative designs and colours that they come up with. Many outfits are worn just once too, then sold on, aa they don't have a lot of room to store stuff in their compact homes. I need to learn from them.and clear out half of all my clothes!

Aw! Well I guess we have so much more history here, though its only relatively recently that register offices have moved into town halls in a bid to save money, but then, its definitely a winning decision, both for the councils and for the couples who get married there! I've covered weddings in Australia and in 20 more different countries, but so far have yet to be booked to shoot a wedding in any of the Americas! I have shot one in Cuba, but that's as near as I have got to that side of the world so far!

Very classy for a traveller wedding the bride looked like a lady dress lovely fresh flowers too and her groom respectable the children looked like little girls should look like the Guests were dressed appropriately. Other travellers take note this is the way to get married in style

The bride chomping on gum LOL! At least these two lovebirds looked at each other, and let their hands embrace. I have seen some traveller weddings and the bride can't make eye contact with her groom, even during the kiss LOL!
Yes, most traveller brides chew gum during the ceremony, as they don't see any issues with that, and it helps them to keep their mouth fresh, as they can have to go without a drink of water for many hours. Yes, they are a very happy and loving couple, who now also have children, so their love is still strong. Please note, though, that travellers and gypsies rarely choose to have a public kiss during their wedding ceremony at all, as they have generally never had time alone together prior to their marriage, so definitely would not be comfortable having a first kiss in public!

Hi 'Hermit', I doubt you'll have seen many newly-wed travellers sharing a public kiss at all, as most decline to do their first ever kiss in public. As for the chewing gum, it's pretty standard fare, or has been over the past decade or so, as its not seen as anything negative in their culture. Every community has its accepted practices, but they don't always convey the same meanings within other communities or cultures.
I'm glad you appreciated that they do love each other, though, as they now have a beautiful family and are still happily married.

Thanks you Tulip. Her mum was wearing a dress that had a black, lacy, bodice with a low neck line and long sleeves, the full length white skirt of which had delicate black designs near the hem. She also appears at the start of the video outside her caravan, before she changed into her tasteful mother-of-the-bride dress. Like her daughter, she was quite shy so you might have missed seeing her. I was also taking photos so not easy to capture everything!
You can see her towards the end of the video, holding her daughters dress, as the bride and groom run down the steps from Barnsley Town Hall towards the waiting car.

So nice to see a traveler wedding where both the wedding party and the guests dressed and acted like it was a sacred ceremony and the party thereafter was to honor that ceremony rather than screaming, fighting, and dressed like trailer trash. Romany people, like any ethnic minority, have to behave better than non-Romany in order to overcome negative stereotypes. My mam would say "You're going to have to be smarter, look better, work harder and behave and speak like you're a lady if you're going to beat them at their own game. Show them that you're better than they are no matter what life throws at you."

Aw that's lovely! My mum used to love her pearl necklace, but you don't see them worn much, though pearls or sparkly cut glass beads on dresses still exist. You should see Palistani weddings for bling! ( I video loads of those, but they don't allow them to be seen publicly online).
This was a great dress not over the top big.Everyone looked amazing and this was the best modern reception I have ever seen of a gypsy swedding,but that gum the bride had is very dissrespectful.
I understand Dona, though different cultures have different ways of doing things and an act that is considered a social norm in one group of people isn't necessarily seen in the same light in another.

Big big difference in clothing choice just overall demeanor what I have seen on other Gypsy or Traveler Wedding Shows. They shine a different light on them. Looking at these videos show me that they do have class.
Oh thank you Laydee Beasley. They certainly have a lot of love for their families, and work hard to dress well for weddings as its a family occasion, for both young and old. The children always enjoy dancing, and no-one is told to leave their children at home, whatever age they are! This is real life, so although often dramatic, it definitely isn't a TV show!

Thanks Miss AJ. I think traveller fashions might have changed over time, just as puff sleeves did that were popular 40 years ago have gone completely, so the puffy traveller dresses may also now be a thing of the past?
This couple seems a more reasonable age for getting married than some of the other traveller weddings, some seem to truly still be children.
I understand how you feel, but most travellers who marry young, start their families straight away, and tend to grow together as a couple over the years, as did our grandparents or great grandparents. I myself got married at 22, and had my first child at the end of the same year, but I am not a traveller, so its really down to personal choice, isn't it?
They grow up quickly enough once they start having children , anyway!
I am an American viewer. Chewing gum does seem disrespectful HOWEVER, saying someone is trash after watching a video with NO fighting, NO nasty words, NO drunken vomiting, NO unpleasantness and NO INAPPROPRIATE behavior towards or from the children- instead, everyone getting along, dressed nicely, happy, and laughing
If, that is your view of trash please look up the definition in the Webster dictionary.

Thanks Nikki. I realise that chewing gum is not orthodox, but then travellers do have their own way of doing things don't they. Expected social behaviours also vary from one group of people to another, so that each has their own list of "dos or don'ts". For example, in some countries its perfectly acceptable to get changed into or out of swimwear on a beach, but in others its not, and a hand gesture in one country might mean something totally different in another.
Anyway, that apart, am glad you enjoyed watching the video I shot of their wedding! xx

I loved the dresses for everyone. So classy. Most of the time the dresses for gypsy girls are over the top, too far over the top, ending up tacky. This wedding was classy and elegant for gypsies

Some people chew gum to calm their nerves. A wedding is a big deal and nerve wracking to some. I can't imagine what the bride was feeling before she walked down the aisle. She was beautiful and so we're the bridesmaid and flower girls❤I don't agree with the gum chewing and she could have made it less obvious but as I said above she may have been really nervous.

That's so sweet of you Loretta ❤️ ! Thank you! That's a novel idea, about "Say yes to the dress" show, but usually the people on those shows are very self-centred, so not at all like my shy bride. Not all travellers have big dresses, of course, but the right one is always important, just as it is for any bride.
