Halo Infinite on Consoles: Xbox Series X/S vs Xbox One S/X - Can Xbox One Run It?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 дек 2021
- Every Xbox console tested with 343 Industries' long-awaited Halo sequel. Open world gameplay defines Infinite, on an engine that scales impressively to all consoles old and new. Xbox One gets the first billing in this analysis as we test original 2013 hardware - where a dynamic 1080p and 30fps cap are respectably held, if let down by uneven frame-pacing. How does Xbox One X, Series S and X augment this experience? Are frame-rates successfully locked at 60fps on more powerful consoles? And what of loading times? Tom runs through every version, every mode, to get you the answers in this breakdown.

Honestly the 60fps mode on the One X is impressive.
Couldn’t believe how much better the game felt on one x switching to performance
@@Newlegacy1517 same, it really should be the default mode. Quality feels broken tbh
Upgrade your One X with an SSD and your halfway to next gen...
@@nonnygb I did and it was so worth it. We have 2 One Xs, my personal one and a family room one: I put an SSD internally in my personal one and it’s amazing, the one without honestly feels broken in comparison
Not impressive when it's at 720p.
To be completely honest, I'm utterly impressed by the base Xbox One version. Overall looks very respectable, and certainly much better than most third party games recently released on the system.
is it on xCloud though? Streaming at 1080p60 on base xbox would be even more impressive
@Keelan Behave.
@Keelan do you have that set up?
@Keelan BF1 is not open world. Something like far cry would rather be accurate.
@@vandammage1747 Wouldn’t call that more impressive, streaming is far less demanding than the game running on Xbox One hardware, if anything it’s more of a benchmark for your internet lol
I was really impressed with my One X performance. You can feel the load times are long, but overall Performance is damn solid.
I use an SSD for my external storage on my One X. Have Halo and Forza 5 installed on there. Load times are drastically reduced.
I have an internal SSD in my One X and the game loaded the first time around 16.5 seconds. Reloading from dying was around 4-5 seconds. All similar to the Series S. In performance mode I forgot I wasn’t playing on my Series X. Very impressive IMO.
@@rockapartie the frame rate is solid but the frame pacing is just so bad, really hoping they patch it soon because without that it looks absolutely stellar. Atleast performance is essentially the same thing with more frame and reduced resolution
@@rockapartie it's a mess on series s and x too. The second I turned it on and starting playing I became dizzy. It was insanely disgusting to look at , all 17 frames of it 😂

Have the Series X in my Game room and the ONE X in my bedroom. So glad that it runs at 60fps, that console is still a beast to this day !
Big difference from online game play ?? And do other players online who have series X have advantage when shooting and all in terms or speed .?
Really impressed with base XBO. Well done guys. That is a hell of a feat
it REALLY is, especially when you compare this to something like Cyberpunk, or wtih GTAV back when it launched on 360 /Xbone back in its day. this is EIGHT YEAR OLD hardware (christ, am i really that old now? feels like yesterday)
@@_devolve Nah, cyberpunk isn’t the best comparison cuz that game is unoptimized as shit
I agree, but this is done at a cost of the XSX version looking like a remaster of a last-gen game and nowhere near a true next-gen game. The same issue is there with multiple cross-gen titles on both Xbox and PS. The issue carries over to PC as well, as you can't increase the graphics much beyond the XSX version.
@@dusanmihajlovic3587 yea. I really hope they ditch base Xbox One. But the problem is that most xbox players only have that. Its nearly impossible to get a next gen machine, except for Series S
@@_devolve Cyberpunk 2077 looks awesome on Xbox One S. No argument.
