That's called self plagiarism. It's not great either. But tbh SSBB is actually made to reuse pre existing levels as that's actually what happens in the story: they go through different stages of each other's games. So I don't think it really is a ripoff

You seem like the type of guy to say “KIRBY SOLOS ANYONE BECAUSE HE CAN JUST INHALE THEM” BUT NO! IF KIRBY CAN INHALE ANYONE THEN THE GAMES WOULD BE 100% EASIER!
You do know theres a thing called "homage", which the ssb series is known for? like literally bringing together different games, characters, levels, whatever, as a giant love letter to the people who make the games as well as those who play it. with your logic, they're ripping off any game which they're using a stage from. or any character making an appearance.
Just because it has a map from Kirby doesn’t mean it’s a ripoff, your like a fortnite kid saying botw is a ripoff of fortnite because it has the paraglider
Fun fact! Kirby was originally supposed to be a game where as you hit into enemies you become easier and easier to get launched each time, resulting in you flying of the screen and dying. This concept was then scrapped and used for smash!
Even more: when Sakurai was creating Kirby, he wanted to have the exact same fighting mechanics that are in Smash Bros., but he completely forgot about. He then found some of his notes form the original Kirby game and decided to put those in his brand new fighting game.
@@MichelinoToons That's what he meant. Smash bros is what Sakurai had originally intended for Kirby to be but later forgot about. He used that forgotten idea in Smash, is what I think he said. Ig.

Actually you're wrong, Smash Bros ripped off GTA 6, Sakurai found a time machine from the 50's and used it to alter GTA 6 and steal the concept of platform fighting games, altering the timeline into GTA going from Great Thief Attacks to Grand Theft Auto thus creating one of the most popular videogame franchises of all time Sakurai prevented a franchise's birth by having an even bigger one created into the timeline we live today 😔
I thought he was gonna bring up how both have platforming focus with direction changing your attacks, but now I know he just wanted to prove his point the wrong way by only comparing level design
I think a more correct explanation is that Smash is an evolution or spin-off of Kirby Super Star. It was the last mainline Kirby Sakurai worked on before Smash so it makes sense why he’d take inspiration from it.
Smash Bros did not rip off Kirby, it took inspiration from Kirby Super Star mechanics and the Sub-Space Emissary reference Kirby Super Star in some of its levels. This what happens when two different video game series are directed under the same person. In fact Smash Run from SSB 3DS took inspiration from and referenced a lot of things from Kid Icarus Uprising, because they were both directed by Mr. Sakurai.
Sakurai hasn't worked on a Kirby game since Amazing Mirror, and his last time directing a Kirby game was Air Ride. Sakurai literally hasn't been involved with Kirby in 20 years.

Though I’m a Kirby fan, you should’ve point out some references in the Kirby series were it would make appearance in the Smash series, like Master Hand in the Amazing Mirror
The level of copy from Kirby was probably just a reference to it, and the great maze is nothing like the frat cave offensive, especially if you look at the stage they made for it.

And you forgetting that the game is supposed to be a love letter to various franchises that appear in Smash Bros, including Kirby? So of course, Smash Bros would have stages that are based on the Kirby franchise.
Kirby is not a platform fighter, the goal of Kirby is to get to the end, the goal of smash is to defeat your opponent. Yes they’re similar, but not the same.
I remember hearing that Super Smash Bros.' control scheme was based on Joy Mech Fight for the Famicom (a.k.a NES). Though that did come out about 1 year after Kirby's first game.
