I’m currently in Thailand. I’ve been here 3 weeks. I am dreading going back to California to just “ exist” I am retired living on a generous pension. I am 90% sure I am returning to this beautiful country to live. This video is spot on!
Go home pack your shit up and get bk to paradise. I did and never regretted a moment.
I moved here in Jomtien last month from Mid Wilshire LA-living good with my CALPERS!
@@BarnabyBarry I also have a CALPERS retirement. I’m 60 years old. What do you do for medical in Thailand? I have Kaiser in the U.S. I just left Pattaya/Jomtien yesterday and back in Bangkok. I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area.
@@DIGITALMIND63 I moved to Thailand in 2017 from El Cerrito. I bought a Thai insurance policy. 10 million baht policy with a 40,000 baht deductible. I bought at 62 years old and the cost was a bit less than say US policy (which I couldn't use here). I pay for routine care out of pocket and the insurance is for something catastrophic. Routine care is cheap. Often cheaper than the deductible in the US. If you do buy into a Thai policy in your 60's the you want to do it sooner rather than later for the obvious reason of price vs age.
@@martypoll Thanks for the info! Makes a lot of sense. My plan is to keep my Kaiser plan and use a relatives address in the states. Your plan using Thai insurance incase of something catastrophic is smart. I can see myself doing that and if my issue is on going I’d return to the U.S. for further care.
I left California in 2021. I drove through Hollywood on my way out. What a shit hole and I'm told it's even worst now. I knew on that day, I would be moving to Thailand as soon as it opened up. I spent 5 months here last year and decided that Pattaya would be my first destination. Moved here in January and couldn't be happier.
i have lived all over south east asia and Pattaya is the best by far, i don't know how it manages to keep apartment rent so low, even after 20+ years of visiting and living there, you get 100 dollars to 1000 dollars apartment with great quality,, as the population grows, Pattaya multiplies its apartment footprint by 10.
i have lived in Manila to Bali to bangkok and slowly inflation in many cities eat you away, but not Pattaya, not much has changed in over 20 years in Pattaya, the city is expanding but the price has remained magically low, food is amazing from all over the world, Pattaya truly has stood THE TEST OF TIME.
Congrats man! I'm planning my exodus to thailand now..going back in Dec for 3 months to see if i really want to live there..im also in california ..orange county..the people suck..the work culture sucks..work all day and week just to pay bills its ridiculous.these jobs are soul sucking
Great if your a sex tourist
Smart choice!
Exactly. U acted...as I have. We are happier for it. USA is done
I've been living in Thailand since 2016. Every time I visit my family and friends in Las Vegas, they all told me I made the right decision and wish they could do the same. My mother also decided she will be moving to Thailand soon. Yeh! 😊
lovely, I live in Vegas and feeling the same way.
@@abidmamdani People are discovering good life outside USA. So do your research.
I hope your mom loves it here. Welcome her to Thailand.

