First hint of Joseph Schmidt doing a great job coaching Ireland which eventually led this Irish team to beat the All Blacks in Chicago 40-29. But it took 111yrs for Ireland to beat the All Blacks anyway. For this game Ireland scored 19points and the All Blacks only 7 points in the 1st half. But the All Blacks came back taking the game home by scoring 17points right on time. The All Blacks played 80 minutes of this gsme while Ireland played only 65minutes - which contributed to their loss.
I remember a tired Kiwi team, a long campaign closing. Well below what they are capable when the planets, the fairies and the auspices align. The injection of Beauden, Messam, Cole etc. was vital to the eventual result.
I've watched all of the 2014 All Blacks games when they play European teams ... all the Northerm Hemisphere teams (except the French) have the same gameplan ... spoiling tactics when defending, one off the ruck and the odd backline move ... the Northern Hemisphere skill level and game has gone backwards over the last 10 years ... very sad to see!

Yeah, my dad's from Galway. So, I have big love in my heart for the Irish. Not only because I am half, but more for the way they play the game. The Irish have a real mix of brute defense and great attacking flair, they are always fun to watch.
