The bible actually full with literary masterpieces if you look at it in a non religiously way. Many great movies can be made about them. Cain and Abel is a metaphor for the conflict between the agricultural society and the sherped/nomadic society of that time. and many other stories have completely non-religious and meaningful meanings.
It's nice to see the human side, even though the Pharaoh is Moses' brother and had a 'cold heart', you can still feel that this hard-heartedness is part of his suffering, so we don't see him as 2-dimensional.
@@andrewfutterman3346 Funny thing is, he did that in this movie too, during the scene where the Egyptians are pursuing the Hebrews, there's a close-up shot of Rameses on his chariot, and he holds up his sword and goes "NYAAAAAAAA!"
As a Christian this movie touches my heart so much. I love every song and how well they told they story of Moses! I only have one question: Why isn't this movie a broadway play already????

It's so cool how Val Kilmer speaks his lines sitting down, with very little physical movement, while Ralph Fiennes is very physical in front of the microphone. Different acting techniques, both which led to amazing performances.

yup, I thought it was perfect as they had him be the voice of God in the burning bush as well, very soothing and had great presence, but wasn't bellowing. perfect
This movie is such a huge part of my childhood and heart. I may not believe and have the faith I had as a child, but this movie still brings me to tears. "I am the god of your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." That voice to me still makes me cry, and in my mind, that is god. Even if it is an actor in a studio. This is the god I was told loved me so much, and the god I wish so much I could feel again. Movies like this make me wish so much that he was real, as the kind, loving generous being I was brought up to believe, not the vengeful, awful, tyrant he's been found to be.
Survante, I don't know what kind of experiences you have had in life to make you believe that, but God IS that loving, kind and merciful being that you thought He was when you were young. This world has distorted your image of Him, but even so He's still there for you, waiting for you to turn back to Him, so that He can show you His wonders. It's not too late to go back to Him, He hasn't given up on you, because He loves you with a love that no human could begin to understand and his faithfulness to those who Trust in Him is from everlasting unto everlasting.
Survante Williams I couldn't agree more. I also have moved away from my faith in god, but that voice gives me chills every time. What a magnificent film!
He is real, and He loves you- His child- with all of His heart. He honestly wants the best for you. Im genuinely confused why you say that God is vengeful, tyrannical, ect. Im not trying to preach or be churchy, but based off my experiences with God, and that I know His character from building a relationship with Him, your statement honestly makes no sense to me. God is the MOST loving person I've ever known. Why do you feel He's vengeful and awful?
I don't know what you've gone through in life but I appeal to you to not get it twisted : GOD IS NOT a vengeful tyrant. HE is a GOD of justice, judgement, righteousness and holiness as much as HE is a GOD of love, mercy, kindness and patience. We don't condemn judges who dispense appropriate, lawful judgements to people who have been found to have committed crimes, why should we expect GOD to be any less?
If someone tells me that animated movies are only for kids, I’ll show him/her this. The amount of work behind every single scene to achieve such a magnificent masterpiece is impressive. It’s like a sequence of paintings coming to live, I miss 2D animation for this reason.
I love this movie so much. So awesome to see such prestigious actors and animators and directors involved in the making of this film. They truly have made a timeless classic, portraying a true story. Art.
"It's very reminiscent of theatre"-Val...thank God because ladies and gents they did a mildly staged version of Act 1 of this this summer at sag harbor theatre in NY last month...it's gonna be on stage!!! I nearly cried when I heard that...PLEASE for the love of all that's holy, let this be on Broadway!
I've some issues with the Brave movie BUT, as a whole I thoroughly enjoyed it and quite honestly I would love to see another movie like Brave again. It's not very often you see a movie b/w a mother and daughter like with goofy and his son in their own movie together. We really need more movies like Brave that can tell the growth and courage of a female character. Though recently there' moana. I was really worried bout it but I'm glad they didn't overdo the overprotective dad and rebellious daughter thing. It's a nice surprise to see that its a movie about a hero AND a protagonist working together, its like the hero is letting the protag of the story to be the main hero, very interesting angle. What i absolutely loved in Brave is both the mystery and the relationship b/w mother and daughter, the struggle, tension, emotions, and the closure. Much better than Frozen which fails on so many levels since Disney is redefining love and romance and marriage/committed relationships.