Vegas? You could move anywhere and have it be a step up :)
Thank you. You just saved me at least 100,000 baht! Last week I was thinking about going back to Michigan and Tennessee to visit some of my old friends. I imagined it would be exactly how you described. If anyone wants to see me, I'll just offer to pay 50% of their flight. No way I'm going back after 19 years here. The 'American Dream' has turned into a nightmare.
Idk.
Michigan and Tennessee might be doing better than California
I am a British expat , and have lived in Thailand for ten years, and fill the same way as you do sorry to say..
Michigan is a shithole still and Nashville now is insanely expensive
Hi, Just to respond to what you said, I have heard of other people a little disillusioned with America in recent years. There is a California couple now living in Czech Republic and very happy, have become Czech citizens and say the quality of life is far better. They have made videos about it, very eye opening, called "Dream Prague" by Jen. Its really worth watching. She says people in Czech have much better quality and happier lives than Americans. I was surprised about it.
I'll come and see you..
I haven't been back to that asylum for over 17 years now. The day I left the States was the happiest day of my life.
#Respect
The asylum. That's a good one!! I'm gonna start using that too! Cheers!
Same here. Read the news sometimes, it all seems about mass-killings and other depressing things. When I see a price rise here in Thailand, I ask my friends back in America what it costs for the same thing, and I'm absolutely shocked. Can't imagine ever moving back.
I heard you can walk out with an iPhone less than USD 950 from the Apple Store and nobody is going to stop you. Such freedom.
I did the same -- saw everything sinking in 2004. The only thing I miss is having that beautiful convertible at 25% of the price in Thailand. However, I have a gorgeous house overlooking the sea at 25% of the cost in the US so guess it's a tradeoff. It's also great to see my net worth grow substantially due to the low COL. I traveled and worked in thirty countries and would put Thailand at the top of the list. By the way, my relatives have disowned me for never visiting them in twenty years, but the funny thing is, I rarely saw them even when I lived in the US. You need to only take care of yourself and your local family -- everything else will sort itself out.
Just turned 40 this year. I can relate to the 'just existing' comments. I am moving to Thailand next spring to get a fresh start. I have a healthy retirement and savings so I can take some time to adjust in a new locale and figure life out. Went on Holiday in July to Phuket and it really made me sad how I was living life in the States. WTF am I working for anymore? Thanks for the great content and insightful words. You probably have no idea how many of us can relate and I thank you for speaking out loud about it.
Do not move to Phuket if drink heavily or like partying it will be the worst move of your life…
Come to Pattaya. Best value in Thaiand for value. Cheap rent, food, day to day living. By the coast, beaches are ok not amazing but decent.
If you want beach vibe that is cheaper than Phuket come out to Pattaya. There are a lot of us Americans out here great community of expats. Good luck brother.
@@SinghCapital Could we connect and see if you can answer some specific questions I may have?
You will love Thailand!
Forrest, you are 100% spot on. One thing: you mentioned that in California we are just “existing”, but the more accurate word for me is “enduring”. I’m being worked to death for a couple more years until I’m comfortable with my savings, then it’s all thailand for me.
I left Cali in 2018. I am next door in Cambodia. I went back a year ago and was so stunned by the costs, social upheaval, and what the American dream has become, I couldn't wait to get back on a plane. The amount of homelessness, drug zombies, and poorly hidden anxiety in just about everyone I encountered tells me that my home country is suffering from a severe existential crisis.
USA is becoming an expensive third world country
When I came back I immediately regretted it once I got on an American airplane. My god the obese flight attendants, rude people, pushy, nasty just terrible. I was pretty depressed for a while. No wonder half the USA population is on anti-depressants!

I'm originally from New York and wanted to leave badly. Moved to Thailand and lived from 2013-2017. In 2017 went back to the US but lived in Georgia. While Georgia IMO was better to live than NY (cost of living, crime, etc...) I still felt like it sucked. Life is just way different. It's basically just about going to work and going out every now and again. Also by time I left the cost of living everywhere was getting insane. Moved back to Thailand last year, and plan on staying here as long as possible.
I always said Thailand was comparable to when people talk about "Island life". Even in Bangkok, things are a lil slower, a lil more friendly and way more relaxed. Just a better all around quality of life for me.
goodluck with the Thai visa process,,,,it really sucks
@@dsrrellgriffith1161 so then how to people live and move there ?
I am talking about the non immigrant visa for the general public, you can get a retirement visa by putting money in a thai bank, and showing monthly income. They seem to always change the law on regular visas.@@hacker1011000
@@hacker1011000You hire an immigration agent whose profession is handling visas and everything for foreigners. That’s what intelligent people do. Many foreigners are too cheap to do this but it saves all sorts of anguish.
I was homeless for the last 3 years, before I left AmeriKKKa and moved to Thailand. I went from freezing, sleeping outdoors in Colorado winters, to owning a home and starting a family in Songkhla / Chiang Rai... I WORKED THE ENTIRE TIME WHILE I WAS HOMELESS. I saved my money and never looked back. AmeriKKKa is OBSOLETE.
meanwhile, for many Thai people, the reality isn't so rosy. They are saddled in debt, many hardly make enough to survive. It's easy for us westerners to say its all rosy and gravy, but the truth is really much different. I don't understand why so many expats wear rose colored glasses about the country. It's a great place, but its no better or different than any place in the world. There is good and bad. In many many ways, the state of Thailand isn't really all that stable either, but expats tend to not really see that, because they are often in their own bubble. Not to mention the political situation, which is nothing more than highway robbery of the people's choices and one can say, Thailand has A LOT of work to do.
I left the "Land of the Free" also.

