What do you expect to happen when the Word of God is read in church? Do you treat the reading of Scripture in a way that is conducive to these effects? In today's video interview, Christine Parton Burkette of Duke Divinity School shares how the public reading of Scripture will never be the same once we come to terms with its central role in the worship service.

Amen. And each sermon should be full of Scripture quotes. I try to never go more than a few minutes without citing a verse.

This just happened today... January 26, 2021... my 14 year old daughter and I took a Bible to the grocery store and we took turns reading starting at Psalm 90 just outside the doors of the store. We got a few nasty looks and we also got a few thumbs up, "good job," "God Bless you," "Keep it up," and one older man stopped to ask us what Book we were reading from and said GREAT! We were out there maybe 20 or 30 minutes before the manager came out and shut us down. He apologized but said they had several customer complaints. Shocked, "I said really? We are just reading THE WORD OF GOD." He empathized and said he thinks what we were doing is great and he appreciates the prayers over Forsyth, Missouri and the store.. but.. I told him that we would stop but that I couldn't believe it because in little old Bloomington, CA where I grew up... liberal as heck... a man would read the Bible EVERY.SINGLE.DAY in front of Stater Bros. grocery store and nobody ever asked him to stop or to leave. I explained he did this DAILY for AT LEAST 10, maybe 15 years. The manager shrugged and apologized again. I said, "I know it isn't your fault, its just we are IN the BIBLE BELT here and I'm being shut down yet in liberal CA it was ok for YEARS." He said he understood and it was crazy times we live in.
Anyways, these customers that complained... why can't they just walk past me and mind their own business? Do you see!? Do you hear!? PERSECUTION IS HERE and the voice of TRUTH (Jesus who is the WORD... in the beginning was the Word and the Word WAS GOD)... the voice of TRUTH is being silenced everywhere. I'm going to look up the law here and see if they had the right to silence/muzzle me. Maybe next time I try it I will tell them to call the police to settle it. Ugh! I am so sad at the current situation of our world.
