That's actually not true. Vocal fry is a natural register below chest. Unless you're squeezing it too tightly and not relaxing it's actually VERY helpful for your voice as a technical tool, stylistic (if you choose), and actually it's a GREAT rehabilitative tool. If you're overusing vocal fry then it'll obviously have an impact on your singing mechanics. I personally even use vocal fry in my warm ups because my natural tendency is to sing with much more weight than necessary. Vocal fry gets me used to getting connected without having to blow a ton of extra, unnecessary, and DANGEROUS air through my folds. Vocal fry is literally just the folds coming together and touching as lightly as possible. Vocal fry can also help you find and develop your flageolet register.

Exactly! This is my first time seeing this guy. I've been vocal coaching for over 15 years and vocal fry has been one of the most helpful tools I've used to work with singers. Last year I worked with a female opera singer who was locked into head voice and had very little chest voice range. I used vocal fry with her and helped her find a solid 50/50 mix that she could take from bottom to top with no strain whatsoever in my very first lesson with her. VOCAL FRY IS A GREAT TOOL! And it's really good for cool down after singing. Helps minimize the amount of swelling the next day.
