Dear Erik, As the years go by, your tales of the trips to Greenland via Shetland, Faroe and Iceland are becoming a saga … with each episode I come here and watch with sustained pleasure, Fair winds and currents, Emmanuel
At 12 years old, my friend and I set out from Randaberg in a 12 foot 9.9 hp dingy to Håstein without telling our parents. The weather started getting bad before we got there and our landing was exciting to say the least. We didn't dare go back until things calmed down. To this day I still haven't told my parents about that day, but your videos have been part of reawakening my need for adventure at 46 years old. Du e ein sta jævel fra ein te en aen. 👍
I would be great to see you film the towns you visit too, the streets, the restaurants, the foods etc, so one can get an understanding of the places you visit. Thanks for your uploads and your bravery sailing those waters. I cannot imagine being in an open long boat navigating those currents. The Vikings are the absolute definition of courage,
Eric, thanks for these great and candid videos of your expeditions in the North Atlantic. A bit of a harsh environment for me (more a Mediterranean sailor), but I really learn a lot from you
I'm really envious that you saw the sights that we enjoyed so much on land on Shetland from the sea. There is so much Viking heritage to be explored and enjoyed by anyone thinking of visiting the Shetland Islands.
When sailing dead downwind with enough wind, like you did starting from the Shetlands, I put on full Genoa and no mainsail. Thus there is no masking between sails, and no danger from sudden jibe from the main and its skull-breaking boom... I find it efficient and confortable. Keep the images coming, cheers !
Thanks, Erik. I'm a 3rd generation Scandinavian and I want so badly to sail, but will settle for watching you. I really appreciate your videos and you getting into the history both culturally and geologically as well how currents, tides and depth affect your sailing
Hey Erik, just wanted to let you know how much I love your content. It's been fun following you and seeing your progression as a sailor. And you've served as a big inspiration for me to get out on the water ... with no BS, just sailing 😂!
Simply wonderful! Great shooting as usual! Even when I learn a lot from your boat's setup, let me give you 2 advices: For the leaks in the mainsheet track , use Butyl, it will never fail, when I saw your installation I already felt that had chances to leak. And one more thing, your swivel needs a shackle and 3 links of the chain between the anchor and the swivel in order to avoid lateral force to the swivel when anchored, that can make your swivel fail. If you check the KONG swivel instructions they strongly advise it. Change it asap! 👍
Hey Erik, i’ll comment more on your video later, but wanted to make a recommendation for flying your headsail wing on wing. There is a pole for getting the genoa or jib out away from the boat called a whisker pole. I have one on my boat and it’s easy to fly and does a great job of keeping the headsail out away from the boat when you’re going dead down wind. Even in very light air, the pole will stiffen the sail so it doesn’t flogg when there’s no pressure in the sail. If you don’t have a spinnaker pole track on the front of your mast, you’ll need to install one so that you can clip the mast end of the pole to a ring that adjusts up and down the Spinnaker pole track. Here’s a short video that shows you the basic principles if you don’t know already. There are other videos out there that might give you some idea of what you’ll need, like a topping lift among other things. Because I single hand where the wind can be light at times, my whisker pole is a must have item. ruclips.net/video/czoi63XfWTQ/видео.html
Our real modern day Viking, onward we go… no bullshit. Your video quality is amazing and so is your single handed seamanship. I think you like the cold allot but would love to see you sail in warmer waters😅. Travel safely and continue to entertain us!
Thank you for taking us to these remote places and capturing the wild nature with your incredible drone shots. always enjoy your videos. cheers and greetings from the north sea island sylt. :)
Top notch shots and great storytelling, as always! I agree with the comment that a whisker pole would improve downwind performance, however it is one more piece of equipment to handle on the foredeck, so it is a bit of a toss-up on the benefit/cost equation. Wishing you fair winds and good health, 😎
You won't give up till u get there... toughness and endurance combined with outstanding footage and like always a perfect story!!! All the best for you reaching your goal! Sail save and fair winds, Erwin
Klaksvik - already at 62.2N (Anchorage, Alaska would be at 61.2N and Reykjavik at 64.1, the Arctic Circle at 66.5N). People in Northern America generally have no clue how far to the North "Europe" still lives. Vancouver is about at Paris latitude and Seattle and Quebec City are a tiny bit more North than Milan. In the Southern Hemisphere, 62.2S gets you in Antarctica, about at Marsh Airport - outside the Antarctic Circle (66.56S)
@@sanfranciscobay - call it Freshco - it's not very warm. In Europe, that latitude and being bordered by the big open (Atlantic) ocean to the West, gets you about in Lisbon, Portugal. There, January is the coolest month with average min/max in F at 46.4/59 and warmest month in summer with min/max in F gives 66.2/82.4. Jan would have 9 days of rain, July 0, and August 1.
I once sailed around Start Point in the Uk on a spring tide in bad weather and experienced horrendous overfalls due to the strong current. Just did not expect it to be as bad as it was. So feel your pain there Erik
Praying to the Gods you make it (or already made it) safe and sound and you reach your goal! I think maybe by now you would have already made it, but I will wait to see as you release the videos, I don't want to spoil the adventure. Inspiring... I want to learn how to sail, and I have a goal to take some lessons and learn, and maybe one day, who knows... (I am in NY, USA, a couple hrs north of NYC... so I have to travel to take lessons a little bit, and do it at the right time of year, and I am always working, so to set aside the time I must be very intentional, and have yet to do it) Best Regards, great videos!
On down wind, why not try and scissor the furling gen and innerstay sail, and take down the main totally, spred them out tight with spinnacker pole and the main boom. Your videoes are amazing, mate.
Yesss mate I have been waiting for this video. I’m at work still at the moment (run a little shop in the North of the Scottish Highlands). As soon as I close later I’m watching this with a Cuppa Tea. Cant wait mate 👏🏼
5,979th tag-along view will set sail with Erik... 3:11 - I've been there to see THAT. Had to post the LIKE at 10:20 - "Much better than Netflix." Indeed, Skipper - no comparison! :0) 14:56 - 'stuck' on the Faroe Island/s sound like a good thing; 'drink it all in while you can'. 20:28 - what a sight to behold! WOW!

Shetland is packed with Viking history all over the islands❤️😍
For the rest of us (non vikings) its the only way we can see it and still... live 😅

Can you do it with a symmetrical spinnaker (pole or no pole)?
Absolutely

Most epic sailing video I've seen so far. God bless your route to Greenland.
Yesss! More Erik. Thanks for uploading, and I hope the wait is not too long for Chapter 3. Good luck on your voyage :)
It wont be that long, couple of weeks until next!
Please don’t make us wait too long for the next episode! Your channel is outstanding- I love it!

I have two poles, but its a mess to set up. Done it a couple of times🤯🌊
@@erikaanderaa yes, so just put full Genoa and no main. Easy and comfy.

Thanks Rafael!
From 🇦🇺, love your channel, you really capture what it’s like aboard a small monohull on passage. Great filming and editing.
Thanks for the vid.
I can't stand straight downwind anymore and found jibing on broadreaches gets me there much more comfortably and usually as quick.
Fair Winds Erik on your passage to Greenland 🇬🇱 🇳🇴.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Wow! Your videos never disappoint, Erik. Cant wait to see what happens next!
The Wikingship was built in Stockholm and sailed to Shetland year 2000. I was on the ship.
I did not know that, thanks!
