saw this last night and the director was here in sydney at the screening. Fantastic movie and its going to be a massive hit. BIGGEST SHOCK? The relevation that the monster isnt CGI.
Go back and rewatch the first because that shit is high-key hilarious. Didn’t really hit me until my 3rd watch of it though. It’s super dark and slightly subtle (slightly) but definitely funnier than this one. I thought a lot of the scares were derivative of the first ones and his floating upside down camera shots are his lens flairs. One scene near the end it felt almost parody when he did it so knowingly and bigly. Maybe it’ll be one that gets me with my third watch someday with is humor. Definitely enjoyed the film though! Finn and Scott are ones to watch out for in the future.
I just saw a smile too and I absolutely loved it😂😂😂❤ but there were some issues with me with the psychological part the fake outs with a smile demon in the ending I don't know how they're going to follow that up with that monster and the opening was badass 🔥🔥 8/ 10
I don't mind jump scares as long as they're done well and as long as that's not the only way the movie is trying to scare us. If there are other things that are creepy and keeping us tense, you can throw in the jump scares too. Always nice to see Bibbs! I agree with him maybe half the time at best (lol!) but his criticism is always well considered, and thoughtful. This seems like cool movie. Going to see it on Saturday. 😀 (super intentional smiley face!)
@ I’m in my late 20’s, not sure what classifies as “young” to you. If this is supposed to be a dig, can you name a few horror sequels other than Evil Dead 2 that are better than this?
@@caliban5505 don’t even pay attention. That’s a typical, generic ass response and they didn’t even care to elaborate their point. FOH, I bet they haven’t even seen either film.
I didn't catch the first one, so maybe that's why I loved this one, it was all new for me!! But I think it's above all thanks to Naomi Scott who was just fabulous, soooo good, and the music was great too, AND I was shit-scared!!! Yes and a few laughs too, I especially laughed right at the very end actually!!! I wasn't thrown by the opening sequence, I just went with it though I hadn't seen the first film, though I guess I knew the premise anyway, so I certainly figured out easily that there was a malevolent spirit he was trying to pass on to a bad guy!!
Nice Bev, glad to hear it! The guy in the opening scene played by Kyle Gallner is the police officer ex-boyfriend of Sosie Bacon's character from the first movie.
This movie had my nerves really frayed at the end. Definitely see it in a theater. It’s gross and full of jump scares. I thought it was really frightening. I had not seen the first one. They explain what’s going on midway through.
These films aren't on the same plain, but Naomi Scott's sense of paranoia, isolation and bewilderment recalls Catherine Deneuve in "Repulsion' and Roman Polanski in "The Tenant." Scott's Herculean performance is inspired and energetic.
Reminded me quite a bit of Polanski's Repulsion. Wish the ending had maintained the ambiguity of the POV of the main character> Is she insane? Possessed? Really enjoyed it, though. Naomi Scott will the next big thing.
Be AWARE!! This is a very psychological horror movie. This is Scariest movie I have ever seen in my life at Universal Studios Hollywood. Naomi Scott, the actor opens up the movie saying that is very immersive and I kid you not it very much is. I could tell you that I Iove a horror movie and this movie scared the living death out of me and I even cried because it was so scary. Mind you I’m 30 and this movie will have you on the edge of your seat. Also, this Movie is one that you’re Not going To be able to go to sleep right after it’s done.
There have been some great female horror performances this year. Lupita in A Quiet Place Day One, Naomi in this... Demi is overrated in Substance (that performance is camp)
I thought this was considerably better than the first one, which I didn't like at all. The first one just felt like an exercise of how many try-hard jump scares they could cram into one movie. This one is actually entertaining to watch and Naomi Scott is really good. There are still too many poorly-executed jump scares, but the movie overall is much better.
Had the opposite feeling. In the first one, there is setting up the rules and “origin”. This one is jump scares and bunch of warped realities and repeat.
I enjoyed the first movie, and Naomi Scott is great in this movie, but I hate this movie. Too many jump scare Too loud - saw it in AMC DOLBY … the jump scare music is deafening Too many pointless twists - by the end of the movie, I don’t really know what really happened. And I don’t think it matters. There is no world building in this movie or expanding the creature or the rules. The rules in the first movie? All out the window. Spoiler… Near the end of the movie, when she is escaping to Staten Island, she thought her friend rescued her. But in reality, she was driving the car herself? That is impressive driving for someone losing her mind or delusional? The monster was smart enough for her to stop at all the red lights from Manhattan? Did the monster kill her mom? Does it really matter? I do like the ending… as a performer, the monster has an excellent platform to infect thousands of people. But this is a disappointing movie. So many times, I was tempted to look at the clock to see when this movie will end. Too many cheap jumps with loud sounds, and repeat over and over.
The first one was boring so I'll be skipping this one. I don't watch a lot of horror movies but for the opposite reason as Alonso. I've seen too many in my life and they never scare me. I haven't been scared in decades. They usually just bore me.
2 out of 10 from me. Too long, too loud, too cringe, too many jumpscares and not truly scary. This could've been an A24 horror film. It’s filled with body horror, evil that makes the main character see things, and they are slowly going crazy. I am so tired of films like this, Late Night with the Devil, and Talk to Me.
+ also loved the ending here. + I think the casting is great. Kyle Gallner, Luke Gage and Peter Jacobson!!! I was so delighted to see Peter in this.
‘Can I swear here?’
‘FUCK YEAH YOU CAN!’
Love this channel 🎉🎉
Ha, thanks, we aim to entertain 😄
Glad to see this sequel got good scores, as we all know how sequels usually go, especially in the horror genre.
Great to see Bibbs again!
Always a pleasure when Bibbs shares his insights.
Went in expecting not much and came out thinking this was far superior than the first and gave me the substance vibes 😆

Really!? Where did you see that?
I saw it last night and loved it! Naomi Scott deserves an Academy Award!
I thought the same thing when I walked out of the theater!
GREAT REVIEW guys.
Also THE IDOL is really good! Not nearly as bad as ppl may make you think!
I don’t know if I’ll see it but this review definitely made me Smile.
I loved Will's take on the Smile movies. Great review

Very good movie, Christy. Love it.
This might be one of the greatest sequels of all time. It’s genuinely fantastic.
I liked the first one a lot, but this one is completely bat shit insane. Very fun watch. The opening sequence itself was awesome.
I'm assuming you're quite young?

The Idol is a masterpiece btw, easiest a top 10 series of the last 15 years

This movie was a blast , it might be as good as the first!
Naomi Scott? I thought that was Halsey.
Really happy for Scott. She deserves to be big.
First Strange Darling and now this, good year for Halsey.
I'm coming to the fog. I think I can make it. Breakfast All Day everyday😂😂😂

dang it, we now live in a world where Rosemarie DeWitt plays the mom roles. She always seemed so anti the mom role. She'll always be Midge to me.
I didn't see the first smile movie I'm thinking about seeing this one mixed reactions from other RUclips movie critics that are highly acclaimed

When Alonso retires, will there be a Jay vs Dave style controversy for his replacement?
Why would Alonso retire? It's not like he's an athlete...he's only a few years older than Christy anyway.
@@keefriff99 Just a joke because Alonso is always the one who is off doing something else when they aren't both there.

I honestly prefer the first one but I did enjoy Naomi's performance. That ending was soo predictable.
I was surprised that I enjoyed the first one, so this is good to hear... But I'll wait until it's streaming.
Her greatest role was the Pink Ranger from Power Rangers
The first smile was funny though?
hate when they make add comedy to a horror movie :C
