It was nice meeting and talking with you Roman. Crazy that you took a G wagon on baby lions back and turned it into a boat! haha. Thanks for spotting us and the confidence booster taking our XJ down into the Lake! haha That was our first trail of the day, and a good way to get our nerves sorted out before Hell's Revenge.
Did any water get in the cabin of your XJ did you do anything to water proof the electrical in the engine or anywhere before hand? That water was pretty deep.
In my opinion we all witnessed what outdoor adventures, especially off-roading, should be like, two strangers helping each other out. It didn't matter that one was driving something that cost a significant amount of money, the memories made are where the value is truly found.
I don't know, it made a great commercial. The G Wagon never looked back. Just dusted off it's top hat and exclaimed "Good day" to the peasants in the Jeep.
Yeah, this does not make a ton of sense. Usually he has a sidekick with him for road tripping a vehicle home. Although, he didn't have one with the TRX. Which ironically, he did NOT run that straight over to Moab to run the course. And that was owned. Just never know which way his wheels are going to spin.
Any vehicle about to be submerged needs Andrey behind the wheel. The footage from several years ago of him going into the drink in a military Hummer (I think) with the water flooding in was priceless.
When it comes to outdoor recreation, (Camping, biking, off roading, etc) one thing to remember is we're all out there for the same thing. The outdoors community is one of the Nicest things to be a part of and I love the interactions between fellow outdoors Enthusiasts. I've met some weirdos out in the woods and on the trails, But they always leave me with a smile
Well, that was as dramatic as the short where you showed the 4 door Jeep going through it. (not dramatic at all lol) But seeing you take the G here vs Tahuya in WA. is a far less cringe situation. No branches, no pin striping. Nice open terrain. No problems. Only thing you are missing is your side kick to film it for you. 🙂 This is where I would want to run an expensive NEW 4x4 too. Or some sort of other 4x4 open terrain park where all you have to contend with is the terrain and not the bushes n trees.
I saw you drive by us at the entrance to Fins and I told my friend “I think that’s Roman!”. He ended up speeding up on the trail to catch up and talk to you (he was driving the white JK Rubicon). Good video!
Can you imagine the guy in the Jeep coming around the water and as he comes out he looks and goes “Holy F!” “That guy to THAT through this water?” Hahaha. It’s definitely deeper that it usually is when TFL has been there! Looked pretty cool for both vehicles. I suspect the G-Wagon was well sealed, something tells me the two in the Cherokee have wet feet!! Hahaha. Nice job Roman, really!! It looked very cool, you got some angles that were unique and when you dropped the right front in that hole, I clenched MY butt cheeks here in my shop!!! 😂😂😂. Sheesh!! See ya in the next one!!
Great review. It's just sad that such a capable vehicle is wasted on pretty much 100% of owners. I think journalists like you and a few others are the only ones in the US who have used even a fraction of the G's ability. The fact that an AMG version exists just illustrates how absurd the situation is. The German camp I was at in Afghanistan had a bunch of these in diesel armored version. Those were awesome trucks and what the G was truly built for. The German Army even puts K02's on theirs.
@@andrewwilliams3651You’re wrong, it was built by request of the Shah of Iran but it was cancelled due to the revolution. And the first country that had military G wagons was Argentina.
I always thought the G wagon was just what you buy when you want other people to know you have money. Then I watched whislindiesels g wagon videos and it's my new favorite vehicle I will never own.
Greetings from Austria, the home of the G wagon! Here near Graz we do a lot of crazy stuff to test the G wagon, so you can do that kind of video without problems 😉. But don't forget: Even a G wagon can break and if so, it's going very, very expensive (and I know for sure because mine came back from the workshop last week 😀). However - have fun with it - that's the only reason to buy one!
I watched you pick up this morning cool rig and think a Rivian vs the G. The off road ability and range G best of gas powered vs the Rivian best of ev. The poor fuel economy of the G (including fuel refill times) vs Rivian cost for same trip and (repower time) love your work ps that G 6x6 was my dream rig but now either the Rivian truck or ford lightning
Oh my Roman one of the best videos ever , I guess Mercedes Jesé that as a test car for that kind of stuff, puts the Defender to shame Great work From TFL The Best there is😀👍🙏
0:54 I guess they didn't really have anywhere else to put it but that actually kinda Interesting that the controls for the windows and mirrors are kinda "on top" of the door.
The Gwagon 4x4 squared looks very capable but I am interested to know how much it can flex/articulate. Its one of the most important aspects of offroading. At least it should articulate similar to a 2023 bronco. It would be a big miss if a very capable car cant even last or pass a simple terrain for the reason of tipping easily.
Wow! I really though it was going to tip or sideslip there. Would you have released the brakes had it not settled so quickly and let it run into the water or hung on for dear life until it started tipping and then tried to save it? Not sure butt clenching would’ve helped.😱😎😇
Ha ha, love the fact that you took that 350K Sanfran corn hole cruiser through that pond. Merc should be proud of the fact that it was used for what it was designed for. I loved that jeep, it's given me ideas for my old WH Grand with the diesel.
This seems like a situation where the hummer would shine, the high water line can freeze the engine of a combustion engine in just a few seconds, scary considering the price tag.
That's the last time Mercedes gives you a loaner! haha jk, glad you were able to have some fun with it. That AMG has seen more excitement than 99% of all others lol
@@buddy1155 If Mercedes trashes a vehicle while testing it it's their own dime. If they loan TFL a vehicle and they trash it, it will probably be the last time they deal with TFL, and possibly sue for damages since its a 350K vehicle. Roman is always careful about loaners and tries not to mess them up. I think he misjudged how steep that obsticle was, (could have flipped it if he steered a slightly different way), and also misjudged how deep the water was.
Hell no, this kind of stuff sells tons of vehicles for them. 99% of people who buy this won't do this but the thought of being able to makes it intriguing. Also he would have gotten prior approval to do this. LOL
The only truly impressive thing is the price. The G was always extremely capable - long before they turned it into an 8 foot tall S Class and charged $350G. Versions that are 40 years old today will most likely still be on the road 10 years from now. This one and others from the past decade or so usually wind up mechanically totaled within a couple of years of the warranty expiring.
Even the AMG models are good. The family had a 2006 G55 put +300 000km (est 200 00miles) on South African roads and paths, with little to now mechanical empathy and back water mechanics. Only problem was the fuel consumption and wind noise on highway. It held its value better than any other SUV of it’s time so letting go didn’t hurt to much either.
Mercedes could get into the off road market quickly if they would bring over lower trim levels of the G-wagen that are used by the German army. If they were priced about what a Wrangler is, they would sell a lot of them.
As far as I remember the working version of the G costed like 40k around 2000 then 40k plus options in about 2005, then about 50k plus options in 2009… The last working version sold to the public was the G350d which costed over 110k when the production ended in 2018… Nowdays they still build it (they came with a brand new version called W464 last autumn) but they only sell it to gov’t clients as it doesn’t meet the emission standarts anymore. There are no public pricelists available but from what I’ve heard the prices are pretty similar to those of non-AMG versions of the luxo W463A…