Reminder that Halo 4 was a technical and visual masterpiece on Xbox 360 at 720p30 while running at 1080p60 on base Xbox One
It’s a good point. I hear some say that Halo was never about the graphics - and not with disregard to the gameplay, but combat evolved (showcase for the OG Xbox), Halo 2 (best graphics of it’s generation), Halo 3 (unprecedented visuals outside of maybe crisis) and Halo 4 as you say would suggest a legacy very much in space of superb visuals
@@Archivist42 I'd say only Halo 1 and 4 had groundbreaking visuals for their time. Every other Halo was mostly perfunctory (never on the bad side. Halo 5 is also really high there, but no AF, draw distance, low shadow resolution and quite low dynamic resolution drags it down massively)
Halo 2 best visuals for Xbox generation? Not even close. For reference, OG Xbox runs: Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Chronicles of Riddick, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Far Cry Instincts, all which are vastly more impressive than Halo 2.

@Airmanareiks they are both using the same architecture which means you can more or less give an accurate prediction how well irl perform. It’s 3x slower flat
Compared to how Series X looks, I’d say they did a great job at scaling this game to last gen consoles, unlike CDPR as of recent
But it looks like a last gen game as a result. Forza did a much better job. Quality mode looks leagues ahead of Xbox One. This is not the case here.
Well it started development on last gen consoles so the series versions are ports
At least CDPR let us have an almost unlimited range to turn up the graphics, though, On PC this game here (Halo) looks awful, the lighting is laughable compared to 2077.
Exactly my thoughts. Much more positively surprised with these versions than the series X and PC.
Maybe cause Its originally meant to be a last gen game. Certainly looks like one
As someone with an internal SSD in my old Xbox One X, I may load it up and see what the loading times are compared to HDD for fun since I will be playing on Series X. In Forza, it cut a massive chunk off of loading times although it can’t touch Series consoles by any means.
Same here, SSD in my one X. I’m actually going to install it to all my systems, Series X, One X and One S just to compare loading times.
I added an enclosed M.2 NVME to my One S Gears of War Red console. It seemed almost as fast as Series S loading for games. I have since moved it to an external drive for my Series S. I haven't noticed a difference between internal SSD and external SSD loading speeds. M.2 NVMEs are amazing. I have the Intel version; didn't work with my older PC so bought an enclosure and use it as external Series S storage, 1TB.
I loved my Xbox One X Scorpio and yes, installing an internal SSD made a big difference to the stock drive, reducing load times significantly. Mind you, I really love my Series X, quick resume is fantastic, especially as I have one Series X in my office, I can sneakily switch it on a resume my game within about 10 seconds, making it much harder for my boss to catch me in the act.

@@rockapartie this is 100percent bad optimizing on 343 part. We all knew they didint exactly have a portfolio containing open world games but damn it really shows the lack of experience.
This is purely on 343. Forza Horizon 5 makes Halo Infinite on Series S seem laughable.
@@rockapartie series s has better ram cuz one x is ddr5 and series s is ddr6 it only has better graphics cars but since series s is 1080p and one x is 4k the series s should still have way better frames per second
It looks great for a $300 console, not sure what the deal is. No $300 PC could run it this well. People's perception of "next gen" comes from what the series x and ps5 can do, it's impossible for series S to match that.
@@nahi27 that's really not true the series s was targeted perform exactly the same as series x with only difference being in resolution of 4k to 1080p. Also take a look at the size of the game the entire campaign is only 18 gbs that's not a tough game to handle. Warzone is 80gb and can handle 120 fps and the graphics look better aswell
I think the 1080p30 on Series S is just for marketing reasons (favouring Series X). That machine could easily handle 1440p30 or even 2160p30 in my opinion.
For a next Gen console I expected 1440p 60fps in quality and 1080p 120fps performance. Especially for a game developed by 343 and microsoft
It will once they are not making games for Xbox one anyway. Then they can target all the features. However it is still only a 4 tflop machine at the end of the day.

As someone who is stuck on the Xbox One S I'm quite happy with how it looks and runs. Honestly it's very impressive compared to a lot of games we've been getting lately.
I'm happy to be playing the game on the One S too. I wasn't planning on getting it because I thought it would be a very downgraded version but I play on a 1440p monitor and it looks good. I'm satisfied. As long as I get to experience the story.
