8/10
The vowels aren't a problem to me at all!
The difference between ㅅ and ㅆ though...
And between ㅈ and ㅊ
They sound literally the same to me ㅠㅠ
Saaaammmeee😭
Same
It's not same i think 쉬었어요 쉬웠어요 are same
sameeeee
Same ones as me.
I got 7/10 right, the difference between ㅈ and ㅊ is the hardest for me.
Same ㅈ and ㅊ are hard for me too 🤷♂️
Omg same! 자 and 차 sound exactly the same to me lol(😭😭)
Yes they do but the difference in their pronounciation is 자 is ja whereas 차 is cha. It's quite easier for me as we have these pronounciation is my native language Hindi too
Not only did they sound the same, I heard it as a “T” sound. Lemme try again
For me it is between double consonants ㄲ and normal ones ㄱ
I have been studying Korean for 5 years and I can't hear a difference at all 🙃 I'm going to cry
“ These berries look different from the others.“
“독 같아요!“
“Oh, they’re the same? That’s great!”(Eats some berries and dies…)
발음이 중요하군요!!!
Yeah that’s why you have to listen for the stress on the syllable 😂
would you please make this kind of content again in the future? i kinda addicted to this. Thank so much TTMIK💕
I couldn't hear any difference between 샀어 and 쌌어, also I thought you meant 쌌어 as in pooping not wrapping, so I read it as "I pooped kimbap" LOL
Lolol
@은혜 they're so similar 🥴 the ㅆ tends to be the hardest double consonant to differentiate for ppl who moved to Korea.. even ppl who lived for years!
Same here... I am so terrible at hearing the difference.
yes haha, Jolly got me confused about this lol
@@lya8771 LOL ikr 😂 keun ddong ssasseo hahaha
I had 8 out of 10 right, but 자 and 차 was more guessing than knowing 😅. It´s still difficult for me to hear any differences between 발 - 팔 and 쌌어오 - 샀어요.
자 is pronounced as ja whereas 차 is pronounced as cha. 사 and 싸 is difficult for me too
Me too
At the begin of the word, ㅍ has higher pitch than ㅂ
You’re telling me korean emergency operators can hear the difference between “발이 아파요” and “팔이 아파요”?!? 😐😐😐 not to mention “빨리… 아파요…” 🥲
Yes
Incredible, huh? They must have bionic hearing.
🤣🤣🤣😅
@@riaconradt2554 Hahahahahahaha!
발 has more of a B sound, 팔 has more of an airy P sound, and 빨리 just sounds completely different 🥲idk how to explain it AHH
and not to mention, 발이 and 팔이 sound more similar than 빨리 because theres the "리" rather than the "이"
so BAL EE and PAL EE compared to BBALLEE (the BB sounds just like the PPA part in appa/이빠, if theres a pronounciation confusion)
the rolling of the r is VERY different when theres another ㄹ
im not a korean teacher or anything so im being really confusing sorry 🥲
샀어 and 쌌어 will always be near impossible for me, unless the person is trying REALLY hard to make them sound different I cannot hear it at all :')
No way their different right. I believe what I believe it depends on the context 😂😂👍
I find that the difference is in the vowel after, it's like it's more strong or forced when it's comes after ㅆ, ㅍ, ㅃ etc., maybe a bit higher pitch
@@simoroshka yep, that's how my tutor explains it to me. The ㄲ,ㄸ,ㅉ ,ㅃ are higher pitched with a throat tensing, and it lingers to the vowel after those sounds. So the vowels after are higher pitched slightly as well (like you can hear it in 까지 and 때).
I'm usually fine with ㅃ,ㄸ,ㄲ pronounciation but I'm still struggling with ㅉ. I can hit it in 짱 but not much else.
This is a great exercise to hear pronunciation differences - I have some correct but others will need more practice 😄
This was a really, really good exercise because I couldn't use context to "cheat" like I usually do for dictation-type exercises, since all answers could have been appropriate.
Solid 3/10. I think I passed.
발 and 팔 sounds same 🤷🏻♀️ but I guess in context will be understood
the ㅍ is an aspirated consonant , pronounced like it plain counterparts but with strong aspiration. In Korean, aspirated consonants must be pronounced with a burst of air just like for the p sound in “pin”. Listen again 화이팅
Yes they do sound same. There's a small difference in their pronounciation. 발 is bal whereas 팔 is pal. It's difficult
@@pawankumar-uc4yd @pawan kumar I prefer saying 발 is more like pal and 팔 like ppahl (so 1) the p is intense(tense consonant /+ 2) aspurated(u proununce it with a burst of air..I hope it's clear
@@rohseungyeon hmm it's hard to tell the accurate sound with romanisation
6/10 Especially difficult are the different consonant variations. Especially when the weakest one is at the beginning of a word. Sounds like the stronger one to me.