Welcome back, you may find later if you leave Thailand for other lands that you will either think of coming back but more than likely you will come back. As I have written here before, I first came to Thailand when I was 21, I have left Thailand for work or just thought setteling in America might be better, but I kept coming back over the years and finally realized life was better in Thailand, I will be 77 next month and have no desire to leave Thailand again.
Good for you. Notice after age 40 in America you are put out to pasture unless you are filthy rich or incredibly handsome and often times both are needed. In SEA age is not as big a deal and a man can have a second chance at a good life and being cared about.
Wow I moved to Thailand when I was 21 also , lived there 10 years full time . Now 44 back in the States way to long.
“My heart and life belong to Thailand” Such sentiments fill Thai citizens like me with pride for our country. Sometimes, we don’t need to voice our nation’s merits ourselves; we let foreigners, like you, share their experiences with others. Thailand warmly welcomes all, and I hope you enjoy every moment here, not just today but for always…

Forrest, I really like these introspective updates! As someone who has lived in 18 different countries (flex) I can say that the world is your home. Those who live interesting lives and travel find it hard to explain to someone what the Thai heat feels like in the hottest season, how delicious a mango tastes from a mango tree in Kenya, shrimp curry in old bombay from a street stall. Dont become a clog in a machine, you only have one life. Live it!

Who did you & your friends & family vote for in last election Biden or Trump??
People get the governments they deserve (or vote for).
Same with Seattle. I went back last October and it is definitely a drug-zombie apocalypse. It used to be beautiful, but now it's ugly, messy, and dangerous. And it has nothing to to with "Biden". As much as I hate what's happening in Seattle, I would gladly vote for Biden again to avoid another Trump debacle.
What do you choose when faced with the choice between plague and cholera?
I moved to Thailand in 2018 from California and it was ok back then. I miss going to see the Giants in SF, but I watch the CBS Evening News every night and I am appalled at all the shootings, price increases, hateful talk, etc that is going on in America. I don't see myself ever going back now. Thailand does have it problems but the friendly people and lower prices make it worthwhile. I rent a 2 bedroom, 2 bath house that came completely furnished with 3 wall airconditioners and also a washing machine for around $350 per month. Electricity bill is about $90 per month. Wifi and a few TV channels for about $20.00 per month. You can actually eat dinner out for about $2.00 in many places. Bangkok is more expensive but it has everything you could possibly want.......Sal : )
@kyotosal, Yes there has been a big overall inflation in Californian in the last 2 or 3 years. Sure, my house is worth more, but I don't like what's happening in general. Last winter I took a long walk with a friend to the area by Oracle Park where the Giants play. We had a nice night of people watching and talking to some of them, there is still some magic in parts of the city.
My mom retires in Thailand 20 years ago and I am very happy for her. I visit her every year and just spent 1 month with her. Planning my future retirement there soon! You are right. It's a great country.
Better hurry up it's get more expensive all over the world
I’ve spent a ton of time in Thailand. I live in San Diego, operate a business restoring expensive old cars - there are no workers left in California so I want to close down my business, sell off all the cars and move to Bangkok but this takes a huge amount of time. Not really worth working harder for less now. To the kids It’s more prestigious to be a barista at Starbucks than build something. Kids are utter morons now and they hate adults. Politicians think racism is the number one problem with the world and ignore everything else. Where is the future….. I need to move 😅
Identity politics and victim hood culture are the only thing democRATs care about anymore.

I agree 100% with your views on home country. I feel the same way with my country of birth, New Zealand. Rampant inflation, high crime rate, housing affordability are also big issues here. I worked and lived in the Far East for 30 years and still carry fond memories of 10 years living in Thailand.
It's really good to share similar thoughts with you and fellow-subscriber's.
I am planning on returning to Thailand within the next 1-2 years on a retirement visa.

Did you have to learn the local language ?
In life there will always be those that are unhappy and seek to change that, and then there are others that become complacent and a slave to a system that does not serve them. I've been thinking about Thailand for a while now and seeing videos like this are the extra little push I needed to go ahead and make that leap. Planning to learn the language a bit first before I move and im going to give myself a full year to save up, then I m leaving the U.S. for good. ✨