@@GeorgeNadaYT well you don't have to plan to get it with gamepass 😏
Don't forget if you have Gamepass Ultimate you can stream the game (on your Xbox One) which should be running on Series S hardware (so possibly up to 60 fps). What’s the frame rate on multiplayer on the Xbox one ?
@@michaelyates1514 30
Forgot to mention that I replaced the original controller (stuck on firmware 2.3) which came with the launch Xbox One with a used Xbox One X controller on latest firmware 5.11 and there is a definite improvement in input latency. Further, using wired headphones with Dolby Atmos enabled is another big plus.
Competitive multiplayer shooters beg for 60fps or better. The improved input response being the critical factor.
They got it working on original Xbox one. Remember when Cyberpunk 2077 came out and people were trying to defend it saying "Yeah it's selling on PS4 and Xbox One but it wasn't meant for last gen so don't get mad because it's broken"... Lol
Yeah and it was broken for all systems. They were just in denial.

It’s really devastating to me that Halo Infinite is not 120fps on series s. That’s the reason why I bought series s to play 120 but I can’t play it on Halo, Xbox’s flagship title, yes I can play 120 on fortnite for example but I play Xbox for Halo man 😭 really gutted.
Yes the triple crown! I was stoked to hear Tom pop on for this video.
Thank you very much for this video; it was extremely detailed and helpful. As someone who has never owned an XBox before (I only ever played the original Halo on my cousins’ console back in the day) I was really in the dark about what, if any, advantage there would be in paying $500 for a next-Gen console when the game is also available on older, cheaper hardware. Given that I don’t have a TV capable of displaying in 4K anyway, I think the XBox One X makes a lot more sense for me. It’s much more affordable and still looks great.
I think it's a better deal than a Series S. I recommend at least an external SSD connected to it. I have an internal one in mine
I'm glad that the Quality mode on Series X runs at 60 fps. I hate having to make the trade-off between 60 fps or best visuals in other games. Here I get just the best and that's it. Love that.

Probably not the One X, it runs well enough that I don't think the Series X upgrade is worth streaming for, but depending on how low latency it ends up feeling that seems like a very viable option for the 2013 model.
I'm really surprised that Series S is only running at 1080p in quality mode, when it can hit 60FPS at 1080P with DRS and only minor settings reductions - seems like they were trying for 60 quality and 120 performance but couldn't make it work well enough so used this as a fall back? There's a weird flickering and fps issue going on with Series X when playing in quality - mode (system set to 120hz, VRR on). When exiting Halo, starting another game, and switching back via quick resume, the issue is gone. Hope they're already aware of this and a fix is underway..
Yoooooo I came here looking for this. My quality mode on series x is terrible. Also set to 120hz and VRR but it doesn't feel like 60fps at all. I had to go down to performance mode and oddly that feels just like 60fps and not 120fps. Quick resume hasn't solved this for me yet, I hope it's fixed soon.
@@Timeforceletsgo Try turning off VRR! I've played some games where 60 fps doesn't feel right, and turning off VRR seemed to help.
Let me know if it helps! Still trying to figure it out myself 😊
@@Brisingr73 I tried this earlier, and I even bumped down to 60hz. It's weird, the quality mode feels very choppy, and cannot be hitting 60fps consistently at all. The performance mode however is pretty smooth but as I said earlier, it doesn't feel like it's targeted at 120hz. Just something feels off, and I hope it's fixed soon. For now I can play it and performance and take the image quality hit, having too much fun to stop.
@@Timeforceletsgo Damn that sucks. I haven't played the campaign yet but I hope they fix the issue soon!
The series S needs major work
All versions beside the Series S one look great. They should work on that post launch and optimize it at least a bit more.
Tom sounding like he's got the Rona? ;-)
Good stuff, the scalability of the game is definitely impressive although it is a little bit surprising to me how hard it is for the game to hold a 120fps framerate on both the Series X and PC. CPU usage doesn't seem to be that high on PC, yet from benchmarks I've seen the performance difference between a 3060ti, 3070, and 3080 is pretty small which almost implies it IS CPU bound.
