      It would make more sense for indirect fire, but remember this means you need physical ammunition, which means the thing needs something like a bustle autoloader system, which could be a hazard if it gets hit, though I suppose tibanna gas goes off about as hard as chemical explosives and propellants. If you don't want to add more stuff to the vehicle, your only option would be to have it be accompanied by a supply vehicle that carries all the ammo, and you'd also need a gun crew, and probably a crane on the vehicle itself to lift the shells into loading position. This would mean that for every AV-7 you airlift into the battle, you need to airlift a completely separate vehicle with all the ammo, which means you limit how many guns you can bring assuming you don't have an infinite supply of transports. Really the AV-7 is kind of ingenious in a way, because you only need the vehicle itself.

    Another great video for sure! Thanks again for the quality content!
    The Modern guns that remind me most fo the Star Wars 'AV-7' are the 2S22 Bohdana or the 2s7 Pion - in terms of looks, battlefield use / tactics and effects;
    They are self propelled artillery pieces, have higher than usual muzzle velocity (big guns!) and an exposed gunner position to the side of the barrel (though in practice this is only for resolving targets and aiming, firing is done away from the weapon with a cord (due to that overpressure! 🤯) -
    I'd even suggest that again in terms of looks, use and effects the 2s7 Pion and the 2S22 Bohdana are likely some of if not THE direct inspirations for the Star Wars AV-7 cannon. I also don't see the comparison to the PAC 36 or PAC 40 as you suggest, Search '2s7 Pion' and you can see yourself.
    Though I do concede that the way the AV-7 is used in Star Wars is more akin to the PAC 40; that it's often portrayed being used (incorrectly) in a direct fire role rather than indirect fire, which also seems strange to me also! But I guess we can think of ways to explain this 😅
    It's artillery, use it like artillery!
    I'm not poking holes, just wanted to add to the discussion 😊 thanks again Meta Nerds for a great breakdown - i also like the idea of it being artillery first and then a ship battery later, just as armies adapt with what they have in our galaxy.

    "Overpressure, set to chest-level". It's meant to take out crews, to pulp their organs. Shit.
    Kinda reminds me of the neutron artillery shells from C&C Generals. Disables vehicles by killing the crew with extreme-intensity, zero-halflife bursts of ionizing radiation, wiping the crews but leaving the machine intact, and the isotope only lingers for a few seconds before going inert, so it's not even irradiated afterward, safe to use in minutes. Utterly diabolical, but very clever.

    This gun seems strange to me because the barrel width is huge at the end, and it seems short ranged in the shows but not in episode 3, although I think your footage from 0:26 might be of the J-1 proton cannon like you show at 5:03. If it's medium range artillery, that's anything beyond mortar fire, which is max range of 2 miles IRL for a 60mm mortar shell, and long range would likely be anything beyond 20 miles, like how the M-777's max range is around 20 miles. For a capital space ship, it likely doesn't have the rate of fire or projectile speed to make sense at anything other than point blank, but within atmosphere I think it makes more sense, but the shows seem to show ranges at less than 5 miles, IMO. 6:10 I know that the credits cost figures are probably made up in about 5 minutes by some random writer, but apparently an M-777 system costs 2-4 million USD, so 14,000 credits seems CHEAP when a GPMG (M60? M240? MG-3?) equivalent is 2200.

    @nicholaswalsh4462 11 месяцев назад

    The AV-7 is an absolute beast of a howitzer. Canonically, it is over 15 meters long, with most of that being the barrel. This makes its barrel almost three times longer than the British 5.5" howitzer or the American 155mm Long Tom while filling the same role. The barrel length makes it effective range of around 45 to 50 kilometers.
    Now pointing out the AV-7's lack of armor and self-defense capabilities as a problem is rather pointless, since this is a howitzer and is supposed to a minimum of one-third of its effective range behind the lines (meaning about 15 kilometers). This would put it well beyond the range of direct fire weapons such as tank main guns and infantry small arms, as well as beyond the range of infantry mortars. Indeed, its manner of employment at Cristophsis and Geonosis simply reinforce my long held belief that the Jedi were universally poor battlefield commanders. They had tactical skill but lacked the necessary training to be anything more than company commanders.

      I think because of the nature of the SPHAs weapon it used up to much power for repulsorlifts to be viable.
      I mean a ground based artillery units weapon that is powerful enough to take out a ship as big as core ship is gonna eat power like crazy.
      As for the AV-7 I think that’s just for stability.

      @@phoenixx913 in my mind tracks are more stable then 4 legs sense its more even out thro the entire track system instead of 4 tiny legs but I know nothing about whatever science this is
