"....because it's like, kind of optional...."
I feel so seen.
Your videos are really great. I knew most of the steps thanks to Patterns of fashion 5 and other readings, bit I really like to have a visual experience too.
I love the piecing of the lining! That's been my Covid sewing mantra, "piecing is period!"
I love piecing too! It's so economical
Thank you for the shout out Gracie! Great video!❤️
thank you! I love that checked linen
I put off lining my Augusta stays for a few weeks after ‘finishing’ them to give myself a little hand sewing break. And I was also feeling lazy. But I did it eventually! They’re the most high quality thing I’ve ever sewn, gotta protect at all costs
Very nicely done. Also, a good explanation for why your stays were lined at the very end.
Great video! It's great to see the lining process broken down and your explanation of why you made the choice to piece it was excellent - and I'm sure there were plenty of 18th century staymakers who had scraps lying around did the same!
Thanks! When in doubt, piece!
I just hand sewed a corset and it was really therapeutic
that's awesome!
I've never thought of lining as a last step, but that makes a lot of sense! I love this video, so pleasant and beautifully shot ♥️
thank you!
I'm nearing completion on the boning channels for a new pair of stays right now - hopefully this (and my desire to wear them) will help keep me motivated to line them! And I really appreciate actually seeing someone line their stays. I feel like it usually gets talked about but not shown, and this made it seem a lot less daunting.
Glad you found the video useful! Good luck with your stays :)
Thanks so much for sharing! Your stays are looking so great!!
thank you!
You're inspiring me Gracie. I kinda like that.
Thank you for sharing your process🙏🏼
Seasons greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Seasons greetings to you too! :)
Nice job, Gracie. I love how you give accurate information so clearly. And I'm now feeling just a bit more motivated to line my own stays instead of deeming them "done" just short of that last step! 😄 (I always line stays I make for other people... weird how I'm not quite so particular about my own.)
Haha I get that! After finishing stays except for the lining all I want to do is make the pretties that go overtop.
@@GraciePattenSewing Yes! I'm making new stays right now and yes, they're for myself and it's tempting to leave out unnecessary bits and move straight onto the big gown, but I keep reminding myself that the stays themselves are a valid project (re-producing, as much as possible, a pair in Patterns of Fashion 5) so they really do deserve to be completely finished. LOL
You had me at "Mystery Linen," it makes scraps seem so artful! Lovely video and project series. I will definitely be referencing this later when I make my own stays :)
Thank you! Glad my videos could be helpful!