Perhaps the game was just never designed with >60fps in mind, which I suppose would make sense since it started out as a Xbox One only game. Hope that in future updates the 120fps mode on Xbox Series X stabilizes more and the PC version is able to hit that framerate with relative ease as well.
I do find it a little bit baffling how a game that runs generally at 30fps 1080p on the Xbox One can't hit an average above 100fps on the lowest settings at 1080p on my PC (GTX 1080 and i7 8700k)
Poor optimisation on 343s part
Yeah it’s the CPU optimization, on GeForce I have the performance stats up and during open world the CPU goes much high and then results in jittering . I have a 3070 ….. and I’m hitting 50 fps on ultra 1440 in outdoor environments , indoor roughly 90
Uh could you say that in normal people language nerd
@@TheNaturalGamer1 game run good on old but meh on new
@@kameronrogers4000 that makes no sense
Optimization by 343 across all platforms is commendable. Very happy with how this game looks and performs(Especially on the SX).
doesn't seem optimized on series s. it lost features from beta and has same cpu as x.
@@terrydavid86 It's the GPU that's holding it back. A more modern feature set compensates somewhat, but can't reach the desired resolution/frame rate targets that the One X does. It should be a bit closer though, which does make the Series S version seem a bit unoptimised.
Hope your cold gets better, tom
I am really annoyed. I took the option to pre install the game. It looked like it had downloaded. I have been unwell and only just got to try the campaign tonight. So I sat down to play it, only to discover the pre install had only downloaded multiplayer and the campaign has to be installed from the main menu. Really annoying. Now I have to wait for the game to download. What was the point in the pre install option?
Something is seriously wrong with the S version. At almost 3x the GPU power of the base Xbox, it's odd they are at the same resolution. I would have expected dynamic 1440p 30 and 1080p 60 without dynamic rez.. oh well. Another patch i guess
I’m guessing the series s/x versions will be getting much more attention post launch. Whatever they’re like today should be considerably better in a couple of months.
I think that if it ran at the same settings as the One then they could have had the same 60/120 quality/performance mode that the X has.
Same. The fact it doesn’t run at locked 1080p60fps is weird. Find it hard to believe it’s not capable of that
Looking at that Frametime graph I feel like I'm watching a video on a FromSoftware game. I really hope they can clean that up in a patch bc that is a YIKES from me
Great video and thank you for all the hard work Tom!
Happy Infinite Day Spartans and go stomp the Banished!
What is the music playing in the background at 9:22?
I got a Series X this week. When I go to Halo Infinite in my library it does not give me "Compatibility Options" yet for other games, like Castlevania Collection it does (FPS Boost can of course not be turned on). Also in the menu of the game itself I'm only given "Quality" setting. It's grayed out so I can't even switch to or see "Performance" setting. Any help?
I don't know... as a longtime fan of the series where they always pulled a lot graphically, I'm a little disappointed, especially with the Series S I'm playing, I feel a weird blur on the screen every time and the 30fps mode is very stuttering
Would love to know how much the FOV slider affects performance and image quality (if at all)?
@@rockapartie Thank you. I wonder if these tests were done with default FOV, or if they went to max of Series X (It looks a bit like it's on 120 FOV)
@@rockapartie on mcc on pc steam version it runs better the higher fov weird ass hell
@@anthonyconstanti9173 yeah they should keep it att 90-105 were pros keep it
Will you do a Xbox Cloud Streaming comparison as well?
Not sure if it's a bug but when I look straight down in multiplayer and/or single player Master Chief's lower body/legs are completely missing so it looks like his body is floating and when you move his footprints magically appear on the ground. In your video, it shows his lower body/legs when you look down. I'm playing on a series X
I was hoping for alittle more from The Series S for this release.. 😔
It's not the consoles fault imo its 343 they have not really focussed on the Series S too much. Other first party games have had higher resolutions and framerate. Halo should have been the same.
