      Do you see how it looks like a Jeep? Square wheel wells - something American manufacturers have been doing all along. I would say, not the best looking because arguably, current model looks pretty as well. But I would say, best representing looks. Because it represents ruggedness. And adds some actual ruggedness as well.

      I do find the adventure modal somewhat interesting.But yet having a truck can come in handy.Although I don't like how much gas I sometimes have to put in my Dodge.I sometimes think I would like to get me a comfortable suv or maybe crossover that would get better MPG than my truck.But I want one that if need be I can do some light towing with. I also want something that I can occasionally go off the beaten path with. One problem though is I'm probably gonna have to get the wife a van first. Unless I find a crossover or SUV with room for her chair. Guess I'll see what the future holds. When I got my Dodge I though I was gonna get something that would need towing.

    First, this is not comparable to a "true" 4WD vehicle--if you need a 4WD vehicle for off-roading, this isn't the good choice. That said, the 2019 RAV4 is aimed directly at competing with the Subaru Forester and Outback. Subaru should be worried. The Subies are a generally good AWD for mild backcountry use, EXCEPT that they are equipped with the unreliable and expensive to repair Jatco (owned by Nissan) CVT. Funny how no one in the auto journalism field mentions that the Subie CVT is made by the same company that builds the CVT with a horrible reputation in Nissans. With the 2019 RAV4 Adventure, Toyota has 1) made the ground clearance competitive with the Subies; 2) built an AWD system competitive with Subaru's X-Mode; 3) achieved fuel economy numbers competitive with the Outback or Forester; and 4) done all that with an automatic transmission that should be way more pleasant and reliable than Subaru's CVT. Oh, and the 2.5 Toyota 4 is a very bulletproof engine; the Subie's boxer continues to have oil consumption issues for some owners. As for the Honda CR-V, they are still trying to solve the fuel-in-oil issue in their turbo 1.5. Too bad about that, otherwise it's a pretty good vehicle.

      @@jesperspedersen I stand corrected on the Subaru CVT. Nonetheless, I'm not a big fan of CVT's in non-hybrid vehicles, especially AWD's. I will say that the Toyota CVT is one of the better ones out there.

    • @dubbreak
      @dubbreak 6 лет назад +4

      @@itr0863 Crosstrek is definitely smaller. The Crosstrek might be comparable to the first or second gen in size. I have a 2010 RAV4 and it's way bigger than the Crosstrek. The new RAV4 is bigger than my gen.
      Forrester is the right comparison, but I suspect (haven't checked the numbers) the new RAV4 is bigger than the current gen Forrester. I've been looking at an Ascent to replace my RAV4, but if the adventure is big enough I might go with that. I'm really digging the new look. The previous gen looked like a Hyundai or something. Just wished they reintroduced the swing door with full-size spare (but proper swing direction for NA). Swing was better.

      @fukthegoog I'm not really sure they do "hate on Subaru" as so many of you guys claim. They are right in pointing out the failings of cars, Subaru or not. The biggest weakness with Subaru is the shitty tyres they recommend. No car is perfect, in our house we always have one Subaru and one bigger 4X4. Currently an Impreza and it is a cracking car to drive but there are issues with it. Biggest for us is the complete lack of engine breaking, just like every other Subaru we've owned. Living up in the hills of North Wales on twisty little roads in winter the Subaru is a tricky car going down untreated frozen steep roads but we still love it.

    Being a current 5th gen 4Runner owner I like the Adventure model for folks who don't want an old school real SUV but still wana hit some back roads every weekend.. but why the hell would they go for a 19" wheel lol? Not only is tire choice way more limited, it's less tire between your wheel and the rocks. Odd choice

      I was looking at the 2019 4Runner TRD Pro but it's decrepitude and dealer shenanigans (uplifting MRSP by $5k) burnt me on that. Plus it was too big for my garage. The Adventure is probably what I will get now. It has what I need. For the wheels though, I'll probably save the stock 19" for dedicated winter tires and get some decent off-road rubber for the summer. Wonder if 17" wheels will fit?