Said perfectly
Hi forrest. What you say in the video 100% match how i am feeling back home in canada as i am visiting my sister after living in thailand for one year. I am glad you love thailand and i feel the same when you said my heart belongs to thailand! Great video !
I went to Thailand in Dec and January of 2023. I couldn't believe it. I had the most amazing time of life. It made me want to move out there. I also went to Baja California Mexico. Tijuana, Ensenada and also couldn't believe how amazing it is. I love California but the grass is greener elsewhere. The moment I find a creative way to earn income while living abroad I would like to make the jump and move to Thailand and Mexico. All I know, I'm going back to Thailand.
You could learn to trade like I do and live in Thailand 🙂
I spent 10 months traveling SE Asia and came back to the US two months ago. The whole "just exist" thing is what gets me the most. I'm in rural Appalachia, so there's no real crime, but lots of junkies, but people just exist. I see people I went to high school with that work the same job in the same factory that they were at in 1997.
I've just returned to Australia from Thailand and it's suffering the same symptoms you just talked about. Maybe not quite as bad but very similar.
Looking forward to permanently moving to Thailand next year.
Why Thailand? Are their official banking or other routine paper works in English like in Singapore or Malaysia? I would imagine language barrier could be a big inconvenience over there.
@blardymunggas6884 In rural areas there can be minor problems with the language.
But in the bigger cities it's not a problem.
Australias cooked. I left Sydney and never looking back. I'm in Vietnam now
Australia is now a shithole full of crime, corruption, drugs everywhere. Happy I left.
@@tanthamanGood luck to ya mate. I left Perth for Thailand 2 years ago. I’ll never go back!
Thanks Forrest, I am touched when you said...my heart and my life belong to Thailand. I am Thai and have been in US for the last 3 decades. I am counting down my days towards retirement. Your video helps confirm my date of retirement. As soon as I can retire, I will leave my job. No reason to continue working and just getting by 😂. Can't wait to return to my hometown, Thailand 💕

Greetings from Canada, Forrest...Canada's the same, starting to get depressing when everything's so expensive, tent city, rising costs of everything, so we're thinking of retiring in Asia too, actually we were born in Asia, and now it doesn't make sense living in N. America anymore, we have the worst leaders here, just corrupted leaders, making their own citizens suffer and constantly printing more money and welcoming more refugees using our tax dollars
Wow! I'm so glad I bumped into your video! I lived in Bali for 2 years and was planning to go back home to California but now I'm thinking to visit Cali for just 2 weeks as well! Everything you said is so true, from the conversations you have with people back at home just existing, to people not having the creative freedom to pursue passion projects because everyone is just on survival mode. Subbed!
What do you find to be the cheapest way to fly? Im coming from Denver, I can buy a rountrip, I want to stay 90 days during winter next year
Fully empathize with your sentiment about living abroad in Asia vs living in the US. I lived in Japan for 7 years and moved back to the US for job and family related reasons. I've been back in the US for quite a few years, but have longed to go back to Asia for the quality of life we enjoyed there. We are planning to move back to Asia permanently (most likely Japan, but Thailand would be my second choice if not for family).. Enjoy your channel!
i moved to japan last year and i can't believe how cheap real estate/rent is. i think for retired folks with just tourist visa's could find it a very affordable place to live 6 months out of the year cheaply. just pop over to korea or taiwan and come back for another 3 month visa. It sure would make retirement dollars stretch farther. But who knows, the big asset bubble might pop in the near future. It sure as hell can't go on forever like this. I'm in dire straights if the dollar crashes because thats my only income source. I'm loving it now with 144 to the dollar. Instant discount on everything

I left California in 1972 for all the reasons you discussed and it was 20 years before I returned for a visit. Talk about change. But it was a great place to grow up in the 50's and 60's.
i didn't like the hippies in the sf bay area but i think i would have loved the 50's in san fran with the beatnicks. At least they didn't smell like they needed a bath a month ago
Omg😮 you livin in Thailand for 30plus yrs😮
GREAT honest video 💪❤ Refreshing to hear you.😊
He speaks the truth. Everything he says resonates with me and also applies to Canada just as much (if not more so). I live in Vancouver but plan to move to Thailand in about 2 years. I've been twice (as well as 58 other countries) and for me it's one of the best choices. Plus Thai food is my favorite cuisine and it's cheap there. I will be in foodie Heaven. Plus not only are there tons of great places to explore in Thailand but also many great places in nearby countries like Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam (been to them all). I can happily spend the rest of my life just exploring them. So I'm looking forward to spending my retirement years in Thailand.
I watch a lot of Thailand base vids so no surprise this just came up. Everything you talked about in the bay is real. I’m 15 mins from Castro valley and that “just existing “ feeling is spot on. I have that same desire of wanting more and I’m not settling for just existing. Soon enough I’ll touchdown in the land of smiles too. Appreciate the vid
Great perspectives Forrest. Left California in 2010 and when I went back to visit, it was like you said, depressing. Everyone was just struggling to survive. You clearly are thriving in Thailand. That's awesome to see. Looking forward to more of your content. I would love to see more on your experiences as an Asian American living in Thailand.
Great video Forrest. You're delivery is so smooth and effortless. You've come a long way my friend.

