    Congrats makho, the Slate is the most premium Gameboy I own. With that said, I ran into two issues that I hope will be helpful to somebody.
    The back half of my Slate came from a clear black, IPS ready SP shell from Retro Game Repair Shop. When I went to tighten the screw at the cartridge port, the plastic bowed on both sides of it, starting to cause distress marks. It turns out it was the metal cartridge shield. I hade to pull one from an OEM SP, then everything snapped tight and fit.
    My Slate only came with one plastic shield for the back of screen. I recommend putting capton tape over the left trigger leads you trim down, and over the small pcb the screen plugs into. Every time I closed the system up. The screen wouldn’t power on. I thought I killed my kit, but now it works fine.

    I should clarify, the rear stickers are included, yes, but are not mentioned on the item page because they will not be restocked once out. Once the pre-order batch is sold out, no more stickers. The Slate itself (and kits) will be restocked indefinitely. With the kit itself, the insulation film may or may not be included. If it's included, you may use it. If it's not included, it is not required.

Also got an aftermarket green shell, and although the shade of green is different, it’s still better the the beat donor gray shell. I also installed a USB C mod, which works and fits perfectly. I probably should have gotten the USB C mod with audio, but didn’t realize it was an option until I already ordered and received the just charging mod. I love this design, especially using the OEM back housing. It kind of reminds me of the Gameboy Micro a bit. I'd definitely love to grab one some time. 👍
    Also it'd be cool if the Laminated screen said "GameBoy Slate" or something.
    I recently made one of those GameBoy Micro link cable adapters, and now I can use it to play Four Swords. But I kinda wanna get 4 different types of GBA systems to use. I might have to grab one of these and design an adapter to make the GameCube link cable work. Or perhaps rehouse an aftermarket one in a revised shell?

      I have an aftermarket cable that is just a gamecube to gba cable without the added grip parts that get in the way, if you’d be interested and can’t find one online for yourself. Haven’t tested it but I’d be willing to, and also it doubles as a link cable

    • @makho
      @makho  2 года назад

      It just works with any link cable I've tried. It's only the ones with the clips that don't fit. A short link cable dongle extension would be all you need to make an OEM GCN cable fit.

      I actually like that it says Gameboy Advance. The fit and finish is so incredible, it feels like an official Nintendo product, only they would never release something this premium. Using membrane-less metal buttons is fine, you probably want to avoid the power cleaner and amp, the powercleaners don't do anything except for prevent your sp from booting in certain cases, and the AMP will amplify noise, making audio even worse, the best thing you can do is open and clean the power switch.

    I’ve built my Slate tonight and I love it! I do have one question: I’m using the metal buttons and while the Start and Select are firm, the other three feel pretty loose and rattle quite a bit. Is this normal, or did I mess up assembly somehow? If it’s normal, is it possible to use/mod pads for plastic buttons to make the metal ones not rattle?

      @@makho I understand metal on metal will make a bit of noise, I’m more concerned with how much the A/B/DPad move around relative to the originals and relative to the metal start/select (which are quite stable despite also being metal on metal).

    • @makho
      @makho  2 года назад

      @@sargunv If the fit is not to your satisfaction, make sure things are seated properly. I've already seen a few cases where people did not screw in the motherboard properly and either the screws are not threaded properly (and thus not screwed down) or the motherboard holes were cut slightly too small and the screws were threading into the motherboard and lifting it from the buttons. In both cases, the solution is simply to run the screws backwards until the threads click into place and then tighten normally.
      If you're sure it's not a fitment issue and you are still dissatisfied, reach out to RGRS.