    • @goofyboyeric

Put the extra coolers and whatever else allows for 3500#towing on all non-hybrid trims (at least as a build option). I am currently on my 2nd Rav, its a 2018. They have been great! I really like the new look for 2019. Less of a delicate lady face on the grill. It's too bad that you have to jump to almost top of the range before you can get the Adventure package. Not everyone wants to spend an extra $7K to get a better looking grill and larger tires.

    Sure it can go off road. It can go on your lawn, it can certainly go in the ditch next to the paved road. It can go on gravel roads as long as they're not too rough. Oops, that's not technically "off-road", is it?
    I kid because I care. A Rav4 is NOT an SUV, obviously. An SUV has a full frame like a pickup truck. It has lots of ground clearance so you can go over rocks or deep snow. It has a transfer case with a low range, because if you actually go "off-road", you need to be able to plow through snow and crawl up hills and over rocks at very low speeds. A uni-body like the Rav4 would literally break in half if it spent much time off-road.
    So a Rav4 is a station wagon, or maybe a hatchback. It's a car, in other words.

    • @valdius85
      @valdius85 5 лет назад

      It really seems there are some ego issues working in the background... SUV = Sport Utility Vehicle. It is not an off-roader. It is for going camping in the mountains etc not rock crawling. It will take snowy roads and most forest roads well enough. With good tires it can do a lot for most people.

    • @alecpost
      @alecpost 5 лет назад +1

      You're not meant to take it off-roading... No one thinks this thing is the same as a 4Runner. It's a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), put some decent tires on it and it'll handle some pretty rough roads just fine. Rock crawling? No. Old, washed out, and neglected logging roads? Yes.

    • @valdius85
      @valdius85 5 лет назад

      @@alecpost A lot of people have purities issues. As you said, it will take a logging road in the forest with good tires put on. If lifted, and it is already high, it will be better if ground clearance is an issue.
      I assume most buyers know that and are happy with the capabilities. Unfortunately there will always be people trying to get attention by reminding everyone that RAV4 is not an off-road vehicle. It is boring at this point after so many years this types of vehicles are on the market. :)

    If your looking for a Rav4 the 2019 will help you get a great deal on one. We have been watching for peoples reactions to the 2019 rav4 redesign. The response has been GREAT. There are a ton of people in line to see it, drive it and buy it. If your looking for a great deal on a Rav4 this will help you. People are so excited and like the 2019 so much that the sales of 2018 models have slowed way down. So what happens is when the 2019 is being delivered to dealers there are still a lot of 2018's on the lot. The price on the 2018 will start getting cut before the 2019 arrives. You want them gone before the 2019 gets there but they will not be. If you have a ton of 2018 and 2019 models on your lot you really start to discount them to get rid of them. The more old models you have the more you have to discount them. We have 67 Rav4's on our lot right now. We have Rav4's sitting at close to $5,000.00 under the MSRP right now. Once the 2019 hits you can expect to find dealers who have a lot of Rav4's running some BIG markdowns on 2018 models. A Rav4 Limited Edition with an MSRP of $33,752 get to 6 and 7 thousand dollars under the MSRP rather quick. I know we will have some of those Limited models go from $33,752 down to $25,752 or lower. So, if a great deal on a Rav4 interests you then this is your year. If the deals get really crazy I will buy one myself. I'm a Tacoma and 4Runner guy but the Rav4's are fun to drive. I have 6 Toyota mid-size trucks and 3 4Runners so I guess I really like them. I enjoy restoring them.

    15:43 - 15:55 Not correct. This system is coded almost all ESP / ESC systems, even two wheel drive and has been around for over a decade; it's a cheap way to simulate a locking diff. If you drive off-road extensively the brakes will overheat with these types of system, but are useful for tractiion. The first statement he makes is correct, the system applies braking to the spinning wheel. It DOES NOT "distribute torque to the tyre that NEEDS grip" as he states. Why on earth would you send extra torque to a wheel that needs (i.e. does not have enough) grip? It directs the across axle torque to the wheel THAT HAS GRIP (i.e. the one that isn't spinning).
