    I prefer the Honda for the following...its bigger..approach and departure angles are better and I love the engine..i don't drive far to work or partying..and if I have to go to the mountains I like the 3.5 v6 better..

      true but it’s kinda more expensive. I would like to get at least a passport ex-l, but it’s a bit out of my budget compared to the RAV

      @U Betcha it depends what different people are looking for actually. They are also not in the same category so i wouldn’t say that the RAV is a joke. I’ve been in my uncle’s a several time and it’s a pretty good car

      Go with the Rav if commuting is 95% of what you do, go with the passport if you want to get on a little more harrowing trails that aren't obviously out of its league. I just like the fact I can get a Rav get 40 mpg and have the ability to handle rougher roads plus snow and ice.

    Just bought the RAV4 a month ago and its been amazing. Its seen snow, road trips, heavy rain, small water crossing, forest roads, and daily use. Its been great so far and has been getting 31mpg the whole time we have owned it. I did not opt for the Adventure and rather saved a lot by getting the XLE AWD with a few added packages. Once I found out the added lift on the Adventure comes from only the larger tires I thought I could just get my own wheel/tire package.

      Probably for the best. Working for a Toyota dealer in northeastern USA, the Adventure and TRD Off-Road models of the RAV4 are a rare breed. I've seen maybe one or two Adventure's come through in my two years working there. XLE with the AWD is still quite capable and much more affordable. Good for you.

    I haven't driven a Passport but I can speak from very recent experience about a Honda Pilot. Same system and such, once in an ice storm and another in 4 inches of snow with stock tires AWD and it was excellent. No issues or slippage and the "snow" mode did seem to make a difference on merging lanes with accumulation.

    • @WaspMedia3D
      @WaspMedia3D 2 года назад

      I've driven my 2003 Pilot through 8 inches of snow - no issues (with good tires), and I've "off-roaded" it through rock and mud trails like there's no tomorrow - the AWD system is really fricken good. Never been stuck. I would love to get a passport, put some skidplates and 2-3" lift with 30-32" tires and turn it into an overland machine - but that price ... $10,000 less and it would be a no brainer for many, but as is its hard to justify.

      Add a turbo to it, TRD , fox shocks, rear locker, a track, the off road cruise control thing. Bring back the 2 door and boom we have a mini FJ. Actually spice things up and add a 3.5l v6 and front lockers as well
      Scratch that add the 4.0 if possible and maybe add a diesel option as well

    @EastCoastATV 5 лет назад +12

    Great review Nathan, keep up the good work. I like the look of both vehicles, maybe the Toyota a bit more, but if it were my dollars being spent I wouldn't consider the RAV 4 because of the 4 cylinder engine. The older models had an option of a 3.5 V6 which was a beautiful engine, incredibly smooth and very fast. Even if Toyota had a turbo I still wouldn't buy one. Nothing compares to the torque and smoothness of a V6. I would look at the 4 cylinder if fuel economy was my driving factor I suppose. I'd love to see a comparison of the AWD systems with the two vehicles from this comparison with their snow tires. Take them out after a snow storm in deep snow and compare them and see what you like better and why.

I did not like Rav4 interior. I am average 5'10" but that silly tablet was little far for me to use it comparing to Forester's panel. I actually was planning on getting the 2019 RAV4 Adventure, until I build one on the Toyota website and fully loaded with some basic accessories priced it at over $40k! The Honda Passport (Touring AWD) is about $2.5k more expensive, but has a bigger engine, leather seats and more cargo room, so I am leaning towards one of those - AFTER the Greedy Helpful Honda Dealers start discounting off of MSRP...

Honda has way more cargo room, RAV 4 has a negligible amount more of ground clearance but worse angles then the Honda. I'm with you, i own a Forester now, but down the road if I need more room but not more rows, I think I'd pick up a Passport. Granted Toyota will still have the better dependability factor. Also Honda Passport doesn't allow you to choose their pilot 6 speed, but instead you are stuck with the Chrysler 9 speed. It seems though they have ironed out the issues with the 9 speed, or at least lets hope so.
