Scott, Thank you so very much for making this series. I’ve had this radio for almost a year but only managed to program in some repeaters for local nets. I found the manual to be a bit confusing but your explanations are so helpful in demystifying the user experience. Your channel is excellent and much appreciated.
Outstanding instructional video! Easy to follow pacing of information, minimal technological jargon, and periodic reviews. I walked away more confident in my abilities to operate my new VX-6. Thank you
Thank you. -> How do I put my call sign on the Home Screen. (Start up). I’ve seen some folks have it on the start up screen when you first turn on the VX-6 New subscriber. I love your teaching style. 💁🏻♀️
Love the video. But please tip the radio back so we can see the screen in the next video. It almost unreadable 75% of the video. But great narration, can't wait for part 3.
Scott: Thanks for these videos. I bought my VX-6 fourteen years ago when I got my license, but was a bit daunted by the manual. These vids are fantastic! I watch them and put reference data into a spreadsheet for future reference. Excited to get through the entire VX-6 series of your vids. Well done!
When I was shopping for my first radio, one of the pieces of advice was to choose one that had a lot of RUclips videos about it. I now know why! The VX-6 is my first radio and I appreciate your step-by-step instructions! I am looking forward to part three.
This was an impulse buy and I also wanted to have this as my ft60s brother. This does way more than I even thought… the first thing I tuned into was some shamanic ritual singing station on 920, and then some Christian yacht rock. This thing will amuse me for years.
@@KS6DAY real talk hahah, might have to look into getting ham licensed now… the hams in my area are pretty funny. That dang baofeng is a real gateway hahaha.
Scott, I have become a slightly better operator of this little radio I have had for years. I'll be using the memory bank feature today at a hamfest. It will make scanning much more useful. Much appreciated. 73.
Thank you. I bought this radio a few years ago when I got my Technician/ General (same night) ticket. I've found it difficult to use until your videos. Now on to the next part. 73
I had this radio years ago and sold it. Regretted it for a long time. Just finally ordered a new one that will be here tomorrow. These videos are helping me get back up to speed on this radio. Thanks Scott!
Thank you Scott for providing great instruction on the VX-6. I have one of these radios and I love it. However, I found it to be a bit of a challenge at first because it is very different in its set up. You've made it easy to understand. Love your channel!
Scott, incredibly helpful. Instruction manual mediocre at best. What do all of the other 71 menu items do.? I find the Baofeng much more intuitive to program.
The 800 - 900 mhz band is for the first responders (law enforcement, fire, ambulance, etc.) At least, it is in my area here in Utah. It's where the trunked systems live. And, of course 910 to 920 (somewhere in that range) is where the amateur 33cm band lives. DE K7RLN
I watched a youtube video under "vx-6 mods " and found a guy that wide banded his vx6r , so Sunday I bit the bullet and did mine. It was not hard to do. But in his video , he was showing a watt meter connected to his vx6 on 6 meters , and it was putting out almost three watts , so it opens up the 6 meter band. I dont have a 6 meter antenna yet, but I do know it does transmit on 6 meters ( low power for about 1 second ), so keep it in mind if you want to do yours. Look on youtube and you will find it. Great video and series , thank you.
Found one of these radios in our server room a few years back. Boss wanted to throw it in the electronic recycle bin as it would not turn on. Recently I found an DC power plug and was able to power it up for the first time. Really curious about learning about amateur radio hobby and how to use this thing. I have watched part 1 and now part 2. Lots of things that still confuse me but I'm slowly figuring things out. When I press the Band key in memory mode it says No Bnk, I assume it means no bank... is this correct and is it relevant? I have no idea what is configured on this thing. Should I maybe factory reset it and start from scratch?
It means it’s in battery save mode, it’s in the manual. Instead of constantly looking for signal, it checks periodically. I believe the default is every 200ms.
Thanks for explaining how to use the memorybanks. What I don't understand is that it isn't working for me. When I push the [BAND] button in memory-mode, it says 'NO BNK'. As if there are no banks. But there must be because I also renamed them allready in menu 10. Do you have a solution? Thanks in advance!
Scott, this series is an enormous help to someone who has literally just unboxed it!
Scott,
Thanks for taking the time to create these videos. This is a huge help! Can't thank you enough. Keep up the good work.

Take that as a sign from the radio gods. You have chosen well.

Awesome series!!!!!
Great work! Keep it coming. Very good information.
Hi: Any reason why the VX-6 does not accept UHF frequencies such xxx.1375 or xxx.0375 etc. while my $19 radio can?
change step

Very Helpful! Great stuff!
Good stuff, keep’m coming. Thx!

Did you get a 6 meter antenna yet? Please let us know how it works on 6 meters that mod is very interesting to me.

thank once again
Why is there a blinking save button on the display. I see it on my radio also

Have you added any memory channels to the banks? It will only show banks that have channels allocated to them.
