You have broken an important rule: You should not be more gorgeous than the bride.
Lol
Aw thanks :) but... you should’ve seen the bride 👰🏻😍
She will always be better looking than the Brides.
Alan Johnstone LoL thx
Absolutely right
@@VanessaJoy Most Welcome Vanessa
I'm just an amateur slug photographer and would never do what you do, but I found this very interesting. Every bride's mother should watch this, and maybe they would appreciate all the work that goes into shooting a wedding. You really are expert at this.
Ha so true
Thank you Vanessa Joy, these are some very helpful tips!
Glad you like!
I only take my 35,50,85 an 100 mm macro to weddings. I own a 70-200 mm f2.8 IS II but I don't like to carry it all day. And indoors it might not be 'fast' enough.
Vanessa at it again with the fire!!!
Love the idea with the Instax prints! Do you have a link for the accordion folders on Adorama?
I don’t think they have them anymore 😞 I use Amazon
@@VanessaJoy Boo! That's why I couldn't find them!
Wow! This is a lot of equipment and everything is very organized :-O It seems, that you are prepared for all situations! Very professional!
Really interesting and appreciated Venessa, a proper photographer vid.
I love the card-to-gallery idea. I think I will use that idea if you don't mind. Thank you for this video!
Wow! That's a lot of gear!
Yeah I have a problem lol
@@VanessaJoy you don't have a problem, you're a real photographer, that's what you are😁 real photographers carry gear
J Bello Aw why thank you 😊
@@VanessaJoy is it essential/necessary to bring all of that? I got anxious by just watching the video lol you should do a wedding! To see the process behind with the gear
Constanza Grgurina LoL I do use all of it. But I do have to show my updated gear haul soon
This was such a great video. Very informative, enjoyable to watch...You have a very positive presence. I Would love to watch a full day wedding event by you, with all the behind the scenes stuff and technical/gear talk
that is definitely a goal... lol we actually had it scheduled for filming in May, the couple agreed to it and everything... and then COVID happened... :-(
Vanessa Joy I know, this pandemic sucks. It creates a holdup for everything. My plan was to get into wedding photography ( as a second shooter for now) and set it as my main income in the next 2-3 years. Now it is postponed unfortunately. But anyway Best wishes for you 😊
paweL Pawlowski same to you!
@@VanessaJoy yeah covid sucks it ruins everything. But that video would be cool and interesting.
I love the business cards with the engagement photos. Great way to drive traffic!
Very nice kit. I wanna be like Van!
Question: Why no 24-70 and also, thoughts on the Canon 600ex-ii rt vs Profoto A1. Why you prefer the A1?
vertical cell phone orientation for RUclips kills all the joy in watching. they came up with the 16:9 a short while ago ... it works really well ;)
Read the description...
This is so great! Thank you for showing us what you bring to a wedding. I always am afraid that we overpack but seeing your gear is really helpful!
OMG! Vertical smartphone video!
OMG! such a useful video! ty!
Q: How much gear do you bring? Vanessa: Yes! 🤷🏼♀️😅
Honestly, I know photographers who will take only your back-up-bag all day, but you got a decent set!
Lots of useful tips and Inspiration here as well! Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Even though I don't wear dresses I did find lots of good info, especially your methodical approach to using primes.
I use the 35mm and 85mm (two bodies) all the way up to the ceremony and then I'll switch to the 70-200mm f/2.8 (sometimes even for first look) and maybe the 24-70mm.
...and I'll pass the dress info along to others who can use it.
Why bring too much Heavy gear with you? What happen if you got stolen? Keep it as simple as possible and travel light. I get rid of all my DSLRs. To me 2 cameras mirrorless bodies and 3 lenses: 35mm f1.4, 135mm f2, 100mm f2.8 macro. That's it!
Insurance.
Hi Vanessa, for photography only. How many people do you bring as minimum in your team for a wedding when bringing your extra equipment? (second shooter, lighting assistant etc) thanks
I always have a second photographer (doesn't really help with gear) and an assistant (who only helps with gear and doesn't shoot)
a spare groom in case the first one changes his mind
LOL
why is the model showing a photography gear? :D ;) nice :D I was sure you started using R5 already or r6 at least :P
Great video, full of good advice and experienced tips. The personalized business cards at each setting is a smart marketing technique.
Portrait is for Photos.
NOT VIDEO.
Great video, but film in landscape!
See description 😉
Always nice to see your videos 🤩🤗. Will you be using R5/R6 in your future wedding shoots ?
