    Today’s video is a filmmaking video essay on Amazon Prime video’s new show, The Boys. Our film theory and scene analysis on the scene elements and production design used in The Boys. This can include set dressing, movie props, and costumes.
    Have you watched The Boys on Amazon prime video? We have, and we were excited when we heard that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were producers on the show. We were also excited to hear about The Boys cast which includes Jack Quaid.
    Many had never even heard of The Boys comic, so when the first season of The Boys show came out, it was a total blindside. We found something else about the show that is really great - mise en scene. Mise en scene includes many things like scene elements and production design, and we found that The Boys did a great job at building a world.
    The Boys had to choose production design and scene elements that were both satirical but also logical, and they needed to build a world that seemed legitimate. This includes the costumes, the movie props, the set dressing - all of the scene elements and mise en scene had to help show the difference in characters, in their circumstances, etc.
    Out video teaches you about mise en scene, production design, and scene elements through our video essay on The Boys on Amazon prime video. Make sure to check it out so you can level up your own filmmaking skills with our scene analysis. It will be fun to see if they continue the excellence in The Boys season 2.

    I'm still kinda confused by the difference between set dressing and props.
    If you need 100 cans of a drink for a shelf, that's set dressing.
    But the one a character picks up is to list separate as a prop?

    • @Maerahn
      @Maerahn 8 месяцев назад

      I think that's pretty much it. Anything that's in a scene purely to make a location look authentic and give it that 'this is a real environment that people live and work in' vibe is set dressing - but the moment a character uses or otherwise interacts with it on some level it becomes a prop.

    You say "Production Design" but then go in to Super Suites and Props, which are two different departments. You also then toss in about 30 VFX elements that are yet another dept. If you're going to talk about production design specifically, then credit the production designer. Talk about the design, construction, and augmentation of the sets. This concerns me as your software seems to be for the purpose of breaking things down by department. ;)

    • @StudioBinder
      @StudioBinder  4 года назад

      I see your point that it does get a little convoluted. However, Production Designers work closely with directors and producers to create design aspects in the film such as graphics, props, lighting, costumes, and sets. So, yes, they are all different departments, but the Production Designer is responsible for being in charge of all those different departments to serve the director's and producer's vision. Which is why it's grouped that way.
      Hope that elucidates and clarifies.

    • @StephanFleet
      @StephanFleet 4 года назад

      @@StudioBinder We all work closely together to one degree or another. In this instance, there is a Super Suite designer (LJ), diff even than the costume designer, that you should credit, that started about 6mo before the PD was hired. What you are talking about for much of your video does not slot under the heirarchy of PD at all. Many of the things you attributed to production design were also VFX. Also you left out Stunts, SPFX, and Set Decoration, and more. It's all good. All I'm saying is focus on your topic and drop accurate info. Trust me, I'm pretty close to this show ;)

    • @StudioBinder
      @StudioBinder  4 года назад

      Sure, with experience, a lot of this can be done by mind. But it's also important to break down elements to better communicate what's needed with other team members, generate reports, schedules, and, most importantly, budgets. And it all needs to stay in sync as new versions of a script/schedule/budget are created. It's why software like Movie Magic Scheduling exists and is used in most professional productions.
