The reconquest of sicily was proposed by the pope to the normans and the end result was the enslavement of both arabs and native white converts to be sold to north africa to rechristianize the region. On top of this, as a result of the economic prosperity that ensued in years after, a large migration from the italian mainland took place (mind you the mainland was never colonized by islamic powers). The combination of all of this really wiped out any "cultural" aspects from the islamic world that ever would've taken root. This is also why siculo-arabic can only be found to be spoken in malta today as well - it no longer exists in sicily. There may be a few arabic loanwords that stuck around, but that doesn't mean you're descended from arabs, even if your name really was from the arabic language. Surnames came into common use only long after the conflict was concluded. The english word "orange" comes from arabic as well, but you wouldn't go around assuming someone with the last name "orange" is of arabic stock.