Hello I jumped on your channel to hear what you had to say and your spot on. I went back in 2019 just before COVID hit after living in Vietnam 15 years and let me tell you I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and seeing. And now I also live in Pattaya Thailand and what a difference now in US. Oh well keep up your good work on RUclips. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hey Forrest, I lived in the Bay Area until I was laid off a few months ago. Took my severance pay and bought a one way ticket to Thailand. I plan on living here for a year or so until the tech industry picks back up and i can keep working toward financial independence.
Why not move to a tech area away from California. Here in Raleigh-Durham (Cary, Morrissville) there's a decent tech sector and no sidewalk tents, and plenty of sun.
So I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos.. l completely resonated with everything you’ve been saying wow !!!!

I have visited Thailand 4 times, and I fell in love with that country. I’m 54 and ready to make a change. I think god wanted me to see your video this morning. I have subscribed to your channel today, and look forward to sharing your adventures thru Thailand and wherever else your travels take you. Take care.
Love the message in this video!
Thanks for this video. I lived in So Cal most of my life and moved to FL 8 years ago. I miss the amazing So Cal weather but I couldn't imagine moving back to the broken place CA has become. I met my wife in FL and she is the most amazing Thai woman. We are going back to Thailand for my second time and plan to stay there 2 months. With the way COVID has turned my job into a work-from-home job, we plan to do extended stays in Thailand each year. During our trips to Thailand, we plan to travel and determine where in Thailand we'd like to live long-term so we can start building our retirement home base in Thailand.
Gong back home is always a challenging activity. Some of your childhood friends are content with what is right before their eyes (nothing wrong with that). Others complain about their current state but are not prepared to make any plans/changes to do something different. While living and working in America, I have always frequented Europe and knew my final years of employment would be in Europe before retirement. When I would mention going to Europe to visit, my sister would ask: 'You've already been there BEFORE, what is there to see?' For her travel is a bucket-list item to check-off. She can't fathom living abroad for part or all of the time.
Living in America (SF Bay Area) for the last 5 years is a 'frog-in-water moment' for many. America is no longer 'the destination' to be successful'. Major corporations don't see Silicon Valley as the center of technology and for the last 5-7 years have been setting up outposts throughout the globe. American leadership and the state mentality has resulted in division, no focused long-term plans, and decline. In the major cities of Europe, their city centers are thriving, they have planted for a less carbon intensive environment, and have not embraced a soft on crime mentality. In the Netherlands recently, a person attempting to steal a watch from a diner was the leading story in the news for several days (being very rare).
America is in decline (no doubt about it). There will not be an implosion, but a slow and steady decline in the quality of life. There are still opportunities but they may not be in America. This may be the 1st generation who may have to seriously consider study outside the United States with the intent to work and live internationally. Thanks for your content.
I moved to the Netherlands 1 year ago and have become disappointed with the place. Not looking forward to my return from the Philippines in 3 days. My home country of England sounds similar to California crazy levels
Really informative and thoughtful. The best eyes and ears are those of someone who returns from overseas.
Thanks for that informative video!
Agree! I have one more year here in Michigan, then I’ll be in Hua Hin.
Anyone that disagrees with your view has been believing everything they hear and see on the news and any media outlet.
I noticed Thailand, Malaysia, China and some other Asian countries are building so many houses. It's like they predicted a lot of people will (or have already) manoeuve to South East Asia in the past and coming years due to the Western world going down very quickly now. My daughter and her boyfriend, both 22, just came back from a 3 weeks trip in Thailand and they had an amazing time there. They had no worries about food and house prices, transportation, tax etc, like we do have it here in the Netherlands. And the energy they got from Thailand was so positive. The minute they came back and landed in the Netherlands, they got an negative vibe already in the first minutes. So they decided to move to maybe Malaysia, Thailand or China, where the future is much brighter for them, their grandmother and their future children. Dear Forrest, I saw your video about the 'protests' in Hongkong. Now you're much more open minded and wiser, do you still have the same thoughts about what went on there in HK, now 3 years later? I think a lot of cities in mainland China are now very well to live in. What is your opinion, Forrest?
I returned to the Netherlands from the Philippines in 3 days time. After a year in the Netherlands I became depressed and angry originally from England. I'm try to figure out if I should move to Amsterdam so I can see my kids in venlo or return to broken Britain. My Philippines girlfriend is nice and only the mosquitos and air pollution is an issue for me personally. I wish a crystal ball would give me the answer it's hard to make a decision. My Dutch house is already sold in 1 month
@@Goodman849 I think Asia is the future where you can live in harmony and peace with your family. It’s also great for children. Many places in the Philippines are so beautiful and modern now. No pollution and mosquitoes! You can see it in so many videos online. Just look for them, show it to your children, they might want to move to the Philippines or anywhere in Asia too😃. Europe, UK and US will be in tougher times the coming period. I will not recommend anybody to stay here. But when it’s not possible to move out of here, just go with the flow and set your mind on what your dream is. Let the universe find a way for you. Have patience and in the meantime ‘leef’! 💖
