Bob...If you find a Card Shop to re-send your Mario, Joe Greene and Ripken cards through, they will come back with a Grade. PSA is always more lenient with Grading when thay are Grading for shops.
@@bobbylew81 Also, keep a very close eye on what you send and what you get back. I've sent cards to PSA and got back cards that were low grades and had issues the cards I originally sent in didn't have. I started using BGS because of this.
I have experienced this too...where i see a card come back and i know there's no way I would have sent that in like that...so I take pictures of stuff now before sending it in
With peels it's an eye of the beholder kinda thing for me...I personally leave stuff unpeeled while storing but if i grade, then I peel. Even though it's worth less, I personally like the way it displays better.
Altered could mean anything from trimmed to colored in somewhere. Unfortunately there is no way to know exactly what the issue is. Perhaps you can look them over closer out of the Card Savers later on and let us know if you see anything. Sometimes PSA is better able to pick up things in a dark room with a loupe.
Sent in a card and asked for 10 minimum....they did not reveal what the grade is yet but they did issue a certification number. The last card that I sent in did not get a certification number and it was sent back as ungraded. Is the cert# a good indication that it will get a 10?
As I understand it, a cert numbered is issued to any card that is graded and has nothing to do with the assigned grade. Thanks for checking out the video!
Altered can mean many different things. one thing it sometimes is, were they stored in screw down holders? These press down the corners unnaturally resulting in the altered designation.
Thanks for the comment! I can understand how that would "alter" the card. I guess I'm ok with it since I didn't mark any kind of qualifier. I'm just happy that it doesn't necessarily mean it's a fake.
Saw you in the Live Stream tonight. I too got a 1958 Mantle card for Christmas one year, it's his All Star card.. I also got a 58 Mays for Christmas that year. They have always been really special and I would never part with them
Just found your channel and I liked & subbed. Nice vintage cards with only a little shine. Prefer them this way for sure. I heard so many people calling Roberto Clemente cards by your name. I finally asked Mike (Baseball Collector) what the Beast & Bob Lewis ref's were. If I ever make a video, you'll get your recognition for any & all Pirates cards. Nice to finally meet you. Looking forward to going through your older videos while waiting for the newer ones. Thanks for sharing.
Hey guys... Eric, Those Back Pages, starting saying my name anytime he showed a Pirate card but it said it in the way I started saying it overtime... slow, and with a pause between my first and last name. It just kinda happened, and I have no idea why hahaha! Thanks for watching!
A lot of times with PSA when they see a card is altered is because it was in a screw down case at one time and the edges are now flattened and do not measure the correct thickness. If you have any vintage cards in screw down cases take them out put them in a penny sleeve and a top loader and throw the cases away. They are the worst thing for vintage cards people over tighten them and it ruins the cards
Hey thanks Michael! I was definitely someone who used those cases back in the day but it's been a while since then...such a bummer to think that a lot of us used cases like that thinking we were protecting the cards when in fact we were doing the opposite. I appreciate you watching the video my man!!
You know that just might be what the problem is...I definitely used those growing up. Oh well, I'm still happy to have the cards in my collection!! Thanks for watching man!
Apparently it can mean a number of different things like maybe they touched up a corner to make it look better or I've heard with vintage sometimes people would put shellac on the cards to give them a little extra shine etc
To my understanding it means someone might have trimmed an edge or touched up there coloring in places... Basically, something was done to the card at some point that altered its original state. Thanks for watching!!
@@jsloan_tv3124 currently PSA is performing grading services because of COVID19 but there are different levels of service with different price of cards and they all have different return times. PSA's website lays it all out better than I can in this comment haha!

I'm heading to my 1st NSCC in a few weeks, so I'm going to bring some more slab cans with me and roll the dice again lol. Thanks for sharing and can't wait for the next.
Cool returns bob you did well on the grades and your eye is pretty good you were right there with your evaluation. Good job. What does it mean that they wouldn’t grade the cards because they were altered??
I have a question I invested in a 2001 albert pujols rc and I believe it’s a 9 but I put it as 4 because I want it slabbed should I have raised the guessing number?
PSA will grade it no matter what grade you put it as...when you say you gave it a 4, are you referring to when they ask you for a minimum grade? Because that just means you wouldn't want them to grade it if they thought it would get less than a 4.
I like the Jim Brown, Kobe, and Jordan. The Jordan and Kobe went up in value big time this year and seem to be holding steady. That Jim Brown rookie has yet to peak, in my opinion. Along with all of his other cards and autograph cards.
Thanks! Yeah wish I still had some of those Jordans and Kobes but oh well haha! I just looked at the eBay sales of the Jim Brown and I think you're definitely right on that!!
Great submission, Bob! Tough luck on the altered cards, but congrats on the 10 for the Dirk and the collector grades on a good number of the others. Great rant on PSA qualifiers as well, I completely agree, the grade should be what the grade is.
Rockiavelli thanks Rocco! Yeah the qualifier thing baffles me... what if there were qualifiers in the MLB...imagine if a baseball player went 2 for 4 with two strikeouts but was like "I went 2 for 2 if you don't count those strikeouts" NO! you went 2 for 4 and that's it... I don't know, seems strange, just my opinion.
Thanks Gary! I sent them out on June 1st and it took 15 days for them to log the order...from there my 30 day return clock started and the mailed them back on the 16th of July. So they were pretty true to their word
Wow! That's an awesome pull congrats! I would probably guess around $150? A PSA 10 Brooks Robinson recently sold for $129 so im thinking Clemente should fetch a little more

Was that your 1st submission back from PSA? I found this on "Altered" = The term altered may mean that the card shows evidence of one or more of the following: trimming, recoloring, restoration, and/or cleaning. You went 7 for 12 so that was pretty good self grading...lol Loved the Dirk / Piazza / Mantle / Brown / Henderson / Kobe !! I agree on the coating, it kills the colors from popping out and full look of the card. Awesome story on the Mantle....forget the grading...the sentimental value alone is a 10. I'd probably be one of those kids envying you....ha!ha!ha! Enjoy them sir !!
Congrats on your first submission. Some iconic cards you got slabbed, awesome 10 on the Dirk. He is definitely coming back next year. I think he wants to break Kobe's record for years on one team.
Sucks that those all came back altered. I think altered means somebody tampered with the card. Most time is coloring in my marker or trimming edges. It’s hard to tell. The rest of the submission was great. Congrats on some great cards Bob!!
Awesome submission! All of the cards look beautiful in the new holders! So cool ...congrats! Loved the 58 Clemente and Mantle :) My favorite baseball set of all time!
Thanks for the shout out brother haha! It is great to see some Packers in your sub :) I think your Jim Brown is phenomenal and I would love to own that card someday. A typical PSA sub.