10/10, but I guessed on the 차/자 because they are hard to tell apart at the beginning of a sentence. It's my 8th year of studying Korean and 아직도 너무 어려워요!
I was pretty hopeless.. only got three right... are there points for turning up? 😆
I got six right and I´ve been studying Korean on my own for about three weeks. Love it! Your videos are fantastic!!
차/자 part is the hardest, I couldn't distinguish them at all, esp if it appears in the beginning of a sentence
I found it hard to hear the differences between 자 and 차, and 발 and 팔. 쌌어오 and 샀어요 was also hard, but I was able to differentiate the two of them.
Same same
I always felt like saying „Please repeat“ after every sentence they read but they never repeated... Still got 8 right. Yes, please. More content like this.
10/10 🥲
For people struggling with ㅈㅊ think of ㅈ as the sound -tch when you say the word "batch". Say batch, then move your mouth and whisper it. Feel where your mouth stops before you say -tch and instead, say 자. Next say ㅊ as -ch. Then say "batch cherry" - say it slowly so you can hear and feel the difference. Hope that helps :)
*자 is NOT ja!* Please don't pass along inaccurate info if you don't know. These are not familiar English sounds. To us L and R have a totally different sound. To Japanese people, they hear no difference. There is a difference but we're not conditioned to it yet. It's okay! Take your time. Attempt to reposition your mouth to say non-English characters properly. ㅉ is closest to j.
I still have trouble hearing ㅆ and ㅅ but I've gotten a little bit better at it.
I think i answered confidently only 3 🙈 (오이, 의미, 쉬웠어요) and 3 could not hear the difference no matter how much i repeated it lol (쌌어요/샀어요-자/차- 독같아요/똑같아요)
I got 8/10 ! It's hard for me to hear any differences between 수료 and 수려 👀
I am terrible with dictations... but getting better as time and practice goes..
Got 8/10 correct :)
Nice!
5/10. i've reached intermediate reading and writing, but my pronunciation is sometimes weird and my listening without context (random sentences like this) is also not that developed
Surprisingly, I got all the questions right in one go😁
Wow , such an awesome exercise! I loved this exercise it helped me a lot. I got everything right except the 4th one - '수료했어요'. This was a new word for me but I learned it beacuse of this exercise . TTMIK , 감사합니다❤️
ㄱ or ㄲ, ㅅ or ㅆ, ㅈ or ㅊ - these three pairs always confuse me.😢
Even when i can hear the difference I can't pronounce differently myself TT
차 and 자 are so confusing for me. I don't hear any difference, except 차 being a slightly higher pitch, so I can only tell them apart if I hear both words and can compare. In case of individual word I can never tell which one it is.
Yes they do sound the same. There's a small difference in their sounds. 자 is ja whereas 차 is cha
@@pawankumar-uc4yd on top of that sometimes pronunciation also varies from person to person even among native speakers, especially for Korean. Unfortunately, in this video the only difference I can pick is in pitch, I couldn't hear "ja" or "cha" sounds.
@@caledonia1517 I heard somewhere that apparently Koreans also mostly distinguish them by pitch. I have a hard time hearing pitch so I really need to practice that lol
I know right? Even when they're trying to make them sound different the only difference I hear is in pitch, which is kinda useless to me when I'm not comparing them one after the other. But there must be something I'm not catching because they seem to be able to make the distinction
Let's leave the stress 😂 if would be easier if we were musicians 😂😂
10/10 만점!! 유익하고 재밌는 컨텐츠를 항상 만들어주셔서 감사합니다 티티믹❤️톡톡
9/10, ㅂ and ㅍ got me confused there. this not only help me in listening but adds more words in my vocabulary too! thank you as always!
1. 굴
2. 오이
3. 자
4. 수료
5. 샀어요 @.@
6. 정상
7. 똑같아요
8. 쉬웠어요
9. 발 @.@
10. 의미
Okay, just tried it. I cannot really distinguish certain words but some of the answers I got it right based on the context as I know what it means for the word. Some I got it right by guessing. Anyways, I like this listening exercise. I find it helpful! 감사합니다 티티믹 선생님!! 😄😆😁
The vowels were pretty straightforward, but I struggle with ㅅ/ㅆ mainly. I hear the difference when the minimal pairs are spoken, but not always in a single word in a sentence.