If they can work remotely from Thailand then they have a chance.
If they would have to find a local job than they are for a nasty surprise.
Salaries in Thailand are as low as their prices.
Keep living your dream! I so enjoy seeing your videos and all the places you that you go to. Some people don't ever get to live out their dreams. You are spot on with what is happening in USA. I live down South and we all are in a spiral. Keep the videos coming.
New subscriber here! I love your channel, Sir. I'm here in Philippines. Can't wait to visit your country.
People here still smile and laugh and it is a much better life here. At least that is how it is outside the tourist areas. I am here FT for over 23 years, mostly in a small farming village - love the language and culture.. good luck to you - great video
I recently found your channel from RUclips suggestion or algorithm. I like your videos since you have the same mindset like me. Currently, I'm living in Florida. I came back to California this Summer to join my parents, sister and brother for Costa Rica, Japan and South Korea trips (we visited 3 countries in one month). Just like you, I have the same feeling about California. Based from your videos, I think my next trip would be Thailand. I grew up in the South Bay in the 80's, a decade before you. It was fun for me in the 80's and 90's. I quitted my tech job from Silicon Valley last year. As an investor or trader or self-employed (no longer working for anybody), I have a lot of freedom to travel, workout and activities. Life is good, living stress free. Enjoyed listening. Thanks for sharing.
Nice. I need to share this with friends, family and others. I get the whole vibe since we live here in the Northeast US and nothing is what it was not that many decades ago. If and when I can get back to Thailand (and convince my partner to come with me) I have a feeling that we may spend either extended time there, or at least plan on looking at the possibility of moving there. Thanks for this video, I intend to watch more of what you post.
Honest and deep. This is what I like about this channel.
There is something I liked about you when I started watching your RUclips videos. The honesty & humor for one but having lived in Oakland CA for 20 plus years & now living in Stockton I know now what I liked about you. Hoped to be coming in Thailand in September to escape Comifornia. Love the food, love the people, but hate the public serpents that are destroying California.
Spot on. Interesting to hear your perspective!
great video again, so real. your channel is very under rated
Just randomly stumbled upon your video, and I'm glad I did. Hearing of your experience living in California vs living aboard was eye opening. I live in San Diego and the cost of everything has skyrocketed, but nothing's being done about it. I look forward to the day I can freely travel abroad to Asia, Europe, and South America to truly live it up instead of just surviving.
I live in Canada, after working many years in China, and, yes, Asian is a vibrant place. Canada was dead long before covid, by the way.
For most locals in Thailand the prices have gone up significantly here too. Most aren't able to afford homes here anymore either. The Bangkok land prices have beyond the reach of most locals too.
Thais should consider moving to Cambodia.
No accident, I think. Covid created poverty in many circles. Where did that money go? It went up! It did not go down to where the people who really could use it could get it. The governments just printed more money and created even more inflation while the value of savings dwindled due to that loss of money value. The people who have the money are not spending it like the middle class used to.
Forrest Lee your going to get me to try to stay in Thailand for months or even years like you , I'm only 55 and retired and sort of COMPLETELY tired of the NORM here in Cali.. I will have to subscribe , thank you .
What's up Forest! Been a long time. Nice to see you posting. Keep it up!
Forrest you are so right about everything even here in Canada prices are gone up significantly in houses and cost of living, to me it doesn't make much difference, I am retired and lucky enough to enjoy life however years I could live . I try to spend time and money in travelling with my kids and grandkids , I do love beaches, Thailand looks Ideal for my liking but a bit far to take my grandkids, so I watch vlogs like yours and make the best of it :)
I have had the identical reaction you had but, I had them back in 2014 when we visited our US home after living in Thailand many years. But I will also say although all true you cannot really see clearly on short trips. After we moved back in 2016 & after more than a month we saw many benefits & +'s , Now we do the opposite & live here & visit our Thailand house for 2-3 months a year & that is great but while there we do notice a lot of negatives too. So all I am saying is it does work both ways. But I will also say after now being back here 7 years we are considering yet again making Thailand our majority home 555 There is something as you say aside from prices being cheaper but life is just more vibrant there even for us. Thanks for the video!
Mr Mike you automatically use 555 instead of haha like Thai…that’s why you can make Thailand your main base 555😊
Found a gem of a channel, loving ur videos!
Hey forest everything you said resonates with my perspective toward the US. The entire country has basically turned into an overpriced waste land.
First time viewer and I agree 100 percent regarding California. It is a dump as far as I understand with outrageous home rentals and mortgages, severe overpopulated areas full of homeless people, outrages taxes, and a government that doesn't work at all!
I've lived here in South Florida for most of my life and although I have enjoyed it, I also have a Thai Fiance which I'll be with her in October when I travel to Thailand. I may move there once I retire and also acquire my pension from teaching but for now, just going there twice a year.
By the way, are you Thai or Chinese or both in your heritage? Best of luck to you!