Shooting my first wedding with the r5 this weekend :)
Vanessa Joy oh wow 🤩 that’s amazing. Looking forward to hear about that in your videos ☺️☺️👍
Last 6 weddings I shot, there was NO time for same day editing. Wedding to reception was
That definitely happens sometimes. I usually do it during toasts and then dancing since you really don’t need two photographers to cover those things
Lots of photographic equipments you got for wedding photography And is ok to have them if you got a Assistant to help you and if you don’t have one then is going to be difficult and making sure you don’t loose them
And that’s one of the many reasons why having an assistant with me on wedding day is one of the best investments I make ☺️
Jeez! That's so much stuff! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Looks like you are taking everything including the kitchen sink to shoot this wedding.
I hope you are getting properly paid.
I am :)
@@VanessaJoy iif this was war you would have won the battle before it starts
Hard life for a hard-working girl. But I hope those energy bars sweeten it all.
It's a shame RUclips still does not support vertical videos for smartphones.... Thanks for the tour!
That would be a nice addition
Way to much to do at weddings think I stick to peoples pets.............but given me a few ideas i can adopt .......top video again
Glad you got something from it :)
Great video. Maybe only thing you don’t have is sensible shoes to support ur knees and hips etcfor the long haul
😂 you must not shop for women’s shoes much. There doesn’t exist such a thing that looks good too. If you find it do share!
CIAO PHOTOGRAPHY OK Vanessa Joy
I've filmed about 200 weddings and I've never seen a photographer dress that well. Most of the time a photographer's outfit includes yoga pants. I'm very impressed.
Anyone wearing yoga pants to a formal event should be immediately kicked out. Especially if they're a "professional" hired to provide a service at said event.
Need that case turns into a dolly. You don’t have a backup body with you. Just in case?
I do have one :)
LOL...a photographer who used a phone to film in vertical mode not landscape.
It was originally filmed for Instagram - aka vertical. A good photographer knows how to film for the medium. And a good marketer knows how to repurpose useful content. What can we say you’re good at here? Being incorrectly judgmental?
Wow that’s a lot of gear. If i had to pack all this equipment I wouldn’t do wedding photography.
“Have to” isn’t the issue. Lol I think the issue is a personal one for me 😉
Vanessa Joy your work is amazing though.
Fun to see your gear list and glad to know I’m on a similar gear set up for weddings and now I’m not thinking maybe I have to much. I actually got me a little wagon for portrait shoots to help carry things like soft boxes, some gear and step stools etc. That’s something I wish I had gotten much sooner lol. Totally enjoy your videos 😊
Glad it was helpful!
I wonder how it changed since you started using the 28-70 f2 lens 👀
Oh it sure did!!!
Very good video, but DAMN girl is all that gear necessary?
It doesn’t go unused 🤷🏻♀️
Would love to see a video of you in action using all that gear.
You have the passion of what you work with 👍
Truly love this useful video, such great information for photographers who are starting from someone who has great experience. Truly love the way that you dress for the wedding and how you blend in so perfectly. Thank you for sharing this with us !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can you provide a link to the family list you mentioned? I didnt see it listed.
bit.ly/familyjoylist
How much more simple shooting weddings was when I used to shoot them on film.
Ha same
At what point in the wedding do you do the edit to print the images and give them to the couple?
During cocktail and throughout the reception when I have little moments :)
Did I miss what you use inside reception halls for lights?
Bounce flash mostly :)
I’m doing photography as a hobbie but I’m looking into doing photography as a job. Do you recommend any gear for beginner photographers
I’d probably start with a mirrorless camera like the Canon R or R6 (depending on budget) and the rf 50mm 1.8 / 85mm f/2
@@VanessaJoy thanks for the advice
For the life of me I can't find any oinformation on where to purchase that porter case - case. Did something happen to that company? Is there anything similar to this concept?
I think they went out of biz 😞
@@VanessaJoy bummer, I love that concept. Do you know of any other bag that can fill this void?
You look foxy in that dress
link to the dress please!
hello how r u My Name is Rajnikant Prjapati from India.I am a Wedding photographar i saw u r bag video pls say me which bag u use in this video and name of company u use bag thanks
It’s a portercase. I don’t think you can get it anymore e
@@VanessaJoy thanks
Where's os place i buy a bag i am indian
And Vanessa has become my RUclips mentor, when I need something and search I’d say 99% of the time is a Vanessa video helping me
Thanks for the video! What is the name of the dress? where did you get it, link, please, I love it!
It was a beta brand dress and they don’t make it anymore. I was fortunate enough to buy two, but I wish I had bought five!
Actually search on Poshmark for “Betabrand no sweat cocktail dress”, there’s a few there!
Where do u get the Kawa strap ?? Love your videos !!!!!!!!!
I finally have an answer for you about my camera strap! creative-teacher-9768.ck.page/1fb5eeedd8 this will be VERY limited so lmk here if you want to know when it's available!
I wish I could learn all of this. I’m new at it. 12 weddings so far but I’m boring. I shoot and have a flash for the reception. I edit at home. I love the idea of the mini accordion album!
