    Ok I finally caught you! First, your English is incredible, I watch occasionally to be blown away by how native you sound. That said the chief in handkerchief sounds like chiff, it’s the only time I can think of that it’s pronounced that way. The rest of the time it sounds like you said it in the video. Unless the brits say it that way 🤔

    • @miriamromeoenglishcoach
      @miriamromeoenglishcoach  3 месяца назад

      Thank you!
      Yes, you’re right in British English the last vowel in handkerchief is a lax [ɪ] as in “it”. In American English it can be pronounced both ways, with a tense [i] or a lax [ɪ]. Good job pointing that out! 😉

      @@miriamromeoenglishcoach sembra così naturale che pensavo avessi la mamma anglofona. In ogni caso complimenti e grazie per la risposta.
      Scusa mi dilungo un po'solo per dirti, riguardo al test delle parole, che alcune proprio non le conoscevo, ma la parola 'colonel', essendo appassionato di aviazione e di cose militari, l'ho sentita decine di volte in qualcuno dei canali americani cui sono iscritto, eppure l'ho pronunciata malissimo (tipo kolnel), per cui davvero sembra difficile 'uscire' dallo schema italiano di pronuncia anche su parole conosciute e sentite spesso.
      PS Scusa la logorrea ma era per dare un piccolo contributo che magari può essere/esserti utile, ma se non arrivi a leggere tutto non mi offendo😁

      Comunque sì è vero, molto spesso non percepiamo certi suoni per quello che effettivamente suoni perché siamo magari inconsapevolmente influenzati dallo spelling o da come pensiamo si scriva/dica. 😊
