Thank you StudioBinder for opening my eyes to the true art of film. I like movies, but your videos are changing my complete perception of the deep art, thought and work that goes into a production. I have been doing live filming of events for numerous years and always wondered what was wrong with my edits. They were Ok, but I knew something was wrong....I now have a tiny inclinking of what. All I can say is wow, and thanks.
really helpful!! I'm assigned to prod design for our school film project and good thing I was able to watch this video and had a glimpse on what its like to be a prod. designer, thank you!
This is the career I aspire to be in after I graduate, but I have yet to decided on a school program. I was considering interior design but wasnt too sure how useful it is for production design, any advice, or other program suggestions will be much appreciated!
anything design and art related is a good start. graphic design, industrial design, art, architecture etc are all pretty good. you want to build a high skill set in presenting design and using professional software. with this you will have to start with smaller jobs and build up your portfolio to eventually work your way up 👍🏻
I loved your video, but I really felt it needed more depth, more examples; a longer version. I know it is super hard, but do do mind producing another episode? Congratuations, man. Keep up the great effort, we appreciate it.
StudioBinder i think the series is actually really helpful. Like its stuff you already know, but it gives such a brief yet concise context on the important Details. Plus to add other information that I didn’t know as well. Which really helps spark the creativity! Thanks for this series. On episode 5 now while reading and writing down notes. Its just so good to learn all this online. 🙏
I remember watching that Wes Anderson scene and I literally had to pause it because my hands were shaking; I did empathize too much with the character that I still think about it.
I need to learn this because my long term goal having my own film company & I want to do something for my community. Tyler Perry have his own studio, I have an mine of my own so Film Production is interesting
dang im on my music grind heavy I have some good tracks on my page I'm stuck on the idea that believing is the first step to achieving lemme know what you like listening to
Hi Studiobinder, thanks so much for this informative video. I wonder what tool you use to organise the notes in script- reading? I think it appears in 3'32'' in this video? Thanks a lot.
VFS was pretty decent, I got a good education in Production Design though I would recommend doing an AUTOCAD course 1st before enrolling or taking an Interior Design course or degree. Then I would pretty much hit up the best schools LA Film School or anything in the UK is much better. Keep in mind when you get into the business the real business you are going to have to prove yourself and work hard, typically as a set designer or drafter 1st before a major studio hires you on as the production designer because anyone can really be a production designer at the end of the day. Proven by Luc Bason's fifth element. The helpful duo were comic book creators. It is an "Above the line position". Plus you will want to ensure you can earn a living outside the industry when business is slow so an Interior Design Degree will help a ton.
Can an engineer become a movie set designer? And the thing is not only becoming a movie set designer , money wise can an engineer earn heavily in set designing because leaving engineering field and entering into a this field is quite risky. So plz guide me , should I take this risk or not
does anyone here know how to get into production designer? like where do i start? i don't have any film background but i'm currently doing architecture in college (i'm on my third year) and i've been thinking about production designer as my future career :)
We're on the same boat! I just graduated with a bachelors degree in Architecture and wants to pursue production design as a career. I'm also asking the same questions. lol
@@chanvergara9169 hey! if you don't mind me asking, where do you come from? i personally struggling here because i live in a country where the film industry is not really 'huge' so it is unbelievably hard to find production design information... but i started to learn production design through online course! i recommend u to do this online course www.futurelearn.com/courses/production-design/2/todo/78016 it's free and i think it's a good start to learn the basic
Sir, in the movie "The Dictator" in a particular scene we see Sacha Baron Cohen in front of a Wall filled with photographs. So why were we feeling so empty?
i think its bcoz he had sex with so many people but no one is with him. he had king size bed but no one is sleeping with him. and sad music plays in background .
Great video but its a tad annoying that in a video about Production Design you're not crediting any of the actual Production Designers in any of these examples. "Look at how Wes Anderson and *David Wasco* use art direction in this scene" FTFY
In my understanding, production designer is the decision maker. The person who sets the tone of how things will be done. The art director makes sure those things get done.
The precision of these videos 👍🏼 Team, I'm also looking for a Production Designer to join our short film project. Please send a message if you're interested in having a space to show your craft! Our film is a Sci Fi Romantic Drama and taking place at a unique and rustic apartment studio. Thanks!
who have you made this this video for? if it is the cine goers, then the idea of a production design is hardly put across. I, as a common audience, am feeling confused what is production design and what is set design while I watch this video. Good luck.
This is the career I aspire to be in after I graduate, but I have yet to decided on a school program. I was considering interior design but wasnt too sure how useful it is for production design, any advice, or other program suggestions will be much appreciated!
I can’t tell you how often I’m impressed with the production design of Stranger Things. Someone has been doing their homework.

This is so amazing. Whoever created this - thank you so much.
Ok , been watching S Binder for some time and now a whole new narrator , hard to get use to.
Production design is extremely underrated, altho its so important.

Nice! I would also suggest grabbing the worksheets. What did you think of the series?

Great way of perspective with putting things in perspective with overall psychological aspect set design wardrobe everything great...

Lots of good tips here, we'll keep this in mind when we're shooting our next round of commercials spots!
Dude, I don't usually comment, but let's just say I had to like and comment this video!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this is great

What is production design 😁
Last frame is from wich movie
I believe it's from Bruce Almighty.
difference between Production design and art director
In my understanding, production designer is the decision maker. The person who sets the tone of how things will be done.
The art director makes sure those things get done.
