Love both Queen and Howard Blake's albums from "Flash Gordon" As much as listened it a hundred of times the Queen album I always was bummed about not gettting Blake's complete score. Luckily, one day I found it on a cd store and make me happier than ever. Its that cd behind him. Awesome stuff he did on just 3 weeks, incredible. The way both musics melted together in the movie perfectly is totally outstanding. I hope some day a 2 cd album would be released with every single track from the film (both Queen and Blake's) in proper order. Mr Blake is a very talented composer, I just listened this morning his score for a lil film called "An Elephant Called Slowly" and it was a total delight.
I still think the Flash soundtrack is generally overlooked because of the movie's comic book simplicity, I'd take it over all the other superhero movies for it's sheer propulsive joy.
That piece played on the piano, i remember it in the film....but played like that on the piano was sheer beautifully haunting. The change of key just hit the spot!!! wish that was available orchestrally
Terribly interesting. Loved his work on The Avengers. Sounds like the story of the producer of Space 1999 having her son do a score for an episode and booking a full orchestra to record it. He to showed up with nothing on paper to work from. Composer Barry Grey was also able to save the day. Many thx for posting!
