In this thrift flip, I DIY Urban Outfitters inspired clothing with $5-8 pieces from the thrift store and my trusty sewing machine. This thrift flip episode includes some of my best DIY’s yet: tailoring oversized vintage jeans into the perfect high waisted shorts, hemming a workwear skirt into a funky mini skirt, and cropping a men’s sweater into a trendy brandy/urban outfitters crop top.

My top three reccomendations for youtubers that sew: madebyaya, withwendy, and Annika Victoria. They make great clothes and tutorials plus, their channels are a goldmine for inspiration
ah i miss her thrift flips. the great thing i love about ashley's content is that she's not afraid to show her mistakes. i always feel like shit when i see youtubers "perfecting" their thrift flips on the first try, but really they just don't show the mistakes they made. it makes ashley all the more relatable and human.
Lol when my indian parents first heard of the distressed/torn jeans trend they thought that the ppl who wore it were so poor they couldnt even afford proper jeans 😅😂
Omgg I feel u. My grandparents still make fun of me when I wear distressed jeans. They always like "did you got chased by a dog" or "are you that poor, I can buy you clothes" ok comedian😒
I grew up poor, having torn or otherwise damaged clothes was a sign of poverty, being unable to afford new ones. So were the myriad patches sewn and glued onto my clothes, a lot of which were made by my mom from whatever cheap fabric she could scrounge in the sales bin of the nearby sewing supply store, or hand me downs from my parents taken in to fit me.
I've never understood people deliberately damaging stuff to make it look "distressed".
I didn't get many new clothes until I was 13-14 years old, and even then they were mostly from discount stores.

Its weird coming back to this video 3 years later. I remember watching this and thinking "wow shes like my cool older sister who can literally do anything". Its 2022 and im 20 years old. This video still gives me so much comfort but its strange looking at her at 20 and realizing how young she is here. Idk why it feels so different, i always knew we were close in age. Looking at Ashley now on her instagram she's still like my cool older sister. Watching this is like going back in time and living a memory again but with a different perspective. for anyone sewing with denim or thick fabrics, you can and should buy thicker sewing needles made for that exact purpose! they're a lot less likely to break on you. (vice versa for more delicate fabrics there are thinner needles)

Soetkin if you have a sewing center in your area you could pay to use a machine and the employees can help you. Fabric stores sometimes have sewing classes so you might be able to arrange a way to use their machines for a fee
In Europe, they are really really cheap on second hand apps such as Vinted. I managed to buy a brand new pair of Re/done x Levi's for 20 euros and a brand new pair of 501 skinny for 9 euros.

OKAY, i have found 1 pair of high waist light wash jeans that fit me pretty good! I am 13, so it is very hard to find what i want. i tried them on and they fit really really well except for the fact it is too tight around the waist area. so i refused to not get them and whenever i sit i just unbutton the pants lmao

it's the same reason pointillism looks like a fuzzy but semi-uniform color. the addition of other colors counteracts the vibrance of the brightest one (the blue, in this case) and makes it look like a toned-down muted version of a related color. it's like how a very thinly striped red and white shirt will look pink from a distance. your eyes basically can't perceive the precise colorful details, so your brain is like 'okay this is the basic idea but slightly to the left'