to really understand the difference between each sounds is the amount of time with each articulation and how restricted the sound you make with your make like ㄸ sounds shorter and punctured while ㄷ is long gone and articulation. that's what i use to help me with learning each
tbh i'm proud to get 8/10 considering that all this time i've been studying all by myself and i barely got to speak with natives (only through some apps). 자/차 and 수료 got me ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
i wish you had more videos like this! thank you
YaAy!!! I got 10/10!!! 💯👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 🎉 🎊
9/10🥳
I have learned only Korean alphabets ..I can't understand whole sentences..😭😭..I really want to learn whole Korean...but it's to hard to learn Korean from beginning in daily busy schedule as med. stu. 😭..this types of videos will definitely help me a lot ...thanks for creating videos like that..and I hope u will do that for us like who can't take a proper Korean language classes..thanks a lot...🙏🙏🙏
i got them all correct! My many months of practicing reading hangeul but not being able to move forward with the other lessons has finally paid off lol
Hi talk to me in korean! I already finished watching this video, and I have a request can u pls make a video of difference between 일단, 먼저, 첫, and 처음....... 감사합니다 ❤️
Omg, i'm just starting with korean but i got 7/10. I'm so excited
Got 7/10 but 자를 and 차를 was very confusing. Can you please do such pronunciation videos ..please....love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳❤️ . Thank you for such a thoughtful video
7/10 For me 수료 and 수려 was the most difficult one ^^;; but I can hear the difference after 2nd listening. With words like these it's always easier in the context, but still it's a really good practice, makes you really pay attention to details. I hope you will make more of these. 감사합니다!
7/10 - ㅈ and ㅊ are the hardest to distinguish. Got this one right but the ㅂ and ㅍ sound in 발 and 팔 - both sounded very similar after yeji said both together (difference was intonation for the word but the 'p' sound seemed nearly identical)
8/10. #3 and #7 are what I struggled with. They were complete guesses lol. ㅈ and ㅊ, ㄸ and ㄷ are hard for me to distinguish. Everything else I was confident on! Thanks for the practice video!
ㅅ and ㅆ sound exactly the same to me even after you pronounced both of them. I get ㅈ and ㅊ confused sometimes, but I could hear the difference after they were pronounced.
This was great!! I'd love to see a part 2, thank you so much!! ❤️❤️
7/10! Didn’t expect that result, it’s a great exercise! My mistakes helped me determine what I should focus on 😊
Thank you 🙏🏻
I'm convinced that ㅅ and ㅆ are the same. ㅂ and ㅍ are pretty close
I've just recently started learning, and was so happy I was able to get 8/10 correct listening to this! I would love to see more content like this - it was very helpful and fun.
For everyone confused about number 3. ㅈ is pronounced as a ㅊ when it starts the sentence. Otherwise, the difference is clearer than that
Lovely video! Please turn this into a series!
i got 9/10! the first one got me. recognizing the pitch differences with ㄱ & ㄲ were difficult
9/10! I'm proud of myself^^
The difference between ㅈ and ㅊ is the hardest for me to hear.
10/10! Didn't expected that tho.
Plz make more difficult listening test plz.
I got 7 right. ㅅ / ㅆ and ㅈ / ㅊ are some of my biggest struggles to hear the differences. Also, whenever a ㄹ is with a "y" vowel... I'm not just on the struggle bus, I'm driving it. I can hear them okay but struggle with pronunciation (unless I hear someone say it before me)
Omg i got everything 🙈🤩💃please do this more often. It’s very challenging 😅❤️
These listening tests are so helpful, thank you! Please make more videos like this one!
I've got 9/10 right. Please do more of those! I have many issues distinguishing between ㅂ and ㅍ
I was surprised to get 100% ^-^ thank you for this test. Some differences were very subtle though. Are the differences very obvious for Koreans or do they talk so fast (during natural speech) that they don't notice most of the time?
Omggggg these are amaaaaaaaazing!! Please keep making them 💖
Please do more of these! Its really helpful.
I'm pleasantly surprised I got them all right, I wasn't expecting that 😅
This was incredibly fun to do though ^^
Thank you for having fun with us!
This is a great type of video, I hope you do more!
I can’t do the double consonants to save my life. ㄲ,ㄱ; ㅅ,ㅆ; ㄷ,ㄸ; ㅂ,ㅃ; ㅈ,ㅉ are really difficult. But the aspirated ones like ㅌ,ㅋ,ㅍ, ㅊ are becoming easier for me.
I got 8/10 btw :)
Hi!! I'm new here.
I've been studying korean for the past 8 month, korean is very interesting. I love it.