What's the strap you use? I have a 1ds mk3, so that would be ideal. Currently only have 24-105 but want to get a prime or portrait lens was thinking of the 100mm macro?
Very professional
someone cares....you really look gorgeous in that dress
So nice of you to say 😊
you got so many great ideas! I got an instant HP printer (for xmas) to use at wedding days. Can't wait to use it like you do! x
I have the 70/200 2.8 mark 3 , I love it
yayyyy
Wow! That's a lot of gear to hump around!!! Then i realised, I'm just as bad, if not more!! I suppose you don't notice so much when it's all staggered throughout the day and evening. Looking lovely by the way.
I really recomend you the line of tamron lenses V2, the 35mm f1.4 have a really good, semi macro capability, so you can do "macro" photos with that lens without carry a macro lens, the 45mm f1.8 is a really good lens the perfect nifty fifty, and the marvelous 70-200 V2 is a magnificent lens.
Starting with your top versatile rigid case, it was an amazing video! Tks for sharing, great clicks 4u. See ya
Stunning beautiful❤❤❤
I want to know more about the dress! (You look gorgeous in it, by the way), but I've searched and can't find it. Thank you!
I'm waiting for the kitchen sink.
You missed it??? That was around the part with the granola bars 😉
i stopped watching this video for the gear once she showed canon DSLR, not mirrorless. I continued watching it just to watch Vanessa :))
😂 this was filmed in 2018... things have changed basically after this past weekends weeding
@@VanessaJoy any follow up video after this one? Wonder what gear you use today. Or before pandemic
Teuku Rizal Djohan I’ll definitely do one soon... esp now that I think I’ve figured out what my gear decisions are :)
@@VanessaJoy leaning towards RF series i bet. Since you have many L series already 😁
Beauty!! Dont roll those wheels over your toes....
Lol always a concern
Awesome video. Very interesting. Thank you.
My pleasure 😇
What a lovely video. You're a very beautiful woman and fantastic photographer. Keep up the good job!
Shot in portrait meh
Wow... youre amazing. I'm extremely enjoying your content!
Gaff tape
Haha never bring it
@@VanessaJoy how dare u not have gaff tape with you 😂
popcorn param lol I know
Really like the insta photo idea going to use that
Do it!
Wow, that is a lot of stuff! And I thought I brought a lot of gear to the shelter, lol. I do believe I saw this before in Instagram? Thanks for showing us your gear. Maybe your husband should do a time lapse video of you all shooting the wedding. After an exhausting day you would probably get exhausted all over again watching it, :)
Excellent video. Very well thought out kit. I have to find the pics from the wedding.🔥💖
Very interesting video and you look gorgeous
Thanks 😊
Do you still sell the far green country action
I have these instead now: presets.breatheyourpassion.com :)
Where did you get your Kawa strap?...
I finally have an answer for you about my camera strap! creative-teacher-9768.ck.page/1fb5eeedd8 this will be VERY limited so lmk here if you want to know when it's available!
Did you ram raid Adorama... So much equipment 😊
20 years in the industry:)
@@VanessaJoy Crikey :-)
You are a real photographer... not just a girl and a camera 😉 you know all about gear... nothing can stop you
First of the all...the dress was very important. Pockets?! Gag!
OMG. all this stuff, i have only one camera with one extra Zoom, I'm sorry for myself.
Good Video, while watching this during the airplane flying over you one flew over my house. Have a Good Weekend Vanessa.
Did you film with a smartphone because of R5 overheating issues? 😉
Good video
What lens do you use to shoot the ceremony ?
I love the 135 f/2
awesome
Thanks so much for this video. This was super helpful. Gives me an idea of gear to get.
Why don't you shoot EOS R5 or 1DX mark III?
This is an older video. Will update once I decide which camera I want ultimately :)
@@VanessaJoy great! Look forward for your new video! But surprisingly you can handle 1DX camera for whole day shooting! How you did that?
So the light stands ????
I bring two 12’ manfrotto stackables
You look stunning. Also very creative marketing of your business.
Vanessa is intensely professional. Truly floored. Just Incredible.
shame that it's filming vertically. not very smart the cameraman
Look at the description...
Vanessa Joy aaaaah ok!;-) I did not read it that it was initially for insragram !;-) sorry !!!;-)
David Aelbrecht no worries. I have a lot
of great content I’ve done there that I can put here so I’m testing it’s receptiveness... so far it’s been really good, but it is annoying to look at IMO
You leave nothing to chance and think of everything ahead of time. It is clear how hard working and dedicated to your business you are. I don't think I've seen a photographer as professional as you, and your pictures I've seen from other videos speak volumes about your talent and skill.
I really appreciate you saying so!
Great video. I carry power bars and Advil in my kit too.
You probably know this but the word Kawa means “skin” in Japanese and probably refers to “leather” 😁 it was nice to hear a Japanese word from you 😆
