Let's Make Some Historical Christmas Gifts! | 18th Century Neckerchief and Necklace Tutorial
Happy holidays! I hope this video brings you some joy as we bring 2021 to a close. I didn't have a space to mention this in this (rather hastily-made) video, but especially as the winter cold sets in, I encourage you to help out local mutual aid groups if you have the time or resources. They are often able to reach people in need the most quickly and effectively.
Also of note, this was my first time editing a video with new software, and I edited it really quickly, so there may be some mistakes or places where the audio could be better! However, I think that the features I can now access with new software will mean better video quality going forward, so I'm pretty excited about that.

Sewing a Basic Gathered Skirt WITH POCKETS
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.3 года назад
A cottagecore (ish) gathered skirt - with pockets! Depending on the fabric you use and how you choose to style and decorate your skirt, this skirt could work for vintage and retro skirt silhouettes, historical skirts and petticoats, cosplay, or just an everyday contemporary garment. I wanted a work skirt with lots of swoosh, and that's definitely what I got. If you want to see some of the ways ...

Join me as I sew the "Seren" Sundress from Tilly and the Buttons! I don't usually sew from modern patterns (or at least from modern patterns that market themselves as contemporary), but I felt like this dress, though quite contemporary in style, also had some retro flair. As always, feel free to ask any questions you may have about the construction process or the techniques I used! Resources: T...

Making an 18th Century Pincushion: Ultimate Beginner Historical Sewing Project
Oh, I'm very happy I found your channel!
Please please please make a video on how to sew the 1780s corset!!! I just must have one, it’s amazing the one you showed us in this video, I love and I want to make one of my own!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ you’re amazing btw! An inspiration!
Pintrest has these AI generated flannel maxi skirts that are just awesome. Can’t find any IRL 😂. You gave me inspiration. 🧡
Gracie, how do you wash the skirt?
I found this video by Googling, "line a heavy wool skirt." You are so informative, so pleasant on camera. Your filming of your skills and techniques is excellent. I have what I hope is a constructive comment: I don't see anywhere that you back up so we can see the whole project. We never get a look at your plan; we never get a larger look at the fabrics; we never get a look at your layout, except at oblique angles, one piece at a time; I couldn't tell, initially, which fabric was lining, or fashion, I needed your pointer; we never see the finished garment in full. It winds up visually as somewhat bewildering. I'm going to check out your channel, you are a promising young person, and thank you for the video.
В таких туфлях на снегу ноги моментально промокнут, плюс скользко... И да, весь комплект одежды не выглядит достаточно теплым для малого ледникового периода 18 века, особенно с учетом окрытой шеи.
this was super helpful, i've been considering switching to corsets or stays for undergarments for a while now and this has mad me think stays would be better suited for my needs and tastes.
I appreciate how you showed a different side closure for a skirt. So tired of zippers being the only options shown in today’s sewing patterns.
You are so cool! And you are looking super cute in your outfit! Did you make the whole outfit or where did you get it from? I wonder how it was to use the restroom. This challenge I always have a hard time with womens-all! Thank you for your nice share! Love, Tatiana
nice to see a video of a woman dressing herself.
I just bought a new pair of pants with no pockets... jealous. I've spent the whole day holding things in my hands 😭. Why are women's clothes worse in 2024?
They were probably quite warm under their 52 layers of clothing
Now we know that recorders are meant to play a lot more than Mary had a litter lamb. Absolutely beautiful.
I have a really big bust a small rib cage and shoulder/back problems due to how the bras are made and the size of my bust, which stay would you say is the most supportive and comfortable on the back and bust that I can wear under normal clothing?
Sure would like for you to make a video how to make the overalls!!!❤❤❤ please
Thank you, this is gonna come in handy. I historically interpret as an enslaved woman at my local museum and just got some old curtains that I thought looked old enough for the era.
Remarkable work ❤
I’m wondering, how does the level of back/shoulder suppport change over the decades?
Went through my late aunt's pincushion and found thirty odd needles in it, can't remember anymore, but it was an impossible amount. Definitely recommend SMALL pincushions.😄
You look lovely in your new skirt and knitted cardigan. Well done!
Vielen lieben Dank für die tollen Videos. Leider kann ich kein Englisch, aber es ist trotz allem hilfreich.😅
your ending comment about flipping a petticoat about the head sounds like the Scottish woman's erasaid, the female version of the great kilt
Now way can you afford an open neck in winter
I love your channel and i adore your exhibition of the Bernie poster. 🐦
Its so nice to see young women sewing & im going to try to encourage my niece to begin sewing as well☺️
Getting dressed was such a task back then 😳
This was very helpful for this style of 40s collar, and I am not even using the same pattern… I’m making a playsuit. It’s nice to see a tutorial without video being sped up too.
Good, I liked the tension pillow idea
👍👍👍✌️👌😏😁😁😃😎🌹🌹🌹🌹💋💋
My god they were so restrictive but still just beautiful..
instead of hooks and eyes can I add a zipper?
Im making this smoking jacket as a present for my mother who has wanted one for decades. Where did you get your fabric? Thanks for this video!
The pattern books have zero camp shirts or simple blouses. It is a style waiting to boom for making attractive tops for jeans and shorts. I used to make them a lot with cute touches like big buttons or crochet but today can't find any patterns at all. Now with air conditioning getting more expensive the universal tee is a bit sweaty in hot weather. Thanks for this excellent talk...you're a good teacher.
Can you make me one😢
Why 4 layers? 🤔
Good job. To he point and not made into a five videos like other how to”s. Thank you.
I haven't got very far into the video yet, but just wanted to say your glasses are really cute! I often find that "cats eye" type frames are too big and overwhelm my face, which is especially annoying because of my strong-ish prescription that distorts my temples, but yours are just the right size! I stumbled upon your video because I'm in the process of making the 8447 trousers and I'm planning on the blouse next (or possibly a similar pattern I have from a book...or maybe both). Love the minty green colour!
thank you
Fabuloso, hermoso
Did she wear all she has as clothes(serious question)
This is such a good video! Thank you for sharing all your gorgeous pieces
One thing I am sure of 1940/50 sleeve hems, they are at least an inch deep, skirts about 3 inches deep. I don't do that for skirt hems any more but I have shortened sleeve hems some.
Amo tu trabajo.
Wow, that was wonderful!!! Great work. Really liked your collar and lapel changes. Very efficient.
It's currently mid-July in southern Louisiana and I have never been more certain that snow would fix ninety-nine percent of my problems right now
I love all your stays. 😊 They are so beautiful. 🥰
what do y'all use to lace your stays? my string keeps breaking. albeit I'm not using sturdy string, but i'd appreciate suggestions.
Hi, first of all, thanks for this video ! Really interesting, and all your stays are so beautiful !! The 1790s one looks so comfy ! I’m curious about the Augusta stays : did you use the size recommend by the pattern, or did you size down ? I just bought it and have no idea how big the gap in the back should be (made a toile for the curvy version of my size and ended up having a 10 cm gap which I find way too big) Edit : rewatching the video made realize that the answer of my question was in the video !! Sorry haha
15 mins to get dressed… I expect women wore most of this to be exert day. Btw, most women couldn’t afford silk under stockings!
Eh, I was going slowly so as to film the process. When I wore 18th century clothing daily, I was usually able to get dressed in 5-10 minutes. Silk in the 18th century was not necessarily expensive (especially not plain silk in common colors). We have extensive records of working class and enslaved individuals owning and wearing silk garments.
What do you use for the 1780s boning? Reed or synthetic whalebone?
I used synthetic whalebone
@@GraciePattenSewing Thanks 🙏!