I got 9/10
ㅅ and ㅆ is still a little bit difficult for me
I got 8/10 correct. The hardest pair to differentiate for me was ㄸ and ㄷ (똑 and 독 sounded exactly the same I swear), ㅊ and ㅈ were also a problem for me, but I think I can understand the difference now.
Although a few seemed easy, I definitely need more practice. Thank you for videos like this one which compares close sounding words.
Salut les gens !
Merci à toute l'équipe de Talk To Me In Korean !
Encore merci ❤️
Yeji is SO PRETTY!! 너무 미인이셔 가지고 Great video guys!
interesting excersice! thank you TTMIK :) 6/10 is better than i thougt haha... maybe next time, you can repeat the sentence before saying the answer. i hope you make more videos like this!!
10/10, but there again, I'm Australian and this video was mostly specifically aimed at American transference problems. The most difficult was definitely 쌌어요/샀어요 - pretty sure I arsed that one, as I hear basically no difference, even after 2 1/2 years :-(((. I think that's difficult for all English speakers, regardless of accent. The difficulty from Australian accent is NOT ㅗ/ㅓ (easy from the Australian accent), but ㅗ/ㅜ. ㅗ/ㅜ is difficult from an Australian accent. Could you possibly do videos for difficulties from other accents? Other than only American accents all the time? There is already so much material aimed at American accent transference.
yo awesome video, happy to say I got a 10/10! I love what you guys do for the community of Korean learners! 감사합니다!!
i only missed #7 but i understand why! i’m starting to understand the logic behind these sounds and i’m improving a lot!
9/10 and I've been learning from RUclips and kdrama just for fun 🤣but ㅊ and ㅈ is very difficult to tell apart especially when it's in the start of the sentence.
very tricky. i assumed some because the words are more commonly used certain ways
8/10!! Not bad for being hearing impaired. I think I could've gotten one more right if I saw a mouth... Still happy with my progress though!
I got 10/10 but i feel anxious every single time i make the choice 😅 every pair sounds reeaaally similar
I finished it and 10/10. ㅊ and ㅈ is hard. But I knew the difference of it. ㅊ has the sound of tsa and ㅈ do have the sound between ja and cha.
i was really confused with ㅈ and ㅊ... 9/10.. i hope TTMIK post more like this ...ahm, for free 🥲
You guys are awesome. This is a great learning exercise
Plss do more videos like this coz we need this type videos more
It's very helpful plsss
No matter how many times someone tries to differentiate between these two "쌌어오 - 샀어요" I am pretty sure they sound 99% the same :D I am sure not even voice recognition would be able to pick this up.
발 - 팔 was the most difficult. overall 7/10. the other 2 i got wrong i could hear the slight difference but could not figure out which it was
This was an especially helpful kind of video. Please do more of these!
Thank you so much for videos like this!!
ㅅ and ㅆ are really hard for me. I don’t know how to improve saying those characters due to a slight lisp but I’ve found I struggle a lot to properly pronounce certain words. 쉬웠어요, 드셨어요, 쌌어요, 샀어요 etc.
I’m curious if native Koreans also have a hard time differentiating letters. 🤔
i hear if they aren't have that difficulties
No, these are not problems for us. We are having hard time to differentiate between English "walk" and "work" instead 😆😂😂
No haha it's so distinguishable for natives
I got 9 out of 10, got the 자, 차 wrong. Had to listen really carefully to the 바, 파 . Great way to work on hearing these differences, thanks!
Just when I thought I already mastered 어 and 오 all my dreams and hopes where crashed... I know by the form of the mouth that they're pronounce different, but when I listen to it, most of the time it sounds the same in my head
8/10 yuhiiiiiii!! 👏🏻
for me it is a great achievement.
definitely differentiating the ㅈ and ㅊ was the most difficult. i got 7/10!
I just started learning 한글 two days ago and I got 9/10 correct, only getting question 4 wrong because I misheard. I’m so proud of myself.
i'm still very new to vocabulary, so i was surprised i got 8/10 when in context
Great, great, great video!^^
Love this type of practice. More more more
10/10. But honestly i think 쉬웠어요 and 쉬엇었어요 can be difficult if you can't understand the pronunciation between 쉬웠 and 쉬엇.
Got 5 of 10. Not bad after just three weeks of studying Korean. 어 and 오 is my nightmare.
Somehow I got 9/10. I'm still surprised 😯. I'm glad to know that I already was having a hard time with ㅗ and ㅓ sounds. This helped to hear ot back to back. 감사합니다.
6/10...
I got 1...2...6....8...9...10 right.. 😁
Others were a little tricky ...
8/10. I knew someday I would reach this score, as long as I practice more.
Watching kdramas are so effective.