Shame the Roman didn't have more of the crew there to help film this one when he's reviewing one of the coolest vehicles TFL's ever done.
Last time Roman gets a 350,000 loner from Mercedes lmao Great stuff!!
I don't know, it made a great commercial. The G Wagon never looked back. Just dusted off it's top hat and exclaimed "Good day" to the peasants in the Jeep.

What blows my mind is the lack of water intrusion into the cabs.
G wagons are actually double sealed for water . They are designed to withstand a certain amount of water before giving in

sick G wagon. Happy they brought back the square
one the best off roaders ever next to a unimog to bad there was not a basic base model for us true off roaders

In Sweden you can buy an older G-wagon like a 300D or 300GD for less than $15 000.
Samme har i Norge, de se ute ikke så fresh men det funker.

I saw some water spilling out from the door cracks. Did any water get inside on the floor?
Yikes! I don’t know if I could take a $350K+ loaner through the water like that. But I’m glad you did it. That is one capable rig!
Have thr fixed the rear axle differential housing issue already?

That’s crazy how deep the water was. Glad you made it through. I’d be nervous being on my own going through that.
Outside of the Bronco Raptor, this might be the most capable stock off-roader you can buy.
surprising you made through the water given the battery is under the floor. Its how I wrote off my GL
What a sweet truck!
G Wagon is a dream car, but this would stress me out. Desert is a really cool place though.
The beeping are the parking sensors. The G is the best off roader by far.
Am so in love with this vehicle

Nice vehicle, crazy price! Any Black Friday deals on it? Lol
Don’t let Whistlin Diesel get his hands on this bad boy! 😂(great vid, Roman!!)

did the water get inside?
How does it stack up to the Bronco Raptor?

Notice the Jeep never went on 3 wheels, well balanced
He took a different line
Damn that thing is a beast.
The G wagon is an off road vehicle first before before a land jet
This seems like a situation where the hummer would shine, the high water line can freeze the engine of a combustion engine in just a few seconds, scary considering the price tag.
The G squared needs beefier offroad tires...
So Roman telling him he’s fine as he dunks the intake into the water. Hahaha your fine no problem. You wanted to do an engine swap right?
I don't think Mercedes lent you the G 63 squared so you end your video with this particular conclusion :DD
Thanks for video
What's the wading depth for the new 4x4 squared?
1 metre
😮 very cool
I feel like I should buy a Benz now of any model just to support them for making this thing!!!

Moab Cardio Thru Romans Pond.
Anyone know what the colour is called?
That is way more impressive than it looks because the size scale is misleading. That G is so big.
The sound of the engine sounds like a powerful fighter while going uphill and out of the water, listen again
