I’m not sure what you mean. If you’re referencing the latest trend for bigger and bigger tyres then that’s very location dependent. This is by far the best gravel bike I’ve ridden in all conditions locally in Ireland and when we were in Belgium and the Netherlands earlier this year it was the same. I never felt like I needed bigger tyres.
@@Wheelworxrob Yes, it is location dependent and it sounds perfect for you. Gravel courses are getting rockier and with the higher speeds a 50+ mm tire is certainly helpful. I also think Trek missed the mark in not offering a SRAM wide or mullet group in the P1 store. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful bike and as much as I would like to buy another Trek ( I have three already) I went with the ENVE MOG. Maybe next time. Enjoy your new Checkmate. ☮
@@roncelaya4115 Somwetimes it doesnt matter what size tire you have, you need a bit of luck. I rode unbound 2024 with 40mm, north course, very rocky at times, zero issues. tons of folks with wider tyres parked on the side on the roads with flats or unrepairable sidewall tears. Those ENVE Mogs are nice too.
depending on the course a trek super caliber modded w drop bars would be a better gravel race bike and it wouldnt weight much more, esp with everything else that is being carried
I agree, they should at the very least have the new premium Bontrager tyres. Or they could go with Pirelli like the new Madone is specced with, which would be in keeping with the team sponsorship
Trek have gravel bikes from €1,300 to €11,000. Everyone has different requirements and budgets. Trek cater pretty well for most people’s needs/price points.
Gravel bikes were made by manufacturers to sell more bikes, basically u use a roadbike for smooth roads any type of dirt ,gravel u use a mtn bike, stupidest thing is drop bars on these bikes, worst bar for control on any type of off road riding
That’s complete rubbish and a very weak argument. Of course manufactures want to sell more bikes 🙄 or do you think they should they aim to sell less? And it sounds like you’ve never ridden cyclocross or gravel or you wouldn’t have such a blinkered, small minded opinion
Such a beautiful bike, shame we lost your descriptions towards the end of the film
There is no sound in second part of video, could you reupload?
I will definitely visit this bike store when I travel to Ireland 😊
Excellent!! We love to see you 😊
Another beauty that i can never ever ever ever ever afford 🥺
👍
Great bike if introduced three years ago. Looks cool though.

Yes Trek says 45mm, but UBG guys were racing it with 50mm Maxis Rambler tires. At least in the US, the bike comes with the Trek Girona 38mm tires.
I’ve been riding 50’s and clearance looks good, however I think I’d switch to 45’s in muddy wet conditions
Rob, half of the video has no voice..anyways it's a nice machine.
I’m not sure what happened 🙈🤯
Does spacer comes that long at first, and you have to adjust it? Mine is like yours but I see people have shorter ones.
Yes they come with the fork uncut and spacers. You cut fork to size to suit you and refit spacers If needed
I thought max tire width for checkmate is 45mm.
Yes Ben Delaney's review definitely says 45mm max.
It is 45 for the Checkmate, 50 for the new Checkpoint. My mistake 🙈

Depends on what you want from a bike I guess
Bit surprised it doesn't use latest OCLV 900 carbon layup
I’m not sure what the reason is for that 🤷🏻♂️ but it is really light for a gravel bike given the size of the tyres, rim width etc.
For a bike that expensive they really should spec better tires.

No way Rob that dork disc has ur name all over it, 😂
😂
$12,000 for the spec??? nah~
🫡
Bike of this caliber and it comes with the shitty Bontrager GR1 tires !!
mounting a bike with flat tires??? Not very professional...Sorry!
👍
Thanks Trek, making a bike we can all afford. NOT

Impressively bad take!
