    Thailand is better than most other countries in the SEA. I know this first hand as I have been traveling through each one for years. I like that Thais mind their own business. They don’t stare and gossip incessantly like Filipinos and Indonesian. They are not as hostile as Malaysians which are big time xenophobes. If you are here in Thailand to spend money and relax then Thailand is the place to be in this part of the world. The only thing is that the visa situation sucks in Thailand.

    The part about the women is true if you are Asian yourself. A Thai woman who throws herself at some random white tourist is by definition not traditional...The visa situation (elite visa 4x in price, retirement visa requires more monthly income) is a sign that Thailand is trying to distance itself from the low quality foreigners that used to rock up and act like kings.

My fear of a giant city you help me overcome by realizing that big cities are full of localities, and it is a matter of finding a locality that might fit one's pace. Where would one even begin in a city as big as Bangkok? Good to hear that they are still sexually normal with strong fathers. I really don't want no snakes up my pants. We agree, we love the eating choices in Thailand, and the cost is amazingly inexpensive. The one thing that you can not get is good steak. (I'm sure there is an exception but haven't found it) We live in southern California and LA has the largest concentration of Thai people in the USA. We run into thai people often and my wife being thai, we get the best service when we eat at Thai resturants. guess what question I ask the thai Wait staff? "did you like steak in thailand?" The answer is always no. Next question, "Do you like steak now that you live in the USA" The answer is always yes and their eyes light up and the conversation always expands from there about the poor quality of beef they have in thailand (Generally)
    ITs gonna be one ot the things I am going to miss but I'll get over it. I live in Westminster(orange country) FYI. If you were to door dash here at 3am, you wouldn't believe the options.... Every trip I come back from Thailand I'm lost for a week or two because I miss all the thai low cost choices of great food.

      @@darwinjina One thing most american men can do is make a steak to their liking. Thats the baseline for me. I'm spoiled, I installed machinery for about 7 years for a company traveling the USA and Canada as much at 45 weeks in a year and no less than 30. The Small company I worked for made all their $ from my work. (My boss was the sales man so I guess he did a couple things...lol) After the first 3 months of this when I was already about to hang myself, my boss made sure I knew I could have a steak dinner every night if I wanted. While I didn't do that, (I'd be over 300lbs if I had) I had at least one steak dinner on every trip.... (typically monday through friday)
      So yeah, I know a little about Ribeyes. I think in thailand its the availability of good meet. My wife told me she didn't eat steak before she moved to the USA. I said, thats fine, but the first time I BBQed she had steak. She's never skipped steak night since. When I move to Thailand, I'm going to be chained to a resturant though.
      If you want a resturant to work, you gotts be there every day, that would be hard with all the traveling I'll be doing. :)
      By the way.... My two favorite spots in North America are "Steak house 10" in Denver. Went there and was greeted by the Owner who is Greek. Called and got a reservation a month later when I was back in town and when I showed up 4 hours later, He remembered my name when I walked in the door.... Thats Pro. FYI George is the best Waiter.... The other spot oddly is in Montreal Ca. on the waterfront. Le Keg... Amazing food and I watched a hockey Game at the Bar and everyone knew the rules..... Refreshing thing for an American hockey Referee to experience...haha

    If you spend any time in Sathon or Silom you find out it’s very expensive to eat. Sure, you can eat cheap local food, but it’s not always healthy food - and can your gut handle it. Thai food, while it is tasty, often is rice and noodle and sugar and spices, with small quantities of vegetables and quality meat (just look what goes into Pakra Pow Mo Ki Dow - excuses the spelling). Places like Market Fresh, OHKAJHU, Salad Factory and Jones’ Salad are getting a lot of business as more affluent Thai’s want healthier food.

    LOL! Well, Forrest, sounds like you lived in the burbs if you drove 30-40 minutes to find what you couldn't in suburbia. I can't speak to San Francisco's zoning laws. Still, I know more than a few places in America where what you talk of as the convenience of entertainment does exist, i.e., high-rise condo across from your favorite breakfast/lunch/dinner spot, entertainment venues are nearby. Other opportunities to shop, work, and entertainment are steps away. But I always lived in a large city.
    Coming from a zoning/code background, people eventually get concerned about aesthetics. I'm pretty sure Bangkok doesn't look the same as it did 10-15 years ago.

    About zoning regulation in Bangkok, there is but it's very minimum. You cannot set up a beer bar/entertainment place near a school or university. Don't know exactly how far the restriction, but there is such regulation! However, this is Thailand; therefore such regulation is often ignored. Just pay the police and everything is fine. If you don't believe me, go to Siam Square and you will see plenty of entertainment places/eateries that serve beer/liquor. It's practically next door to the oldest/most prestigious university Chulalongkorn. In fact, Siam Square land itself is a property of the university. King Rama V granted a huge land to establish Civil Service Training school during his reign and this later was transformed into Chulalongkorn university. Then the land was far from the Grand Palace and was originally a rice field/orchard. It's practically worth very little back then. The same could be said about Lumpini Park nearby which was established by his son King Rama VI who used to study in English boarding school several years before returning to Thailand to become a crown prince and later King. He set up Lumpini Park to emulate Hyde Park in London. The land was worth very little as well in those days!

    it would be (Would have been) nice if you could have used the US version of google Maps to provide Direct Links to each of the locations you visited in your video. I'm not able to find all of them even with the information you provided.

      It’s high but the cost is relative to what the consumer finds as value. He says he goes there 4-5 times a week and probably spends and hour or two from beginning to end. That’s 20 times a month and forty hours plus a month. If he enjoys it and sees it as a deal I don’t see anything wrong with it. In large cities it’s not uncommon to pay that much.

    cost of living and food cost is not very cheap in bangkok but maybe it is because i mainly spent in shoping malls. i used to spend about 700 bahts per meal in the malls. Maybe at your income level, the cost of living is cheap compared to an average Thai. As to women, marriage to a Thai women means taking up family (and maybe financiak) responsibility to her parents
    / family too. The culture attach much imoortance to filial piety although the younger generation already greatly influenced by the american culture especially in spending habit. They tend spend most of what they earn

    When we say things are cheap in other countries, say in Thailand, we ought to be sensitive because the wages of the ordinary people are not high and expats are enjoying in the expense of other people's low wages.

    • @kamolhengkiatisak1527
      @kamolhengkiatisak1527 11 месяцев назад

      Not true. Society always have rich and poor. Expats contribute greatly to the poor of Thailand. They provide direct/indirect income to them. Without expats, some cleaners cannot have jobs cleaning condos rented to expat. Expats visit 7-11 often, enabling more employees employed. Expat/foreign visitors' money oils Thai economy and provide jobs opportunities for poor Thai.

      No parking meters when you can't even find parking spot! Traffic is the main issue there. Took me 45 mins to get to the decent malls that I want to go and thats after hopping on 2 freeways.

    For your online banking and investments while surfing the internet, do you use a VPN while in Thailand?

    • @gmbeahan
      @gmbeahan 11 месяцев назад

      You don't have to but it's a good idea. Some banks, credit cards, and brokerages will close your account if all your activity comes from an overseas IP address. Thailand also blocks some pron and other websites. For Thailand 90 day reporting online, use a local IP address.

    Your parents' generation moved to the US and endured language barrier, discrimination, lack of proper education etc, I assume. And you are happy in Thailand because it's cheaper there? Cheap cheap cheap and good good good? If it's more affordable, you get to feel, incorrectly and with illusion, you feel more affluent. Is that what you dig in Thailand? My mere dollars worth whole lot more here in Thailand and I feel richer and happier, is that it?