The amazing thing is (despite the liberties taken with the relationship between Moses and Ramses--although that's all very possible and plausible) this is a true story. That makes it all that more amazing
+TheVildee the way the depicted it yes, but who knows. The emotional dialogue between them and things they said definitely COULD have happened. But as always it's reading just a tad too much into it. It's not mainly about the story of the brothers it's about how God delivered his people
+Melonie Zappa See I would like to say that I am a Christian first of all. And second of all, you have to be very very ignorant to say that the emotion struggles the film focuses on did not or most likely did not happen. They grew up as brothers and as brother tend to do when they disown each other they DID go through heavy emotions DESPITE the bibles lack of saying so. I do not want or mean to insult you, I'm just saying that they MOST DEFINITELY did go through the struggles and emotions the movie focuses on
+Melonie Zappa Sorry to disappoint but it is likely that its not a true story. Beside the Bible we have no historical sources talking about a bunch of hebrew-slaves wandering away from Egypt. Seeing how the Egyptians where the most highly advanced culture of that time, we would probably have somebody writing about all of those plagues and the losing of a big part of the slavepopulation (Don't forget parting of the Sea, who wouldn't mention that?).
+GehirnWirrWarr Sorry to disappoint but there is a record of those plagues and Exodus. Google Egyptian record of Nile turning to blood. There are two links which are the first two one by the telegraph the other from got questions.
I’m an atheist, I’ve always been surrounded by believers and religious inputs, but I’m still an atheist. This movie is AMAZING. Everytime I watch it I get goosebumps and cry.
BY FAR. The second half of that scene has no dialogue. It's Hans Zimmer's beautiful score to visuals of Moses retelling what he had just experienced to his wife. It's so GOOD!
We were spoiled as children with this. I'm just now discovering how unbelievable this movie was, as I study the soundtrack, set pieces, actors, etc. It's so perfect, a period defining film. This is about as good as it gets, folks.
I may not have grown up religious, but this movie was part of my childhood and it was some of the things that eventually became the backbone of me respecting religions from around the world. I may not be religious, it doesn’t stop me from enjoying this gem of a movie
The fact that in "Schindler's list" Ralph Fiennes was given the role of Amon. And in one of the scenes he told Schindler " What are you, moses?" Is so funny because after that he was given the voice of Ramses in Prince of egypt 😂
6:10 "I've always liked the idea of playing Queens anyway" - Helen Mirren. Little did she know she'd play the role of Queen Elizabeth eight years later!
This is still like the only movie that makes me cry every single time watch it, and like 10 times during the whole movie. Grew up with this movie (know every line) and basically just died when I saw who plays in it. This movie is an absolute gift to the world.
The movie is a masterpiece. I'm not religious, so I don't see it from that perspective at all. But the animation! The art! The freaking MUSIC! So wonderful!
The songs are Schwartz's BEST bar none!! I do love Wicked very much, but this movie and it's music and songs are something truly special, this is proof that Schwartz can write just as well as Menken(whom I also adore to death) when he truly has the support system backing him up! Disney was unsupportive of him during this time in life in his life which is stupid and utterly cold hearted considering he had just written great lyrics for two of their previous movies...but you know...what we got was this masterpiece that was just as good, if not maybe a tad better than Disney ;)
It's 2023, and The Prince of Egypt might still be the most awesome animated movie to be made to this day. I mean, how could you expect otherwise ? Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Sandra Bullock, Patrick Stewart, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jeff Goldblum delivering one of the best dialogues with astounding authenticity, while music, chorus and lyrics were orchestrated by a more-efficient-than-ever Hans Zimmer. On top of that, we're having Fiennes, Pfeiffer, and many others who worked their hardest to actually SING those songs, even though part of them didn't get any training beforehand. THIS, my friend, is how you create an actual masterpiece.
This was the only thing that ever made me take any interest in the Biblical stories, downloaded it yesterday after having not seen or heard it for 20 odd years and I couldn't take my eyes or ears off it...
