    I already have an RES-Plus, but I definitely could use an HD SNES player. I'm guessing the Hyperkin machine is going to be coming out next month too? I think, as with the various HD NES players that came out earlier in the year, the wise thing to do is wait until they all release and see which one actually performs better. I'm glad to see more companies entering this space than just Hyperkin and RetroBit. As far as this machine goes, it looks to me like the video might be a bit soft, at least more-so than I'd prefer out of an HD signal. The RES-Plus was impressively sharp, so I'm hoping for a similar performance out of any HD SNES player.

    Great review! I might pick one of these up. Minor point, though...You mention that the SNES "Doom" and "Doom 64" were the only two "Doom" games to hit a Nintendo console. The GBA had (surprisingly good) ports of "Doom" and "Doom 2." ;)

    I like your reviews, but giving us a bits of audio without the voiceover would be great. The audio issues are a big issue on the clone consoles, so it's nice to hear them. Otherwise, great review.

  • @tyleradam4836

    With NOAC, or Nintendo on a Chip architecture like most clone consoles have, there are still music tracks missing an extra instrument that can normally be heard on an official NES. I’m still a stickler for that, and clone consoles still haven’t gotten that fixed.

    • @ToploadedGaming

      Thats my concern. I wish the audio was louder so I could hear. It seems to me that FPGA's and original hardware are my only option.

      It took me a lot of time I posted instructables link on the comments you made on each video which will give you an idea. I'm not the fastest worker in the world I like to take my time to get things the way I want. I'm anxious to get it done but parts coming in some from overseas is holding me back atm.

    The real _"problem"_ with games like Castlevania III are not the visuals, but the sound.
    Most of the clone systems do sound emulation poorly on some games.
    To really test a clone system, visuals come second and sound comes first.
    Test a clone system with the following games for sound issues:
    Castlevania III, Burai Fighter, Journey to Silius, Lagrange Point, Gremlins 2, Shadow of the Ninja, Bucky O'hare or Power Blade.
    For graphics errors, inconsistencies, bad emulation of special chips:
    Contra Force, Batman: Return of the Joker, Zanac, Guardian Legend, Metal Storm, Willow, Crisis Force, Recca Summer Carnival '92 or Solar Jetman.

      Smash JT it seems to use the NOAC architecture, which is a Nintendo on a Chip, for short. I could tell the audio didn’t sound right on Castlevania III. It usually sounds better with another lead instrument.

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921 7 лет назад +5

      Another console with the God-forsaken reversed duty cycle failure. It's insane how many NES clone chipsets are using a horribly flawed UMC-manufactured clone of the 2A03 CPU (audio hardware resides in the CPU on the NES) even to this day in 2017. There is NO PLACE for any chipset like that when there have been numerous other clones that get the duty cycles right (they botch other aspects of the audio, but the issue isn't as flagrant as reversed duty cycles since it mostly affects DPCM, which not all games make use of).
      The Super NES side looks pretty dull and it seems to not get as bright as the NES side. Also, I know it's hard to hear anything over RGT's voice, but I'm not hearing any stereo separation in the audio. It could be me, like I said, it's hard to hear, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case since previous HDMI clones seem to use an HDMI chipset that is lacking stereo audio inputs. If one such chipset is used here, stereo over HDMI will never happen, period.

    • @jutemankif
      @jutemankif 6 лет назад

      I always appreciate the expert critique, Ace. I'm still waiting for them to enlist your input instead of getting roasted by you every time.

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921 6 лет назад +2

      Trust me, I'm waiting for the day that happens too, but if nobody wants my input, I will go off and do my own things. I've already started doing that with some prototype hardware (still an NOAC, though this isn't one with any signals that could be readily used over HDMI - it's more of a test system than anything; it's not flawless, but good enough for someone who's not too fussy) and I'm looking to expand from there.

    Seems like a really cool system! BUT what's keeping these companies from selling an affordable upscaler? They can put them into a clone console and sell them at an affordable price, so why can't they just make a separate upscaler and offer it to the public? There's allot of money to be made there.

  • @TacticalPower88

    Does this have any advanced settings like anti-flicker for NES games etc?

    • @tyleradam4836
      @tyleradam4836 7 лет назад +1

      TacticalPower88 it does not. It plays games in pixel perfect format. There’s no OS GUI to boot back to to enable any cheats and flickering like emulation does. It just plays the games. NES has the Nintendo on a Chip (NOAC) architecture, which is why the instruments on some games sound off.

    I can't really hear the game audio over his voice, but I imagine it's like all of the other SOAC clones... inaccurate and weird pitch glitches here and there.
    Also, the graphics do not look good at all for being in HD via HDMI. They look to be at around svideo quality,with blurry pixels and wrong colors. How much of this could be the recording method is unknown.
    I personally can't wait until we hit an era where all clones are FPGA based with perfect hardware emulation of the original consoles.

    From my personal research, this clone is OKAY but that's it, it's only just OKAY. It does not properly replicated the original NES like Tim Worthingtons RGB kit or Kevtris' HDMI mod does. Those kits are worth the money. It's probably not worth replacing any current clone systems you have to buy this. I'm also extremely suspicious of those controllers. I've never played a 3rd party controller that felt mechanically acceptable to me.

    See, look Shawn I like you, I'm not at all claiming you do this with some sort of malicious intent. But, your review here, for example. A popular game should be shown, and you did that. We also need the audio, and that is what is missing. For Castlevania the audio is so low, I cannot tell. Some people are okay with the audio glitches and don't seem to notice them. I'd like a good hdmi snes to go along with my AVS. So id really be interested in this if the snes works. I do however, find it hard to believe that this nes on a chip product does that. For me $70 for a Retron 5 style product is not for me. We need a snes fpga. Starting to think fpga's are the only things that can compare to the original as far as upgrading to HDTV's. I'm not knocking you, I just need more info.

      Rafael Mendoza Same; reading a lot of that text through composite cables on an HD screen is the definition of 'the struggle.' Especially if you're more than two feet away from the screen, and not squinting. :b

    Wow looking good. Is this hardware or emulation? I also want to know if the everdrive works good with this.

    Did you said Doom is not a really good game? WUUUUTT?? Thats a timeless classic, a game you can still play in 2017 and have fun. Yes maybe the SNES version is not the best, but i guarentee you the X360 version on live arcade is great to play even today.
    Otherwise this system looks good but got the same problem for me as much others. I want the system always pre-loaded with every games. I don't care for collection or original plastic stuff. I guess i can buy one of those cartridges of ebay tough... that would work on this.