He condensed everything nicely 👍
Our family went to Thailand to visit my family last month. I noticed that the prices in Thailand have not really changed much at all since the last time we went to visit 4 years ago.
It has gotten more significantly more expensive in Bangkok over the last few years. I wonder why.
Prices have not changed much....? 20-30% increase is the norm. The apartment I stayed in a few weeks ago, the price of drinking water has increased quite significantly, gym usage price up 100%, just room rate remains. I think I bought shirts at 100 THB each in 2019. This time, the same shirt, same stall, is 150 THB, though I bought 10 shirts.
Prices have changed a lot. Everytime I go to the supermarket in Thailand the price has risen.

I was born at Eden hospital in Castro Valley! Enjoyed my visits to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Bali earlier this year. Living in Philippines with all its beauty and amazing beach life as well. English is widely spoken. Food is better than many suggest in my opinion though not as many choices as there are in those places I visited. Infrastructure in many places are subpar as well but the people are amazing and easy to interact with. There are always trade offs but I am living my best life. Enjoy!! Thanks for your content….
Forrest, many thanks for your lucid, and candid insight a few moments ago, into the state of California society. I applaud your empathy with your peers who you grown up with and who were bereft of their lack of vision and drive to take advantage of the opportunities, that still exist in the most powerful and richest nation on the planet. I look forward to viewing how you got on in South Dakota.
Keep up the great work!! Stay on the path!
Born and raised in Pasadena California (suburb of LA) and moved to Glendale when I was 9. Then moved to Playa Del Rey and Hawthorne during early adult life. California is gone. It once was a wonderful state but politics has absolutely destroyed the state and it’s impossible to get ahead there. When I lived there I talked to 100’s of people who said if they didn’t buy their home before 2012, there is no way they could offered their homes today. My wife and I left 2 years ago to South Carolina. Although I do miss home, I’m so happy we don’t have to deal with the madness politics and outrageous EVERYTHING. Also, it feels good knowing that we can buy a house here if we so choose. That would have never happened in Cali. The pathetic moronic governor and his cronies don’t care about the hard working class. It’s now, rich or poor there. Sean Hannady did an interview with Newsom and it was alarming how the governor was defending all the crime, homeless, drugs, etc with “we have the 4th largest economy in the word.”

Re-electing Trump is the only way that will ever happen. And even then it's just a small foot in the door, like a reset back to the mid 80's. True recovery back to prosperity will take several generations.
Don’t bet on it, America’s dead 😢
Spot on and really well said. 👏

What a shame. I lived in California 2008 to 2012, moving from overseas, and I have to say it was one of the best times of my life. The people, the weather, and vibe. Hardly any crime that I saw. It makes me so sad that the situation has deteriorated, because I met so many wonderful people there.