Rewatching The Prince of Egypt after The Ten Commandments makes me appreciate even more, the craft and dedication behind this stunning animated film. Even the discrepancy between the brothers’ relationship is beautifully depicted in both works. Commandments have Moses and Ramses as bitter rivals since the beginning, whereas P.O.E. beautifully and not deceitfully lulls the audience into a sense of security and good-natured humor between the brothers. They become enemies only after the POE Moses discovers the truth about his upbringing. Commandments Moses is seen by Ramses as second-best, from the get-go
Prince of Egypt is in the top ten of the best movies ever made. the movie is a work of art. I have never heard such beautiful song writing . the animation has a style and warmth that is rare and original. Simply outstanding and unforgettable.
Thank you so much for uploading this! I've never seen behind-the-scenes of this movie before. I just love this movie and "Joseph King of Dreams." They just don't make beautifully animated movies like this anymore.
Ofra Haza, what a great singer! Ralf Fiennes is excellent as Rameses, after "The Schindler's List" and "The English Patient". I cried a lot in these movies. I would never imagine the taugh guy of "Top Gun" (Val Kilmer) as Moses, but he was awesome!
I loved Ralph as Jesus in "The Miracle Maker", another lovely animated Christian film that I grew up with. It's a shame that it's not as well known as this one.
Yes. Now that I'm older, the Crucifixion and tomb scenes break my heart; the background music in those scenes hits you hard in the feels. I remember he played Amon Goeth in Schindler's List, which I haven't seen yet.
This isn't a children's movie. It's a masterpiece.

yup, I thought it was perfect as they had him be the voice of God in the burning bush as well, very soothing and had great presence, but wasn't bellowing. perfect
Jesus loves you
"I've always liked the idea of playing queens... anyway." Helen Mirren saying that back in the nineties brings a giggle to my throat.
holy crap how have i not known so many great actors were in this film
This movie is such a huge part of my childhood and heart. I may not believe and have the faith I had as a child, but this movie still brings me to tears.
"I am the god of your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."
That voice to me still makes me cry, and in my mind, that is god.
But he is kind. He is generous. God is love.
Hans Zimmer´s soundtracks are masterpieces
5:10. What an astonishing, heartbreaking delivery. Fiennes is awesome.
I've never been religious but I always loved this film from an artistic and musical standpoint. A real classic.
If someone tells me that animated movies are only for kids, I’ll show him/her this. The amount of work behind every single scene to achieve such a magnificent masterpiece is impressive. It’s like a sequence of paintings coming to live, I miss 2D animation for this reason.
The last good 2D movie was Brother Bear
Ralph Finnes is the most underrated actor alive
I love this movie so much. So awesome to see such prestigious actors and animators and directors involved in the making of this film. They truly have made a timeless classic, portraying a true story. Art.
This is the best Dreamworks movie in my opinion. The animation, cast, writing and soundtrack were all fantastic.
When you watch it, you can tell it was made with love. On every level.
It's beautiful and timeless..
Absolutely amazing
I seriously hope the animators/artists were paid the most for this film. What they did still boggles my mind.
shoutout to no one telling me that sandra bullock was in this movie. in retrospect, it was obvious.
Right, the voice was incredibly familiar
Even though this was my first glimpse of her talent, it was The Blind Side that made me a fan of Sandra
This is one of the most underrated films in cinematic history.
Amazing animation, amazing music, amazing story = Magic.
smamit2 the Bible stories I thought of adapting into animation would have to be Noah’s ark , Daniel and the lions den, Jonah and the creation
Helen Mirren always likes the idea of playing queen? Well, she sure was telling the truth!
Wait. Stephen Spielberg?!?!?!? Dude. Schindler's list. Prince of Egypt?.... Incredible.
Brenda Chapman co-directed this film? Wow. She later contributed to the 2012 Pixar film Brave as being the first female director to it.