Great video! I'm running my SX on a LG C1 65inch tv utilizing VRR, and on both quality & performance, the game feels very choppy. Any idea why? It doesn't feel like it's running at 60fps what so ever, or even locked 60fps
Try turning off VRR to see if it helps :]
If you buy the game physically do you get like some stuff for the MP or a better progression or is it only the singleplayer.
a redo of this video would be a godsend given how halo infinites last content update drastically hurt performance on pc, be interested to know how much the consoles where affected
I still love my One X man. Seriously. Great to see it getting the support it deserves and not left behind
I loved my one x until I got the series X. Now I can't stand the fps and loading times on it. It was definitely my favorite last gen console though.
Better than the Series S here
@@scissortongue5772 try on the Stalker 2. Halo is bad optimized
@@wg8561 For those of us though still to land a Series X I'm happy. I got a Series S, but all the games I played were better on the One X, I gave the S to my son. X is different gravy though, I'm very aware but for now I'm very happy with the support the One X is still getting.
@@BACK2PORT Series s plays most games at 60fps though, one x is only 30.
What the hell are people smoking in these comments saying the Xbox One version is acceptable when Sony can push 30fps open world games like Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon that look and run way better on base PS4 than Halo Infinite on the XOne. This is a poor showing for the biggest AAA game for Xbox. Also the load times on Series consoles is still waaay too slow, when you compare the open world loading of something like Spider Man or Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 that reaches sub 2 seconds load times, i don't know, people are being way too forgiving imo.
@Transistor Jump Yeah i know, but even compared to other open world 3rd party games like FC4 or FC5, RDR2, Metro Exodus or even Rage 2 it does not look that good.
What i noticed when starting up the campaign on a series X was that the first cut scenes graphics resolution was very low when you actually start playing the quality goes noticably up.
Great to see the One X still kicking ass!
Wait, so if you have a Series S.... What's better, native, or cloud? Cloud uses a Series X version, but at 1080P60. So wouldn't that be the best way to play on the S?
Well series S runs at 1080p 60 natively, so no. Yes it is dynamic 1080p on Series S, but the compression that is inherent in streaming will be worse than any momentary dips below 1080p noticeable on XSS. Plus you have lag, occasional connection issues etc on streaming too.
Appreciating the dedication to Infinite content guys - loving the Xbox Love
QUESTION: on XBox One X, if you run in performance mode and 1440p video output (since that is the max rez anyway in this mode), does VRR become active?
What is the real graphic difference between the S series quality / performance mode if both are 1080p?
Xbox one can run it, but the frame rate is crap. I wish it favored frame rates more than details.
I feel like series s 30fps should run at 1200p-1600p
@BigBoss It was originally running at that same resolution(locked 1080p) but at 60fps, then at 1080p with DRS at 120fps, i don't know why they changed it.
@BigBoss They might have done this bc of the future RT update.
@BigBoss no it's not. There are many games that achieve above 1440p including mass effect, ori, the tourist, AC Valhalla, and many others
@BigBoss Well, it will improve the lighting(global illumination) and shadows(RT shadows), two of the biggest aspects where Infinite falls short, visually.
I use an Xbox Series X on a 1080p screen, and I noticed that in the console settings it's possible to limit the resolution to 1080p. DF, would you look at this setting and see if it provides any benefit?
It doesn't, you just get Super Sampling from Dynamic 4K
3:11
Was that a nod to Frogger?
It should be targeting 1440P 60, and dynamic 1080p 120 on the series S. The console is more than capable at sub4k with the right optimization, devs just don't want to put in the extra effort. I'm afraid MS will kill this console, but they've probably already made their money back plus some with everyone mindlessly buying their super overpriced proprietary expansion drives.
@Airmanareiks Elaborate? It makes perfect sense, the series s is and has been advertised for 1440p up to 120fps since release.
@@Jack-yt1fu He is just triggered
@@Jack-yt1fu The series s is selling too well for microsoft to kill the console
I didn't mean literally, I mean kill the entire concept of the console. It's looking like the Series s days of next gen 1440p up to 120 are over, now it's just a small pretty looking Xbox one.
