- You don't need to be good at bowling if you're good at engineering.
I made a bowling ball with James Bruton where it will steer left and right depending on how you lean. People lean anyways when the bowl to try and influence the direction so we just capitalized on that. It operates on the same principles of a BB8 ball.

As someone who works at a bowling alley and is about to start bowling on league, I’m not entirely sure how I’d react if someone came to my work with this sort of equipment.
There’s probably nothing in the rule book about it…yet.

surely there are ball weight requirements for bowling?
it would be difficult to match the weight of a real bowling ball with do much empty space inside I think...
at the very least, it would be obvious by just picking it up hopefully

As someone who bowls straight only, I'd say 3:30 also depends on factors of velocity and angle. I've gotten strikes relying on that method at various styled lanes. I would be positioned at the edge sometimes, but I'd make sure it's angled enough to have the power make up for the rest of the speed needed. Granted it's not consistent, but I have gotten 4 strikes in a row, so I'd say it's a fine method.

Or just move over to where the sweet spot is then bowl straight from there that’s the best way for beginners
the "not consistent" part here is key. you were getting a bit lucky with things like messenger pins or pins just flailing around after being hit so hard. You aren't going to control them but they often times can breakdance in the lane or other things to knock down the pins that approach tends to fail to knock down.

Hey holy cow, I just noticed the bowling footage in this video is from my local bowling center. Hijinx and the PBA Jonesboro Open. I live in Jonesboro Arkansas.
1:19 when I was in Kindergarten I broke my arm severely and I would get to play with toys like this at my rehabilitation visits with the doctors. Some of my favorites were the toys that could flip over and over again!

Quick idea:
Compass + “gravity compass” = 3D not just up and down gyroscope
“Gravity compass” design is just a vertical line, top is light, bottom is heavy, showing which way is up.
This allows the bowling ball to be used properly without complex enjineering!

Cool idea! Now..... assemble it into a glove so that you can use your hand/arm to guide the ball. This will require a bit more strategy and it will look better than having it taped to your back and moving your body around. Just a thought...I love your project!!! Cool channel!

Hi! I was just curious about how you got your internal structure to keep its orientation inside the ball despite the ball rotating.