Incredible. The sound track was so good too
The amazing thing is (despite the liberties taken with the relationship between Moses and Ramses--although that's all very possible and plausible) this is a true story. That makes it all that more amazing
+Melonie Zappa You think the relationship between Moses and Ramses in the film is the most unlikely phenomenon to have happened in real life?
I do not want or mean to insult you, I'm just saying that they MOST DEFINITELY did go through the struggles and emotions the movie focuses on
+Melonie Zappa
Sorry to disappoint but it is likely that its not a true story.
I think that no one could portray Moses as well as Val Kilmer, this is hands down the best portrayal of Exodus
I’m an atheist, I’ve always been surrounded by believers and religious inputs, but I’m still an atheist. This movie is AMAZING. Everytime I watch it I get goosebumps and cry.
The burning bush is the best scene
BY FAR. The second half of that scene has no dialogue. It's Hans Zimmer's beautiful score to visuals of Moses retelling what he had just experienced to his wife. It's so GOOD!
Cry every time!
We were spoiled as children with this. I'm just now discovering how unbelievable this movie was, as I study the soundtrack, set pieces, actors, etc. It's so perfect, a period defining film. This is about as good as it gets, folks.
RIP Val Kilmer voice. It was so eloquent.
A story like this will never be told in the mainstream media ever again. The current state of the world will never allow that
It’s driving me nuts. Especially as I’ve learned to appreciate this more than I should have as a kid. Mainstream media has been corrupted
This is still like the only movie that makes me cry every single time watch it, and like 10 times during the whole movie. Grew up with this movie (know every line) and basically just died when I saw who plays in it. This movie is an absolute gift to the world.
And just noticed, it was made in the same year that I was born in :O
My cousin sang the part of Moses.
This was the only thing that ever made me take any interest in the Biblical stories, downloaded it yesterday after having not seen or heard it for 20 odd years and I couldn't take my eyes or ears off it...
How is it fair in any world that such a great voice actor as Kilmer has lost his voice. I'm heartbroken.
Batman married Catwoman before facing off with Voldemort in Egypt lol
I love Val Kilmer so much. The fact he doesn’t even have this beautiful voice anymore breaks my heart.
Man y’all don’t understand how much I really really loved this film!!!!
The songs and story still make me cry, so incredibly well done, and powerful
Helen Mirren, 6:09: "I've always liked the idea of playing queens anyway." Just you wait... ;)
The music is incredible in this film. I remember just being in awe with the opening scene so captivating.
I HAD NO IDEA WHO WAS IN THIS MOVIE HOLY SHIT WHAT A CAST
Steve Martin and Martin Short are so awesome
I can just imagine Aaron running from the Pharaoh saying "must go faster, must go faster"
Easily one of my favourite films, and watching this now shows how much effort, love, and time went into it to make it happen. LOVE it.
Hans Zimmer, my hero of music.
The single best example of the finest ensemble cast in cinema history. This is THE gold standard
Such a beautiful movie. One of my favorites for sure.
I watch this over and over! Our God is SO faithful. Everyone involved in making this movie - THANK YOU so very much!!!!
Thank you so much for uploading this! I've never seen behind-the-scenes of this movie before. I just love this movie and "Joseph King of Dreams." They just don't make beautifully animated movies like this anymore.
This is my favorite movie, the best DreamWorks has ever made.
It's a shame that it's not as well known as this one.
elsa1942 I know that movie, I have seen it once. Ralf is most known from 1990's films, so the most of his first movies are quite forgotten
Yes. Now that I'm older, the Crucifixion and tomb scenes break my heart; the background music in those scenes hits you hard in the feels.
I remember he played Amon Goeth in Schindler's List, which I haven't seen yet.
elsa1942 I remember that scene, it was very moving
Yes, he did! You should see it!
Anastasia Pat yeah
Still watching and loving the soundtrack in 2022, I have loved this movie since 98 and I love introducing my children to this awesome movie.
Yo the girl who plays Yocheved is so beautiful I swear
That's Ofra Haza. A legendary vocalist in the Middle East.
Fiennes does such a good job sounding like Patrick Stewart. It blows me away every time
This film moves me from start to finish
This movie is LITERALLY a masterpiece. Why does is not get any recognition
